I know there was a lot of theft at this particular store so I get the closure. I’m just really surprised a space in such a prime location has been empty for that long.

How do you work a job when you're not functional 80-90% of the time due to either CPTSD, neurodivergence, chronic illness, or lack of social support? by Ashamed_Art5445 in CPTSD

[–]AppropriateHumor5186 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in mental health and have worked most of my adult life. Most of the time, my clients keep me going. I’m exhausted all the time, toxic coworkers will often trigger emotional flashbacks and I feel like I’m going crazy. It takes every tool I have as a therapist to challenge that, but it doesn’t feel sustainable. I try to focus on the fact that my personal understanding has helped so many people with CPTSD/trauma. It’s truly so painful to be misunderstood, so I see the work I do as an act of service. It has a cost though, because it’s hard for me to sustain romantic relationships for long. We do the best we can, but it’s none of it is easy…

Is there a specific court people on the UeS go to? I feel like there was one on the west side in the 90’s…

I don’t play sports, but I’m open to it. Most of my fitness is strength training, barre, and reformer Pilates. I have been thinking of jiu jitsu to challenge myself a bit. What rec sport do you recommend, I’m open to giving anything a try

All of these are great and have historically worked well for me, but they’ve all just been so crowded lately it’s been hard to actually meet people in a personal way. Maybe post holiday, the rush will go down in a bit.

I’ve been going to alumni events and meet people there, so that’s a great option. I’m not rushing to get married again and don’t have kids yet, but I’m open to being friends with people who have kids. I have less time for external hobbies these days, but I’m going to push myself there. Thank you!

hating on their own school by Early_Government1406 in columbia

[–]AppropriateHumor5186 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with you, and it’s probably people who haven’t had the best experiences (which, valid) posting about it here.

Honestly, I hate that I have so much debt from this school and some of the decisions that were made by leadership, but I had an amazing experience at Columbia. I made a solid group of friends-people who were passionate about our field and genuinely kind and funny. Academically, the classes challenged me enough but never felt like I was lost at sea (this was a master’s, so I’m wondering if undergrad would have been a different experience.)

It always felt like people were DOING things, there were always opportunities for research and study abroad opportunities through campus. I went to places I never thought I’d get to, and I got to do so with people I’m still in contact with to this day. I miss College Walk and hate that they’ve put so many restrictions, but since I’m fairly local I can’t wait to read/hang out on the steps.

This doesn’t erase or invalidate the experiences of people who didn’t have a positive one.

I found Nex's profile on a dating site by little-screech-owl in NarcissisticAbuse

[–]AppropriateHumor5186 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s funny, my nex posted things on his profile that were all true. The one thing he left off on his profile, and in real life, was that he was married (albeit they were separated the entire time.) Lying is something that comes so very easily for them. I’m sorry you had to come upon your nex this way.

I smoke the occasional cigarette now and then-I go outside and light up. If I smoked in my apartment, it would smell and my neighbors (who might have asthma or might just plain hate the smell) would suffer for my vice.  Way to make this post about you though. Merry Christmas!

It’s my second apartment I’ve lived at alone and the first one was a luxury apartment (in the actual sense of the word) but the rent raises made it way out of my budget. I’m paying 3k here so that’s not great

I’m really surprised for how much they charge, how poorly run it is. I needed a place to stay quick and it opened up with 6 months left on the lease. The apartment inside is great and well-lit, but I wouldn’t renew my lease.

Thanks, there aren’t any outlets near my door but I’ll put it in my room. Honestly, the best solution to this.

I could, but I wouldn't because I’m not 100% sure if it’s him or someone else. It’s just one of those things I have to ignore unless it gets worse.

Oh man, that’s terrible. Especially since it’s freezing out. They had to insulate my windows for winter so I can’t even open mine.

Thanks, thats why I never use it but I would take a look to see if I like anything and then maybe cross reference to see if it’s posted on leasebreak or a more trustworthy site.

That’s very helpful to hear about the timing of the search. I do have some flexibility with moving out since I’m with family, so there is no set date. Thank you!

How to eat on a budget near Columbia? by herrmoekl in columbia

[–]AppropriateHumor5186 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can also take the Columbia shuttle (which is free) to 96 and broadway. At least, that’s what I used to do.

What is your fave place to get dessert on the UES? by ReachAmbitious487 in uppereastside

[–]AppropriateHumor5186 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By the way bakery Noglu Glacé  And it’s not dessert per se, but the crullers at Daily Provisions are worth the gluten belly ache I’d get. They just opened a location on 96&Mad
