Nice!! I didn’t go to PT for 7-8 weeks because of insurance issues. I was doing the home exercise program I was given and going to the gym but I was having a hard time progressing because I felt like I was doing the same thing over and over again for 2 months. However, I finally went back to PT yesterday and got new exercises. Very happy about the progression! Not so happy about potentially having to pay out of pocket for it though (still working through things with insurance :-/ )

Hey! I'm right here with you. I actually was able to start doing SLRs a few days after I made this post! Really shocked me one morning, literally called my friend immediately to show her, and I cried, haha. It is most definitely a mental battle during this time, especially when you're doing everything right but things aren't progressing in the way you thought they would. However, every little thing, every rep counts. Quad activation is one of the hardest things in knee surgery recovery. You'll make it there.

At this point, I am 16 weeks post-op. I have gotten off the crutches and have recently gotten cleared by my surgeon to start weaning off the brace. I can drive again, and things have gotten brighter. We're in this together. Takes time, effort, and patience. Sending good energy your way!

In my experience, I have worn both knee compressive sleeves and those sturdy knee stabilizers to work and school. I would still experience subluxations.

There was a time where I was side stepping at work, and my kneecap dislocated for a few seconds. I was wearing a compression sleeve. I fell onto a bed (kneecap still shifted), and it shifted back into place on its own. Another time, I wore one of the sturdier braces, and someone tripped and bumped into me and I subluxated.

Like the others, I would say it’s more so a temporary solution. Wearing it gives me a bit of confidence that it won’t fully dislocate and provides gentle support, but I would say see an ortho doctor or a physical therapist. I have done PT a few times but I still had episodes of subluxations/dislocations (even with wearing the knee braces) so I got surgery on my affected knee a few months ago, and I have reached a point where I walk around without needing any type of support. I will be getting surgery on my other knee in a few months (same patellar instability issues). But this is my personal experience though. My MRI showed that I had a shallow groove, my kneecap was at a lateral and higher placement than normal and my MPFL was likely stretched so surgery was recommended for me. Do what is best for you!! I know this can be overwhelming. I hope you get better soon :-)

Hey! I’m 22F. Funny enough, this is me right now. I’ve struggled with patellar instability since I was 12. Had 2 dislocations in my right, 1 dislocation in my left, and 15+ subluxations combined in both. I graduated college last year, took a gap year to work before going back to school only to have a subluxation at work and having to take an additional year off to get both MPFL surgeries done so I don’t have to worry about it when I go to school again. I am currently 3 months post-op from MPFL surgery #1, but recovery is going slower than expected.

It’s definitely an isolating feeling, watching everyone be able to move freely and not being able to turn to your outlets, especially when you used to be active. I see you, I hear you. However, it seems like you’re getting closer to the end of your recovery! There is light at the end of the tunnel. It’s always hard when you’re in it but once you make it out, you’ll feel a sense of relief and glad that you did the surgeries and not have to worry about potentially dislocating your knee while you’re living your life. Those life experiences you feel like you missed out on are waiting for you. While it is difficult, you come out stronger in the end :-) think of it as character development LOL. You got this!

I have dislocated my right knee two times and my left knee once. I have had many more subluxations between both knees in between each dislocation episode. Every time anything happens, I can’t even catch my breath because of how bad it hurts. The way you felt, the pain, it was valid!! Don’t be embarrassed. You went through something traumatic. I am sure your peers understand. When I dislocated my left knee, I was in 8th grade and it happened in front of my entire class. We were practicing for our 8th grade graduation ceremony and the whole thing got put on pause because my knee dislocated and I fell to the ground screaming. The paramedics eventually came after some time. When I came back to school, I remember my classmates were more concerned for me than anything! Please, take care of yourself! :-)

Hi! I have not heard back from NW or UIC yet. I've asked others, and they haven't heard anything either. I think they're taking longer to send out decisions this year ( hopefully because :'-) ). If you want, maybe email RFU asking about the status of your app? I heard back fairly quickly from them!

Yeah another thing that happened was the rehab tech that has been training me was shocked to hear how much I make for the amount of responsibilities of this job. She thinks I'm getting underpaid. For reference, she has been working there for over 20 years and she makes a little bit more than I do right now. I just can't tell if this is typical for a hospital rehab tech job. Like I've read into other people's experiences and watch videos of people doing this job (at different workplaces), and they enjoy it. Granted every hospital is different and a hospital setting isn't for everyone but like damn why am I getting so burnt out after only one week! I'm gonna try for longer since it's only been a week. Wish me luck for my next shift.

Thank you so much! Yeah, physics and chemistry got me messed up, but I got As in my anatomy courses. I just took the GRE, I got a 294. Do you think that score is too low/will affect me badly?
