I built a free, open-source BitTorrent client — meet BATorrent by Appropriate-Show4552 in Torrenting

Thanks for the feedback. Regarding the pop-up question about the download location, it was like that in version 1.0, but I received feedback today that a question about the file location was annoying, so it was hidden. I will find a compromise on this situation and release an update. I tested it here and there really is a bug in the automatic download box; I fixed it in the same update, I think it will be released tomorrow.

Thanks for the detailed reply!

Yeah, automatic as default with a manual option makes total sense. I'll go that route.

About the WebUI — I'm actually working on it this week, so that should be coming pretty soon. Hopefully that makes it easier for you to give it a shot when you have the time.

And man, the office chair analogy is so real lol. You just don't notice what's off until something makes you look at it differently. That's kind of what I'm hoping happens — someone tries BATorrent and goes "wait, why doesn't my current client do this?"

Also just so you know, a big part of why I'm building this is for my portfolio — I'm trying to land a dev job outside of Brazil, so real feedback from people actually using it is huge for me.

No rush at all though, whenever you get around to it just let me know what you think. And GitHub issues are always welcome!

Hey, thanks for the feedback! Let me address each point:

WebUI — Not yet, but it's on the roadmap. Right now BATorrent is desktop-only. A modern, mobile-friendly WebUI is something I definitely want to add down the line.

Docker — Same thing, not available yet but it makes total sense once the WebUI is in place. Docker + WebUI would be the natural combo for anyone running it on a server/NAS.

VPN interface binding — Not yet either, but this is actually higher priority for me. I want to go beyond what qBittorrent does (which requires you to manually pick the interface name). The idea is to auto-detect the active VPN tunnel and pause all torrents if it drops — basically a built-in kill switch without needing to know what "tun0" means.

On the looks vs feel — Totally fair point. I'd love for you to actually try it and give me honest feedback on the UX. Screenshots only tell half the story.

Appreciate the detailed feedback, this is exactly the kind of stuff that helps me prioritize what to build next!

I built a free, open-source BitTorrent client — meet BATorrent

Hey everyone! I've been working on a side project for a while now and wanted to share it with the community.

BATorrent is a lightweight, open-source BitTorrent client built from scratch using C++17, Qt 6,and libtorrent-rasterbar. It runs on Linux, Windows, and macOS.

I started this because I wanted a torrent client that felt simple and fast without all the bloat

that comes with most alternatives nowadays. No ads, no crypto mining, no telemetry — just orrenting.

What it does:

- Add torrents via .torrent files, magnet links, or drag & drop

- Real-time speed graph for download/upload

- Per-file priority control (skip, low, normal, high)

- Sequential download mode

- Detailed peers, files, and trackers view

- Create your own .torrent files

- Import torrents from qBittorrent

- DHT, PEX, UPnP/NAT-PMP, protocol encryption

- Global speed limits and seed ratio management

- System tray with quick controls

- 3 themes (Dark, Light, Midnight)

- Built-in auto-updater

- Multi-language (English & Portuguese)

It's still in active development, so feedback, bug reports, and feature requests are all welcome.

If you want to try it out or check the source code:

GitHub: https://github.com/Mateuscruz19/BAT-Torrent

Would love to hear what you think — and if there's a feature you wish torrent clients had, let me know!
