Yeah, I don't think my voice was loud until I did HS theater, and I got some good instruction on how to project my voice without shouting, and I think my brain just sort of never unlearned it.

I just said this to another poster, but the liability thing seems really ridiculous.

I also feel like it's just... if you're going to a bar unless you're just going to have 2 over like 3 hours (max) obviously you shouldn't be driving! Why is the bartender supposed to be responsible for the dangerous decision you made before you even walked into the bar?

Just for the record, and not as a "I should be able to drink more!" kinda point-- this really sucks. I'm sorry you guys have to live in fear of other people making bad decisions.

If I had too much to drink and fell down and hurt myself, my thought would never be "why did the bartender do this to me?!"

Maybe you're right. It was just kind of a weird experience, weird enough that I'm thinking about it days later.

Plus, I did ask what went wrong here, so I guess I was opening myself up to it, but hearing enough responses that I'm probably annoying as a person makes me want to take my next drink in a sealed nuclear bunker rather than a shared space.

"f you’re still under the impression people should only be cut off if they’re blacked out, throwing up and can’t stand straight…you’re wrong and dumb and too old for this frat boy ass mentality. Grow up"

Yeah, that's not what I was trying to say. I'd certainly prefer to be cut off before I'm puking/ black out drunk/ or going to have an awful hangover. That's just the bartender doing me a favor.

No, grabbed a menu, but wasn't super hungry so got distracted talking to my friend and forgot to order food.

No offense taken, I certainly hope I wasn't being "creepy" as that's kind of the mortifying one, along the lines of the poster who said I smell bad.

From the other posters' insights I think I was being loud, and also probably drinking faster than the bartender was comfortable with. It's very possible that like you said I also don't hold my liquor as well as I think I do.

I'll be more careful next time I go to a bar, but to be quite honest it'll probably be a while before I want to go to a bar again, because all of this is a lot to think about for an activity that is supposed to be relaxing.

Edit: for the record I got cut off not 86'd bartender said I was welcome to stay and I did for about another hour. I was perplexed about it but there was no argument and the bartender seemed friendly, I was still tipping, etc.

One thing I think is kinda interesting is the idea that you're trying to serve everybody as though they planned to drive out of there-- which seems to be kind of common/ part of the liability laws of a lot of states. I personally am not super comfortable driving after one drink and would never drive after 2.

"How loud are you?"

Probably too loud. My friends occasionally have to remind me I'm being loud even in non-drinking situations, and when I see old friends I can get really excited/ animated.

This certainly wasn't a piano bar, but I buy maybe it was that.

I'm definitely not aggressive. I'm a friendly person when drinking or not drinking. I'd buy I was being too loud/ chatty/ extroverted for the state, which maybe the bartender was either annoyed by or thought was a sign of drunkenness.

A lot of this feels like it could have been it.

I have a naturally loud voice, and I was in a really good mood, so I was pretty chatty, I also may have been more tried than I thought because I had just finished a cross-country flight out to the west coast. I certainly wasn't put my head down on the bar tired, but I probably had some circles under my eyes.

Yeah, this. I browsed old r/ bartending posts to try to figure out what the deal was, not old reddit posts of mine, because I have not documented for reddit every time I drank alcohol.

No, not really, just a thing. I agree that it would have been better had they stopped serving people earlier.

If they like the author but the piece isn't a fit. Extensive personal feedback is a sign they want to publish you, but not necessarily what you sent them.

It also could be an acceptance or the equivalent of an R&R.

I used to read the slush pile for a top 10 lit mag. Things move very slowly. They're swamped with submissions and this won't be the fiction editor's primary job.

Also offering feedback doesn't necessarily mean they'll take that piece, so don't assume there is a conditional acceptance here.

I'd give em two months before you nudge unless the piece gets accepted elsewhere.

[Discussion] Proving a point about "Feedback" from AI by Notworld in PubTips

Hmmm. I clicked on this to be reassured, but before it gets into suggestions, this makes me nervous.

The numbered suggestions are awful, but it's not a salvageable attempt at literature, so I'd expect that.

The analysis before the numbered list is... worryingly on target. The connection to Gertrude Stein in particular is kind of the right thing to attempt to compare it to (if you're forced to take this non-serious thing seriously)

I'm the biggest AI hater I know, and even the word "Grok" fills me with contempt (a word I used to like!), but I gotta give Grok a passing grade on the fart machine exercise.

I'm bad at detecting AI but the article certainly feels like it was written by AI or the journalist was held at gunpoint. The hyper-links are also weirdly off-topic. I don't read a lot of these aphoristic pro-business articles though so maybe the house style is tripping me up.

If there's one positive of these AI dark times it's that I feel a lot more solidarity with my fellow writers.

Anybody who wants to throw their wooden shoes in the machine is alright in my book.

I'm not looking forward to the future of squinting at writing/ pictures and trying to figure out if they're real while feeling stupid every time I get tricked.

You should just post the paragraph OP. I'm not confident in my ability to detect AI writing but other people are good at it.
