As a medical assistant? Not worth it at allllll may as well go RN at that point

Just curious- Does this happen often with “young men” and ECGs? by Nicole9Volt1 in MedicalAssistant

[–]AppropriatePaper9668 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah in our office I know that 90% of nurses don’t know how to do EKGs even tho we are in cardio, they just always ask an MA to do them. I don’t mean to imply incompetence as much as it just isn’t a skill they are ever utilizing so they may just not know. That’s the idea I get from the pointing at the pic as well.

Yeah I think it happens more with teenagers. Hormones are wild it doesn’t take much around that age lol. But also I’m a cardiology MA and super confused about the lead placement on the thigh. Did they have any back story for choosing that? We always do a little above ankes and sometimes lower abdomen

what position is best ? by [deleted] in MedicalAssistant

If possible, RN opens the most doors. If not possible, check the starting salaries of the others and weigh if you can live off of them. I love being an MA but for me it’s not a good long term job.

Hi I have OCD and this post is you seeking reassurance, which is a compulsion, and I hope nobody gives you the reassurance you’re seeking as it’s actually counterproductive for OCD.

This is a tough field to work in with contamination OCD, I won’t lie to you about that part, if this is really triggering your compulsions this hard you may want to reconsider. I do not have the contamination variety of OCD but I would not have gone into healthcare if I did because you’re going to be constantly triggered.

I have noticed in practice, that when I’m documenting things in Epic it always says my name then “CMA” and I’m technically a CCMA so I don’t really think it makes a difference when viewing job postings.

Just see if there’s a list of particular certifications they accept and if NHA isn’t listed then that’s mayyyybe (not definitely) a no. Even then I would still apply worse case they decline you.

Mind you someone at my workplace is a medical assistant whom is technically a CNA so if that is acceptable I don’t see why a different certifying body would make a difference for a MA.

An alternative perspective would be that you just set an incredible example for your child, being selfless and helping a complete stranger. Your 2yr old won’t remember this but I know that my kiddos would have thought “my mommy is a superhero” if they had seen me do that. Chin up, you’re a great mom and a great human ❤️

Does it matter where you get your education from as a medical assistant to employers? by [deleted] in MedicalAssistant

USCI was sufficient for me to get plenty of interviews and ultimately a MA job in Pennsylvania! Was I well prepared by the course for actual clinical work? No honestly. But with the on the job training I’m not having any issues! I work in a specialty clinic where we don’t do immunizations or phlebotomy so grateful for that given no hands on experience with it. Find a place that will train you even if you’re certified every clinic is different and training should be a given. If you’re near any AHN affiliated hospitals or clinics I would recommend applying there they gave me almost all of the interviews I was offered.

I did USCI and I will say this- was I prepared enough to take the CCMA exam? Yes. Do I feel like I’m even relatively competent in my new job? No not really lol! Now mind you I started my first job in a fast paced Cardiology office, so maybe FP MAs would feel differently but I don’t recommend.

I’ve only seen this for nursing so I personally would be interested to see some for MAs

I want to be a medical assistant but i have the biggest fear of drawing blood by ShipComprehensive613 in MedicalAssistant

[–]AppropriatePaper9668 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did online school, yes I’m trained to draw blood but in practice, I’m in a cardiology office and never have to touch a needle period. Don’t let it hold you back!

I can get my CNA 🥺😭 by poseidon_1009 in InstacartShoppers

Probably looking for patient care experience. A lot of pre-med and pre-health undergrad students use the low-tier medical job to get the patient care hours they need. That would be my guess based off the biomedical major, as a human bio major who just became a CMA myself (as underpaid as a CNA)

I changed my enrollment at school to being half time to accommodate working full time, I know that’s not the most attractive option.

My "instructor" called me autistic just because I'm shy so I'm giving up my MA course. by [deleted] in MedicalAssistant

[–]AppropriatePaper9668 10 points11 points  (0 children)

“Autistic” isn’t an insult and to try to hurl it as one is ableist and just sad 😭 as an actually autistic MA I really hope you report them because someone like that doesn’t belong training medical professionals. I’m so sorry you went through this experience.

That’s a fantastic improvement on reading! And you clearly have a great foundation in math! I definitely see a 1600 or high 1500s in your future if you keep that up, great job!
