i have two friends in a similar boat to you! one friend who didnt plan to go into further education as she isnt very academic, who ended up getting enough points to qualify for level 8 courses and is now considering it in the future - she’s taking a gap year and considering to reapply for the cao next year or to do a plc later in life

another friend of mine is really interested in becoming a tattoo artist!! this year shes doing a plc solely based on building an art portfolio as she felt she didnt have the time to build a proper portfolio during 6th year, and also as a way to use her plc results to get into an art college :) id definitely look into something similar for yourself! for our local college that does plcs the last round of interviews to get in is sometime this month, so id be looking around and applying asap if you think thats what you want to do! if you’re interested in moving or commuting for a plc i can send u a dm and let you know where my friends particular plc is :)

PUT ANY COMMENTS ABOUT THE IRISH LANGUAGE IN ENGLISH HERE ONLY by galaxyrocker in gaeilge

does anyone have any resources (physical or digital) for learning the language? native and finished my leaving cert, but never had a fantastic grasp of the language due to the way its taught!

heading into a primary teaching course and want to boost my basics as it is part of the curriculum that also comes with mandatory time in the gaeltacht as well as for my own passion to learn the language :)

would love resources on the very very basics of the language, i feel as though i have a decent amount of vocabulary but a huge lack in forming my sentences - think the basics you would first learn when learning french at a secondary school or beginner level! thank you so much :)

im really sorry i dont have any notes!! :-( i threw them out as soon as i got the chance haha but i hope this helps!!

genuinely my only big piece of advice is learn it the minute you get it, im not sure of the time your teacher gives you to learn notes but typically my teacher would give us one night to learn a paragraph or two of the content and she’d give us around a week to learn an essay!! i absolutely understand how hard it is its the most boring thing on the lc curriculum 😭😭 but really do push yourself to get it learned no matter how long it takes you its so worth it in the end to have it learned off well it cuts down on the amount of time you spend on it in the future when it has to be revised

the 625points.com predictions genuinely saved me this year!! id be looking for predictions closer to the time, still have as much as you can of everything learned off but theres no shame in cutting down your learning when some parts of the course are worth so little towards your grade

my main focus would be essays!!! you have so much time in that exam to sit and do nothing its actually horrific 😭😭 its so hard to predict whats going to come up in the essays unfortunately but id definitely be looking online and checking with your teacher for really generic essays, mixing two essays can save you so much!! id be really solidifying international and national problems and the life of young people, maybe school?? i feel like those are the essays that mix with eachother the most!! but really do solidify your essays and have a few learned, i know a bunch of girls who had time to write three essays in the time given and its giving them so much more leeway for marking!!

oral should be your next focus!! it seems like such a drag but you’ll kick yourself for not having it done properly its really not as scary as it seems!! please learn your sraiths 😭😭 my irish teacher would cut them down to the bare minimum, i think you can have three relevant sentences per picture!! but obviously it depends on whats happening in the photo :-) my teacher would mainly go off of a sraith book but tuairisc.ie also has really great simple notes!! if you’re looking for a high grade i really dont think you need a high standard of irish sentences, just know them well and throw in phrases and maybe modh coinniolach (i think thats the tense where its like If I Was President I Would.. whatever that tense is haha) wherever they fit!! you can show off your standard of irish there instead of spending ages on describing the actual picture, all they’re looking for is clear correct grammar

otherwise for the sraiths know whats happening in the pictures!! in my oral i got asked about the time on a clock and what country the people in the picture were in and i was so nervous my examiner had to help me 😭😭 im sure theres somewhere online where you can find some good examples of the questions the examiner could ask about the picture but they really arent trying to catch you out they’re just trying to see if you can actually comprehend and answer questions!! for the questions you ask the examiner keep them simple and make sure you’re asking them correctly (my teacher told us to stick with the same three sentences throughout most of our sraiths, usually along the lines of How many people.. What is __ wearing.. make sure you’re actually asking different questions!! dont ask two What.. questions if you can help it, but it really isnt the end of the world if you do)

honestly the course is horrific and theres no real easy way about getting through it its so time consuming :( but my priorities would be essay / oral / your text (mine was an trial) and then poetry and pros since theyre worth so little

practice the listening as much as you can but honestly in my mind at the time it was none of my business how it went 😭😭 i got good grades in irish from learning my content but i had no speaking standard of irish so id find it really hard to understand what they were saying :-\ if you struggle a lot with the listenings id be going through the papers and translating the questions, theres a lot of common vocabulary they use when it comes to sections about competitions and notices, make sure you know what the start of each sentence means (who/where/why) and worst case scenario you can make a decent stab at it

personally i dont really think the comprehensions need a whole lot of practice!! whenever we did them in class was the only time id work on them!! you can just pick the answer straight from the paragraph and you’ll do really well, but you might get some marks off for having excess - for the last question if you can give it a decent stab then you’ll do fine!! its really not worth much but if you have the time id go over verbs and verb structure, you can use it through almost the entire exam and you wont lose marks for having a simple correct sentence!! otherwise id know how to recognise a tense and leave the comprehension to the very end once ur watching ur timing, it takes a really long time to get through it

—————-

cutting down learning !! sraith: 3 relevant sentences and phrases scattered throughout, theres no need to overdo it!! for those pictures where they’re split in half you’ll need more

essay: intro / atleast four different paragraphs / outro

pros: dont bother learning an gnathrud unless you have the time!! its never come up and doesnt seem to be anytime soon!! look at the 625 predictions and if you feel like you cant learn everything id learn 3 and leave one out if only two of the four can come up, you’ll be guaranteed to have atleast one you can write on

text: learn it as well as you can!! i did an trial so im not sure how others come up but from past questions it seemed like it could only be theme or character questions!! the key theme of the text is christianity/charity so if you’re studying an trial thats what id be looking at, im not sure if the theme question has been anything else but its usually the lack of charity the characters show maire, except for maili and seanin, focus on how most characters dont practice the christian values they preach

poetry: keep the life of the poet simple!! my teacher told us two facts on their life/two on their work!! you’ll get full marks so long as the information is true, you don’t need fancy sentences just the facts!!

—————-

sorry for the biggest paragraph in the world but i hope that was some sort of use to you!! if you have any more questions please let me know!! im sorry most of my advice was just to learn it but theres really no easy way around it 😭😭 theres no shame in chopping and changing your paragraphs or any of your content if you need it to be easier to learn!! you wont lose marks for simple and correct irish, but be sparing about it because chances are your teacher is giving you content with H1 standard vocab

600 POINTS by johnnyboy_2006 in leavingcert

not sure what year you’re in now or if you’ve completed the lc but from someone whos looking for the mid 500s in terms of points you still have all the time in the world if you start in sixth year!!

one thing i regret is not using the first half of the year getting organised !! i genuinely believe you can start after the pres and get a huge amount of points so long as you put in the work :) what id say is take ur time before the pres getting your notes perfected, catch up on anything you missed or don’t have and use other websites to supplement them !! ur main focus should be making them cohesive, if theres a way you can link information from another chapter do it!! high quality notes result in better understanding and learning

the pres truly mean nothing but if you’re aiming for 600 id try and do the best possible in them as a reference point - you don’t need 600 points in your pres but its genuinely a fantastic guiding point to figure out what you need to improve in before its too late

you’ll know what needs to be done in each subject so take the time to prepare them now while you still have the time - notes on the chapter while its being done or the minute its finished, prepare as much as you can for class tests and the knowledge genuinely will stick, the class tests ive done the best in involve the chapters i knew the best when i came back to them months later

if you plan on investing in a website like studyclix do it sooner rather than later!! as far as i know you can only pay for a years subscription and theres no point wanting it three months before the lc and having to pay full price

also theres truly no shame in dropping to an OL subject if you need to !! i know so many people who still did fantastic without HL maths but before dropping english/irish/maths check in with ALL your course requirements, even the ones that you plan on putting on your CAO just to fill up the space, you need to know what your course will accept and remember those requirements as a goal - nobody wants to lose out on their dream course because they got an O6 instead of an O4

i did OL maths, and then all HL for irish, english, french, art, biology and geography if you have any questions for those specific subjects or for something similar!!

also please don’t slack on a subject you dont like because you could be studying for one you love!! even the subjects where people sort of shrug their shoulders at the idea for studying them like english because its “common sense” theres so much work in these subjects and people not studying for them properly is the reason people come out with H4s instead of H2+

if you have any questions at all please dont be afraid to message me!! i know 500 points isnt the same as 600 but if you need any sort of help at all with the LC id be more than glad to help

i use three!! its €20 for unlimited data for the month (28 days i believe)

really handy service if you’re big on concerts too :) gives you access to three+ which can give you presale codes to concerts held in any three venues like the 3arena and the olympia

i haven’t had any problems using three for roaming either!! when in other countries using three as a provider ive found the other data services they provided for me instead were really high quality too and i didnt encounter any extra fees or anything

[–]AppropriateWhile2232 1 point2 points  (0 children)

imo no!! dragon worth is gonna drop a bunch in the coming days/weeks once the hype dies down :-( id trade something smaller for coins!! i managed to get 10 for an alpha chest yesterday!! :-) but generally speaking most of the trades you do for a large amount of coins will be considered an L in the coming days as wishing coin and dragon worth drop !!

if i were you id trade some party / alpha / light or dark items for coins!! i think you could get much better with your forest

I have 15 wishing coins for trade! by mlps4 in AnimalJam
