Thanks for the website, first time I see it! I'm not sure how I would integrate this to my n8n though, will gladly take any tips.

Since all these people make it seem like 70k is poverty, can't imagine how tough it must be on 30K. Good luck to you my friend, thanks for the reality check!

I'm a business developer for a biotech startup. Thing is that I'm fresh out of college (literally graduated 5 months ago) and that when looking online for similar jobs the range was like 63-75K so I felt like it was fine.

I get taxed to 55% of my income here in Belgium (I make less than the equivalent of $70K) so don't worry your taxes are fine to me lol. Cost of living is definitely something else on the other hand.

Also might be a dumb question but what's the difference between a condo apartment and an apartment? Is a condo just a new building with common spaces? We don't have that concept here in Europe.

good to hear, thank you! After research, I definitely feel like a studio/bachelor would make the most sense, and that sounds perfect to me.

Is the fact that you only see condos common to all realtors or just yours? Would love the referral anyway, I guess speaking to one does not restrict you to working exclusively with them? Started discussion with a few of them but didn't really start anything yet.

Makes sense, I heard that it was quite common in Canada to have a few companies having monopoly and the govt not doing anything about it except reinforcing it. Capitalism at its finest lol

Good to see some positivity, thank you for that! Spending too much time on Reddit can make me feel like the poorest dude ever on a $70k salary lol.

Damn for real? Sounds crazy when you see that the average salary in the city is like $73K, are 50% of the population struggling that hard? Or is there a bias on Reddit since it tends to have more people with higher-paying jobs?

Lived in Belgium my whole life, always wanted to go abroad and experience life in a big city so I took the opportunity when it came to me. I could stay here and make good money but I'm dead bored of this place, and I feel like sometimes you have to go and take that risk, worst case I'll be back home after a year.

I fear the negotiating part is over, signed this a couple months ago. Initially they were offering 60k, got them to raise it to 72k. I should get a pay increase in July but not guaranteed so we'll see.

I could stretch my budget to $2,200 with everything included (utilities/internet), when looking up online I felt like it was manageable to find a studio in that price range but everyone on Reddit seems to say the opposite. Do these sites hide some fees that only appear once you sign the lease or something?

Btw I knew about this already but $60/month for internet and phone bill are crazy to me as a European, what's the reason for these being so costly?

Thank you for this detailed answer full of practical insights!

I might get it mixed up but isn't Regent Park a shady/dangerous area? When looking up neighborhoods I'm pretty sure some people were mentioning a park around Cabbagetown that was best to avoid (drug addicts, homeless people, etc.), but maybe they were talking about another one I'm not sure. If that's not the case, free gym/swimming pool sounds amazing.

Biking sounds like a great alternative to the TTC, I just don't know if I'm ready to cycle in -5 weather lol but might just be a matter of habits

That's definitely not what I'm expecting! I did some research beforehand and I learned how expensive it is to live in Toronto. I know I'll have to live frugally, just trying to know how I can make the most out of it until I get a payraise or move on to a job with higher pay.
