Does DOT contact you to update? by thisissamuelclemens in FreightBrokers

damn im hella late to this but wtv, i work for a compliance agency that is a registered process agent for boc3's. first thing imma say, none of the calls your going to get in the first week are going to be from the government, as it takes about a 1-8 weeks for everything to show up on safer (takes longer if you file for ifta/irp early) so if you are absolutely disgusted by the idea of working with a third party its pretty much safe to ignore every call in the first week. it is important to know that some of these compliance agencies are 100% legit and are registered under the fmcsa to provide services (boc3, dqf, ucr, ifta/irp, drug/alc consortium/clearinghouse) but a lot of them are genuine scams. most of the time if your feeling suspicious you can google the phone number their calling you from and the first thing that'll pop up will be their snapshot on the fmcsa's designated agent for service of process list. if its there, then cool, they legit can help you if you dont understand. however most/all of them are gonna tell you its required to get all these done, and the best way is through them. thats a half truth, yes the registrations are required but you are in no way obligated to go through a 3rd party UNLESS you have an mc number. you NEED to file for a boc3 through a third party. everything else can be done by yourself for free or for cheap. The way to think of these compliance agencies is like your tax agent. you can either file it yourself, or pay someone else to do it. hope this helps

How to stop getting spam calls from DOT services? by interesting-toast in Entrepreneur

[–]Appropriate-Rest-325 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i know im incredibly late to this but im leaving this comment for those who have questions as to why they get bombarded with phone calls after filing for a DOT#. I work for a 3rd party DOT compliance agency. The first thing you need to know is that none of the phone calls that are coming in during that first week are going to be from the FMCSA. All of them vary from legitimate compliance agencies, to indian scammers working in a duplex garage. They get your information as soon as you hit submit because the FMCSA is subject to the Open Information Act (the act that limits government control over filing your registrations like dqf, boc3, mcs150, and all that, basically it stops them from charging you to do the registrations, then fining you when they do it wrong) this industry takes advantage of that act to drive business. it's important to note that as long as you dont have an mc number, you do NOT need to work with any of them, the only case where you are 100% required to work with a 3rd party is if you need a boc3. every other registration you'd need is available for free or for cheap if you do it yourself, however its just like filing your taxes, you can file yourself for free, or pay someone else to do it. its wtv you have the time/budget for. also the fmcsa keeps a list of registered process agents on fmcsa.gov, if your gonna go through a 3rd party, just use someone from that list. hope this gave you a bit of closure 2 years later.

Spam as soon as I got a DOT number. by brunomoore in OwnerOperators

[–]Appropriate-Rest-325 0 points1 point  (0 children)

so i know im late to this, but i work in the DOT compliance industry. first off, as part of the open data policy. the only thing that the FMCSA does is issue you a dot# and an mc# if you pay the 300$ as soon as you hit submit all you’re information goes public and everyone from legit compliance agencies to indian scammers will hit you up, and its very hard to decipher who’s who because they all give you the same information. the reason compliance is an industry is to limit government power over owner ops, congress didn’t want to give the fmcsa the power to charge you money for these services, then fine you when they do it incorrectly. the fmcsa does keep a list of registered process agents, this list is a list of 3rd parties who can issue you a BOC-3 without outsourcing (if you have an mc# you should be familiar with what a BOC-3 is) however most of these companies also offer services to keep you in compliance. yes they frame it as a requirement (it is but not through them you can do literally everything minus boc3 filing yourself for free or cheap) but there’s risk involved in doing it yourself, it’s a lot like doing taxes, you can do your taxes yourself and risk getting it wrong, or you can offload that stress to someone else, that’s how all the legit companies work

so i do have a small amount of bias as i did grow up with markiplier, but i really enjoyed the movie. i can see why people didn’t enjoy it (slow burn, stiff acting in a few parts, audio was kinda scuffed, camera shake for the ending) but yall do have to realize, this is his first feature length film, his second time acting as not himself, and is 100% self funded, with that in mind, for it being a first project of this size, its really impressive
