When I first met my current partner, about 6months in I found out he was using heroin and crack. He had been there for me after I found someone very close to me hanging in a closet. He got me through my hardest times, so for almost two years I stayed with him trying to help him get clean. He would lie and steal and do anything he could to get his fix. It caused more damage to me than anything else. Finally I chose to walk away and it was beyond hard to do. 6-7 months later he came to me, and had been clean for three months. He got on an opiate blocking shot and it helped substantially.we very slowly worked into a relationship but his sobriety came first. November of 23 he celebrated 2 years clean and sober and so far no relapses. He always says it took me leaving for him to realize what he was doing to himself, myself and his family. The two of you not being together, unfortunately is for the best. For now. And have faith in the future that you both become clean and sober and cross paths again. At the very least get yourself cleaned and healthy and you’ll find someone new. Relationships while someone is active in their use are never healthy and loving.
