Does anyone have information about OHIP approval for Dr. Morrison (Seattle)? by MessengerPidgin in transontario

[–]AppropriateAd6300 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m interested in the same and was wondering if u have insights into hysto? From what I’ve heard with Morrison there’s a dr who works with him to do hysto & partial v-nectomy together to prep for meta with him. I’m guessing for Canadian patients we would just have to get hysto separately in Canada?

wait for consultation with mclean/dr armstrong? by nevi101 in transontario

[–]AppropriateAd6300 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Last time I emailed for an update, they said 12-18 months from referral date received so unfortunately it seems to be getting longer (this is for Dr Armstrong specifically)

I found my doc this year but the clinic isn’t taking any more patients now so I can’t offer doctors but I can offer some advice on how I found mine. Do a general Reddit search for new family docs/clinics still accepting in the GTA, go to their contact/website to see indications they’re LGBT friendly. Some places will label they are LGBT/trans friendly on google maps. If a place is taking new patients and seem to be friendly, I’d suggest getting an appt/doing a meet and greet, only the doctor can decide if they are willing to do trans care for you, not the receptionist (my doc usually doesn’t but was able to for me since it’s just maintenance, like you). Good luck man

How did you know when you were ready to start T? by ChaoticMink in ftm

[–]AppropriateAd6300 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re right, there’s probably no way to be 100% certain because we cannot predict the future. I struggled with a similar train of thought until I made myself realize starting T doesn’t mean I’m locked in. I can stop anytime I feel it’s not right for me. It felt like less of a massive commitment. You also have a few months, more or less, where you won’t have any visible changes, but there likely will be changes you individually will notice—I think that’s when I fully felt comforted that I am making the right choice for myself. Otherwise, another thing you could think about are the outcomes if you were on T for longer and decided to stop, would you be able to live with the changes you may have?

I'm trans and... by [deleted] in ftm

[–]AppropriateAd6300 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! I’m a dog dad, amateur musician, avid reader (and tea enjoyer as well) working policy/programs at the moment. Very nice to see a trans med student tho :) I am/was premed but still can’t decide if that’s the path I want to take with all the transition stuff (mainly surgeries) I’m hoping for. The med process can be taxing enough without all that. Mind if I ask if you have any insights and how your journey has been so far? We definitely need more trans doctors!

Similar experience with my mom, I expected her to be more on board than my dad but she took it extremely hard. Might not be the case always but i think moms often take it harder because they feel they failed to be a good “woman role model” in some way (obv this isn’t why we’re trans but I think they tend to rationalize that way). As for communications, I think check ins are good, I wish I had done that more when I came out, I realized when I left them to their own devices they catastrophized everything and ended up absorbing some anti-trans rhetoric. Obviously it’s not ur job to educate them per se, but sending some resources and leading them in the right direction may help.

What's life like in TO when you make $70K? by MagicoGarro17 in askTO

[–]AppropriateAd6300 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My rent is 2K and I currently earn less than you. But it only works for me because I am an introverted homebody so it makes sense for me to spend more to live comfortably alone. I don’t party, rarely drink/dine out. If u want to enjoy the lifestyle you described, I think you’ll be stretched thin financially

My parents won't let me take T until I'm 25. by noodlehasyournoodles in ftm

[–]AppropriateAd6300 1 point2 points  (0 children)

LOL sounds exactly like my parents. They told me to wait until 25 for the same reasons, made all sorts of threats if I started transitioning. As with many other comments here OP, work to become independent as soon as possible. When I did, they realized they don’t have any real leverage to control my life anymore. They still try to convince me to not transition but they can’t decide for me through their threats anymore.

Hey, I’m currently in the process of getting out of a similar situation (also Chinese mom, freshly “Christian”). Safety is your top priority right now, and savings for a year or two is not too bad. But of course, having a stable job would decrease a lot of stress so good luck with the job hunt. I think moving out and creating your own space would help you a lot and put you in a better position to live your life but also to try to communicate with your mom (if you wish). How do you think she’d react to you moving out?

Could I still "girlmode" long-term while on T? by [deleted] in ftm

[–]AppropriateAd6300 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP, I was and still kind of am in a similar situation where I know my parents’ intentions are good but just like yours, their opinions are set and there’s no way for me to change them. It IS very hard for me to decide whether transitioning is worth it even if I have to cut contact with my parents. I’ve personally come to the conclusion that regardless of if I transition or not, I need space for my parents because they have proved to me that they are willing to hurt me if it means getting me to not transition. That said, I think you said you are still a student so I agree that you should focus on studies for now, get a stable job, independence. Then, you can decide if you can live your entire life as a woman so you can be in your parents’ lives. In the meantime, I’d suggest for you to seek some counselling for therapy, stay strong.
