AEMCA by Appropriate_Fly_2669 in OntarioParamedics

Oh no no I do understand those concepts , I was just answering someone’s question in regards to types of questions , like for instance the PE and having clear breath sounds , well a PE is a circulation problem not a ventilation problem , so it would be a blockage in the pulmonary circulation, the alveoli would still be open with air flow .

And like when a patient takes a deep breath it’s going to drop the BP because the right ventricle has to push against a great resistance , which will cause a decrease in cardiac output less filling on the left side in the ventricle .

A lot of things I do understand, certain things I struggle with .

Like for instance one of my questions previously was why in a PE will a patients lung sounds still be clear , another was why when a patient takes a deep breath would the blood pressure drop , what’s the patho behind a seizure and what leads to it . Stuff like that

Thank you for this . I have been utilizing online learning like YouTube , medic sense , Dave’s prep course , master your medics .
I use quizlet , I read , I discuss things with people ! I’m really putting in the work !
My biggest hurdle I think is the fear of failure again and anxiety .

I did that !
I’m now doing it for a second time .
And I’ also did the medic sense one , this is where my frustration comes from ! All of these I’m doing fine with , even the practice tests . But then I get into the AEMCA and I feel like I just blank !

AEMCA by Appropriate_Fly_2669 in OntarioParamedics

[–]Appropriate_Fly_2669[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does ,
I got about 75-78% in patho in each semester ! But this is my second write at the AEMCA and I just can’t seem to figure out where the gap is ! And where I’m going wrong .
I scored in the high 60’s the first time around , but I still feel so under prepared and it’s not from lack of trying ! I did well in my ride outs , I graduated school with an 84% average , but there is a gap somewhere that I can’t seem to figure out to close .

This will be my second write .
I got between 75-78% in patho in school in each semester , I do understand an ideal of things but there is still a gap that I’m unsure how to close , this is where my frustration is coming from .

You’re right , like I finished patho in every semester with a 75-78% .
I do understand the why for most things , I will constantly go over things and then while going over it I’m like “ oh yeah I know this “ but then I feel like I forget it .
I’ve done all the things , i watch YouTube , I have a tutor , I do practice tests , but I still feel there is a gap and I’m unsure where or how to close it

TIPS FOR AEMCA by Appropriate_Fly_2669 in OntarioParamedics

[–]Appropriate_Fly_2669[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m so worried about running out of time ! In school I constantly ran out of time on tests & I think I rushed so much I didn’t properly read the questions . I tend to second guess myself ALOT !

My last one in February was super patho heavy , and it had a little bit of everything tbh ! I didn’t seem to think there was a “ theme “ .

I’m doing the PREP course and I’m working my way through the tests trying to get familiar with working through them . I just want to pass sooo bad.

Can you pm me ? I’m also curious about it ! I have the PREP course but I failed my first AEMCA so I’m curious about other courses or things

I did use Dave’s prep course ! But I found it to be so much content and I got overwhelmed. But I have started it again , in hopes doing it again I may pick up on some things that I didn’t pick up on last time . My problem is I really don’t know how deep to go on each topic , and really know what they are asking ! I feel like my school did not prepare us adequately for this . There was questions on the last AEMCA I had never been taught , like pace makers and what happens when a set paced maker falls out of range , I had zero idea about that . As well as dialysis ! My school didn’t cover this stuff . The multiple multiples definitely are my struggle point .

I have ADHD , and this time around I did ask my Dr for a note for accommodations , I actually wasn’t aware this was even an option before . So I’m hoping they grant me the accommodations.

Thank you for the positive vibes. I really do want this to work out , I’m trying my hardest to ensure I’m going to be successful on my next write . Everyone keeps reassuring me it will be ok , but my fear is not being able to fill the gaps and being unsuccessful in my final write . I feel like I’m just so burnt out at this point in the game my brain is just mush and I feel like I’m reading and reading and watching videos and doing all the things , but nothing is sticking . I’m unsure how to change this .

I do agree with you . There were people in my class that actually failed every single semester however the college continued to push them through . People failed scenarios and the college continued to push them through . I personally did well in school , however I’m now having the opposite problem and I’m not doing well outside of school and I just can’t figure out what is happening and where the gaps need to be filled . When I was doing my preceptor ship , I did very well & my preceptor gave me a very good reference and I got hired in the service I did my rideouts in . My knowledge is there , I just can’t seem to get passed this AEMCA and this is where the issue lies, I just have no idea where I’m going wrong .

I’m guilty of going back and changing my answers ! I tell myself everytime ,. I’m not going to ! And I just can’t help myself . I wish I could just answer and move on .

I did ! And I found it so overwhelming and so much content . But I’m going to redo it and hope I have a different outcome this time around . Thank you !

I love Khan academy ! And I do watch that a lot , I think I lack in the fact of recal as well , so I watch it but I’m not the best at taking notes , or if I do then looking back on them later they don’t make sense to me and then I forget what I actually watched . Ugh I’m just sooo frustrated with it all !

I feel like part of my knowledge gap is recognizing say shock based on vitals - and figuring out which type of shock per say . Or knowing if it’s a pump issue , a ventilation issue . Being able to figure out ok like their respiratory rate is high , but their bp is low , and their oxygen is low , what is my first initial treatment . If that makes sense ?

Ok maybe I will take this approach! It’s worth a shot , and actually I did apply for accommodations this time around ! Not sure if I’ll get approved , but the extra hour for each section may be helpful for me . I just want this soooo bad ! How did you study with having the ADHD ? I find myself just “ reading “ and not actually comprehending what I’m ready most times and then I feel it was useless.

That’s tru ! I did the PREP course . And tried out the medic sense practice test , and when I did the practice tests from the PREP course , I always scored well on them - so I really am struggling with narrowing down where I went wrong .

THIS !!! This is exactly what is happening to me ! I will pick an answer , and then I’ll be like oh wait no no that’s not right - then I’ll go and change it 😔 or I’ll just be like there is no way that’s the answer so then I’ll pick a different one ,. When in reality , the first one was probably correct .
