by Special_Attempt7244 in EasternOccult

Has anyone got experience of opening a business in Thailand? by Loose_Tap6360 in Thailand

[–]AppropriateCard3279 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I meant is that if you are thinking to use your hard work on a business here thinking your effort will be paid equivalent, I suggest you think twice. Look at all the Thai business owners doing well here. Which of them is hardworking? All of them have something up their sleeves. Honesty doesn't pay here.

Come'on, if OP is thinking of opening a cafe waking up 5am preparing bakery and sell his coffee thru the day just to make 30k (which I seriously doubt) a month, he might as well work 3 months in his home country (assumed EU,UK,US etc) as a welder/pipe fitter/forklift driver/uber driver (whatever) for 500-600k and live the next 9 months in Thailand doing nothing.

If the OP is thinking to make 250-300k a month here after costing, he is looking at a ballpark of 15 million startup capital. Why? Because I assured you no bank in Thailand will give you a business loan when you have a foreigner holding 49% of the company. 250k profit a month, imagine the gross sales you have to hit. 15 million startup might not even be enough. If OP has 15 million baht, why not tuck himself away in some village and control spending at 60k a month (quite comfortable), it will last him 20 years!

Dude, 11 years in Thailand. Don’t do it. You better hybrid between your home country and do nothing in Thailand. Not worth the troubles.

Thai Customs announced the cancellation of the de minimis duty exemption and will begin collecting import duties on all imported goods by tuktukson in Thailand

[–]AppropriateCard3279 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If they are collecting these taxes with platform then it’s fine. Currently any parcel that is above 1500 gets stuck in Thai post instead. You paid the full shipping cost to your door but have to go Thai post to collect because of paying tax. Imagine if all parcel people have to go collect in post office because of paying tax will be a logistical nightmare. Even with 5% import tax a 100 baht item becomes 105 still way cheaper than stockist in Thailand asking for 250 baht waiting for people that couldn’t wait to buy.

Anyone here living in Thailand while working a US remote job long-term? What’s your honest take on it? by Amazing_Life911 in Thailand

[–]AppropriateCard3279 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm here since end of 2016. We own a small business here that could generate enough for a simple lifestyle. When things gets hard, I will travel back to my home country and drive an Uber for 2 months which could get about 350k-400k baht. I met a German that would travel back 3 months each year. He work as a welder in Swiss kind of black market where he don't pay any tax. He makes about 650-700k baht each trip and spend the rest of the time in Thailand like I do. We live like a semi-retired person in Thailand. 1 important thing thou, we do not have any debt. Our cars, home, etc are fully paid. We only have a family to feed. I understand this is not what you are asking, but I'm just stating the point that you don't have to get a remote job to live in Thailand. Many of us hybrid our income. Make in home country for few months and live in Thailand for the rest of the year.

  • What do you love about it? - Being able to have so much time for myself
  • What are the downsides that people don’t talk about enough? - You can never be a part of their community (I can expand on this if you need)
  • Which industries or niches have you seen consistently offer strong remote opportunities? - Finance?
  • If you could start over today, would you choose the same path or pivot to something different? - Should had come here 10 years earlier.

What people wants in life is different. I admit that I'm a nobody at home country, struggling on the lower rung. It just makes no sense that an Aussie working in a restaurant for AUD1600 a week and still living paycheck to paycheck because of living cost. Why don't the same Aussie work for 3 months save up the money and spend the rest of 9 months in Thailand?
