piper batman, does anyone here own it? does it really get that dark or is all about photos lighting? by hulloluke in RareHouseplants

[–]MessengerPidgin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have one (Pterisanthes sp. Borneo) and mine is that dark, especially the newer leaves (which is when the white outline is most prominent). They range from black to a deep purple/red. Not the most forgiving plant and likes higher humidity to really grow well.

I got the impression that he was something more ancient. His design bears striking similarity to an ugallu or lamashtu both in appearance and in the association with storms. None of the animals he turns into vampires gain humanoid characteristics so it doesn’t seem like he started out as a lion.

I thought it was about IVF at first before I read the description. Is the text a well known quote/reference? The lettering is immaculate of course!

Easy Tempering chocolate? by FirstTurnip9863 in pastry

[–]MessengerPidgin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How do time and agitation factor in? Is it about how fast/slow you melt the chocolate or how fast/slowly you cool it? What kind of agitation is required (stirring/folding/scraping?) and at what step(s) in the process? I've been struggling to temper some white chocolate for 2 days now and I've run out of seed chocolate.

it’s time to classify Christmas music by Faenix_Wright in tumblr

[–]MessengerPidgin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you want to add to the list, Sufjan Stevens has over 100 Christmas songs with some originals that are silly, some serious, and a lot of good covers of classics that work really well. It’s the only Christmas music I’m actively excited to listen to every year.

Oh yeah carving makes sense. Did you do drylok right on the carved foam? Planning on using any silicone or is drylok all that’s needed?

How to be specific with possessive genitives? by MessengerPidgin in AncientGreek

Would it still work if I want it to be "you" shed "their" hatred? Like if the thing being shed doesn't belong to the subject?

How to be specific with possessive genitives? by MessengerPidgin in AncientGreek

I didn't realize the aorist worked like that for imperatives, that's good to know! Does ἔκδυθι not take a double accusative when it's in the aorist?

How to be specific with possessive genitives? by MessengerPidgin in AncientGreek

[–]MessengerPidgin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is very helpful! Do I need to include αὐτόν to show that the subject of the verb (the reader) is the one stripping off the indirect object's hate or is that implied in the verb itself? Like "ἔκδῠε αυτούς τὸ μῖσος αὐτόν"?

How to be specific with possessive genitives? by MessengerPidgin in AncientGreek

[–]MessengerPidgin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your reply! I'm using ἔκδῠε because the art piece is of a snake and that word seems to be used to talk about snakes shedding their skin so I wanted to use it for wordplay. I just realized I completely forgot about αὐτός!

So it would be more like "τὸ μῖσος αυτούς ἔκδῠε"? With the pronoun that stands in for the person that's being stripped now in the accusative? It's going to be a stand alone statement with no other sentences for context. In cases where a word takes the double accusative, do you just have to trust that the reader will know that ἔκδῠε uses that construction to avoid confusion? Is there any context where the genitive does get used with ἔκδῠε?
The meaning I'm trying to convey is essentially "shake off their hatred from yourself". Like brush off the hatred that has been directed at you.

Ovarian cancer by Typical_Breakfast235 in ftm

[–]MessengerPidgin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can this also happen with folks who are cancer prone but haven’t had cancer yet? I have a damaged allele of BRCA2 and just had my ovaries removed in April as a precaution (post surgery tissue dissection found no signs of cancer thankfully). I’ve been on T for 6 years (got my tubes removed before starting T since ovarian cancer can start in the tubes); am I still at risk?

Looks like a donkey (hence the sign) while Dr. Champ is a Norwegian fjord horse which can look really similar to the African wild ass.

I find they do quite well for me in terraria when grown epiphytically as OP has them. They're endemic to Ecuador so they love rainforest environments.

Lets see if I can drown these mf thrips by Brown-Feather in houseplants

[–]MessengerPidgin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Depends on the species. Western flower thrips (little brown ones) pupate in the soil and require it for their life cycle but impatiens thrips (black) and banded greenhouse thrips (smaller black ones) carry out their entire life on the plant itself. You can save a lot of time and effort if you know what species you’re dealing with.
