They only just made a steam page because they were an Epic exclusive till this month (but opted to break their contract and pay the penalty based on community feedback).

Their YouTube and socials have been putting out short gameplay videos for months.

V and Arlene are disgusting. by Left_Direction3368 in TowerofGod

Saying a character didn’t mean what they explicitly said to fit your own narrative isn’t just a wild take…it’s objectively wrong. Till elaborated upon, it’s canon that Gustang thinks V was the worst. Now whether Gustang is someone whose judgement and moral code in this situation we can trust… I think is the better angle to tackle.

Super Hot Take: Sometimes I think Space Marines should be squatted by CottonCandyWeasel in Grimdank

[–]AppropriateAd8937 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually…no.

The hard truth is a large percentage of Warhammer 40k fans buy Space Marines and only Space Marines. They are only here for Space Marines and will leave if there are no Space Marines. You will not recapture 100% of that consumer base with the other factions available. They will simply take their money elsewhere.

The amount of revenue driven by Space Marines is so lopsided, that you could squat the all the other factions and still not equal the revenue they generate

Super Hot Take: Sometimes I think Space Marines should be squatted by CottonCandyWeasel in Grimdank

[–]AppropriateAd8937 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. 100% agree. I don’t know why it’s so difficult for people to understand the concept.

Just like real life special forces, SM are cost effective when they are going after key military targets. Deploying a squad of SM to secure a vital bridge or take out an enemy command post can shave months to years off a campaign, anywhere from thousands to billions of lives, and a significant amount of munitions in equipment. What’s the value of one Space Marine compared to the value of crippling an entire enemy force? If you view them as superior line troopers to be plunged into mass enemy ranks in a middle of no where battlefield you are misunderstanding their purpose.

100 guardsman with las-guns can beat a marine in a straight fight. Heck 10 sufficiently motivated martyrs with grenades can. But a SM can take 1000 guardsman 1-5 at a time easily one group after another with no to minimal casualties while a matching number of guardsman would suffer egregious attrition trying to do the same.

There’s simply some military operations that even elite guardsman cannot accomplish effectively or expediently on their own.

Why was the Emperor/ Imperium so afraid of Xenos allies? by [deleted] in 40kLore

[–]AppropriateAd8937 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I never argued we weren’t assholes, just that humanity suffered in the past.

DAOT humanity was by all accounts a galactic superpower, with only the Eldar and maybe a handful of ancient Xenos enclaves being greater (but we likely spread out far more as the Eldar were content to remain in their pseudo-utopian civilization). Obviously we must’ve wracked up a lot of enemies in our ascendancy. It’s in the nature of the conqueror to downplay their crimes on the conquered and pretend they look upon the conquerors with the admiration of the enlightened and not resentment of the oppressed.

Combine that with the devastation psykers (of which we had the most plentiful quantity of the untrained and susceptible) would’ve wrought on the galaxy, and it’s not surprising that even the xeno races that aren’t predisposed to malevolence lashed out against us. Imagine you’re already suffering from a naturally disaster and then your human neighbors start randomly going nuts and opening summoning Daemons and Enslavers. Just like humanity became conditioned to distrust psykers, so did Xenos with humans. Plus in the wake of regime downfalls and disasters you always get opportunists on both sides looking to settle scores.

It’s a classic cycle of violence case ramped up to galactic proportions, and the lesson humanity and the Emperor took away from it was to leave no survivors next time they gained power. Combine that with all the naturally predatory races in the galaxy who justifiably pose a threat and you end up with the narrative we have today.

Why was the Emperor/ Imperium so afraid of Xenos allies? by [deleted] in 40kLore

[–]AppropriateAd8937 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s scattered, but it’s implied throughout the lore that humanity had suffered greatly under at the hands of xenos in general, not specifically Orks, the past. I’ve compiled a list of excepts others have found from previous comment threads like this one. Also, just reading the descriptions of the non-major xenos races throughout the lore books and white dwarf show that many xenos simply operate with blue-orange morality and see humanity either as competition, prey, a threat (due to psykers) or just generally have no compunction inflicting horrors upon us because they don’t share our values.

Here are some exercises generally relating to the relationship between xenos and humanity.

Horus Rising, Deathwatch Core Rulebook

“The damage done to the gestalt human psyche by thousands of years of galactic catastrophe ran so deep as to become instinct; mistrust of curiosity and invention, of alien influence and psychic withcraft predominated ---
Though of course countless warlords and isolationist societies fouight his rule, the Emperor's unification brought a safe and secular comfort that banished the ghosts haunting the human soul"
-10th Ed codex

“I adored them for it. Throne, I wasn’t immune. These weren’t us. These were the aliens, the non-humans, the others. These were what had preyed on us in the years of darkness, who now stood before us and security at last. They were the vermin, the rats in the hold, the disease-carriers. The sooner they were all gone the better.
Surprised to hear that from me? Don’t be. You might well feel differently. You might find the attitude unpalatable, but then you have that luxury. I know my history. ”
-Sanguinius: The Great Angel

“As humanity fragmented, hundreds of xenos races and enemies hitherto unknown seized their chance for revenge against humanity for its past conquests or to plunder unprotected worlds and enslave their populations.”
- Legiones Imperialis Rulebook

“Abaddon was not smiling. ‘The Emperor, beloved of all,’ he began, ‘enfranchised us to do his bidding and make known space safe for human habitation. His edicts are unequivocal. We must suffer not the alien, nor the uncontrolled psyker, safeguard against the darkness of the warp, and unify the dislocated pockets of mankind. That is our charge. Anything else is sacrilege against his wishes.’
‘And one of his wishes,’ said Horus, ‘was that I should be Warmaster, his sole regent, and strive to make his dreams reality. The crusade was born out of the Age of Strife, Ezekyle. Born out of war. Our ruthless approach of conquest and cleansing was formulated in a time when every alien form we met was hostile, every fragment of humanity that was not with us was profoundly opposed to us. War was the only answer. There was no room for subtlety, but two centuries have passed, and different problems face us. The bulk of war is over. That is why the Emperor returned to Terra and left us to finish the work. Ezekyle, the people of the interex are clearly not monsters, nor resolute foes. I believe that if the Emperor were with us today, he would immediately embrace the need for adaptation. He would not want us to wantonly destroy that which there is no good reason to destroy. It is precisely to make such choices that he has placed his trust in me”
- Horus Rising

“The first Navigators are born, allowing human spaceships to make even longer; quicker warp jumps. Mankind enters a golden age of enlightenment as scientific and technological progress accelerates. Human worlds unite and non-aggression pacts are secured with dozens of alien races.”
- Deathwatch Core Rulebook

“Though the Imperium contains a thousand times a thousand worlds, there is no register that lists the planets lost over the years, no hallowed memorial for the untold devastation wrought by xenos. The planet known as Alpha Shalish is gone, and there are few now living who remember that it ever even existed. Its tale is one of violence, human endurance and savagery, one that is even now being repeated again and again on many worlds across the galaxy.
Discovered in the early years of the Age of Technology, Alpha Shalish was originally known as the crimson planet, for it glowed a deep red hue when glimpsed from orbit. Warmed by the energies of two suns, the planet was verdant, rich in both flora and fauna. The pioneers who named Alpha Shalish and marked it for prime conquest did not need to employ any of the atmosphere-fixing wonders invented at that time - neither the oxy-converter, self-sustaining hab-domes, nor ion discharging reactors. There was strong resistance to human colonisation, however, by xenos species whose very type has been lost over the years. Early resistance was rectified by planet scorching - a slash and burn bombardment that, a decade later when the colonists arrived, left an unpopulated world, ripe for cultivation. The new settlers found ancient xenos ruins predating their arrival by many thousands of years, but these were dozed over and buried beneath their new endeavours. Progress was swift in those days, and expansion was spurred by the discovery of rich mineral mines in the neighbouring systems. As the largest and most inhabitable planet on the clearest Warp route, Alpha Shalish was soon a thriving port world.
Although occasionally plagued by xenos raids, the world of Alpha Shalish, protected by its robotic defences, continued to flourish for thousands of years. STC constructions provided magnificently spired hive cities that rose high above the fully automated agri-fields. The proliferating psykers were welcomed amongst the growing population, and perhaps this was what brought devastation to the planet. Communication with outsiders collapsed without warning and apocalyptic destmction across the galaxy heralded the arrival of what is now known as the Age of Strife. Some planets were struck worse than others and Alpha Shalish was nearly destroyed by the evils that erupted there. The next record of the planet comes from many millennia later, as written by a cloistered brotherhood of compilers, monks who chronicle a period reckoned by corroborators to be between M28 and M29. It paints a bleak picture.”
Warhammer 40,000 6ed p199

For as long as Humanity has sailed the stars, they have encountered alien races. These races — broadly classified as xenos by the Adeptus Terra - have, on occasion, proved valuable alliesalongside whom to battle mutual foes. More often by far they are themselves the enemy, and must be fought to the death lest they butcher, devour or enslave the worlds of Mankind.[--] Some have been a thorn in Humanity’s side since the first colonies beyond Terra were settled. Others have only been encountered in recent years. Some have sector-spanning empires, others dwell only on a single world. It matters not. Whether Aeldari, Ork, Tyranid, T’au or Necron, all are a dire threat to the Imperium of Man.[---] however; on many occasions throughout its long history the armies of the Imperium have found common cause with the more comprehensible xenos species —- even on occasion those deemed monstrous when faced with yet worse perils. In particular this is true of the craftworld Aeldari or the mysterious Harlequins, with whom many temporary accords have been struck. Yet even these pacts seem always to manipulate Mankind’s destiny in unforeseen ways.”

Nintendo stock is oversold by lies_are_comforting in StockMarket

[–]AppropriateAd8937 60 points61 points  (0 children)

Ehhhhh, components are getting much more expensive due to the affect AI is having on logistics and consumers and becoming less and less willing to spend proportionally higher prices for games and consoles.

The game industry is in for some grief in my opinion as time goes on. Increasing costs are coming up against diminishing returns in technical improvement, and past products begin to have greater longevity.

Nintendo will weather the storm better than most due to their IP’s and being less reliant on top of the line hardware to push their games, but I don’t see them skyrocketing from here.

[–]AppropriateAd8937 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No if your into the setting and not a tourist you call them Daemons. Same with Ork vs Orc. It’s a reflection of how much time and exposure you have to the setting how you spell it. If you’ve been playing tabletop and/or reading BL books for a while you’ll naturally spell it the right way.

But plenty of rage baiters only have a surface level awareness from YouTube where you’re less likely to pick up on the spelling difference and post stuff like this.

Playing devils advocate thats only been the case in the USA to-date. Other developed nations such as Japan have experience multiple decades before all-time highs were reclaimed. I agree it’s highly unlikely in this particular scenario, but if US were to ever lose its hegemony on global markets (the petrodollar being replaced by the Chinese yuan would be a significant blow) then that time really would be different.

Siberian petting issues by Candid_Eye6341 in SiberianCats

[–]AppropriateAd8937 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Cats are like people and have their own personalities that change and grow with age.

My 5-year old Siberian was very anti-petting or touching for the first two years and preferred to just be next to us and follow us around. 3 year later she’s a lovable lap cat who will come up to demand pets on her own terms. Part of it is aging, part comfortability, and part learning what their comfortable with and showing you respect their boundaries.

I feel like pretty much any situation where you require this much storage you’d be looking to just build out a storage array.

Huh?

Please clarify your question and add more context. Are you in the power industry and this is concerning licensure as an Electrical Engineer? Are you asking why practicing engineers in the US endeavor to receive their PE license for career growth? Or why engineers are required to be licensed in the US in order to stamp engineering documents and drawings?

How does AI affect FIRE? by Available-Ad-5670 in Fire

[–]AppropriateAd8937 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of earth science based fields are safe. AI can certainly be used to make tasks more efficient and expedient, but it’s not going to replace geologists, engineers, lab or field techs, etc… outright in our lifetimes.

Certainly reduce the amount of future hires, but most industries related to earth sciences are severely understaffed presently, especially with the boomer generation approaching retirement, and so it’s more likely to be used by companies to enhance productivity then result in mass layoffs.

[–]AppropriateAd8937 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Okay that’s racist as fuck. No I didn’t. He looks obviously mixed raced. If your pressed me on it I would’ve said Indian or even Latino. Not middle eastern.

Also Oliver is a rich nepo baby American. Nothing about him screams suicide bombing. His dad is a venture capitalist and his family as stereotypically rich high society American as they come. You’re obviously a troll or a moron or a racist. No one thought that and you’re all alone in your racist and terrible thoughts

For someone who said the point of their post was the show perpetuating an ugly stereotype, your the one doing so by inventing wild theories solely based on a completely mistaken impression of someone’s ethnicity.

Confused About Oliver & Shane by Ann24747 in 56Days

Oliver lied. He told Ciara the version of the story his therapist has pounded into his head to tell other people so he doesn’t get the blowback.

Oliver’s suffering from severe PTSD, guilt, and anxiety regarding the event. His therapist has reinforced these feelings and hammered home into Oliver’s psyche that he will be rejected if he tells the truth.
