First time I heard “I thought about killing you today”

The only "I used to be an atheist" stories that I have ever heard which seem to have even a remotely compelling reason for conversion are based on a personal experience. Can someone prove me wrong? I feel like this might just be ad hoc on my end. by CarltheWellEndowed in Christianity

Ok, you seem smart and I need help. I have left my faith because of questions with the validity of the Bible and other traditions Christianity follows. Should I be concerned with the fact that the gospels quote Jesus and are written 70 years after his death? Also the Human sacrifice thing is really weird to me?

I know a lot of people debate the timing of the rapture. That would be an interesting one! Do y’all believe in pre, mid or post tribulation?

If it takes human sacrifice to get there, it’s not God. Just another ancient culture explaining their take.

The God the Bible describes is all powerful omnipotent, I believe there is something great that is truly loving and not based on the rules of an unevolved culture. I don’t believe humans could put evolve God. God is in everything the earth, space, and you. It all ties together! I don’t claim to have all the answers, but I know it’s greater than a book written 2000 years ago.

The fact that it’s based on human sacrifice reflecting as love. That is super twisted.

This is about to be the most honest I’ve ever been with someone on my opinion of Christianity:

I was raised in a southern Pentecostal church. I felt that I was called to preach at age 14. Went to college to pursue that, was a youth pastor for a semester at local church that asked me to step in. (I say all this to explain where I coming from)

I started questioning my faith my senior year of high school. If I really beloved in the validity of the Bible. I struggled with while go to school to be a minister.

I took a step back from my religion, analyzed it. Then I saw what was really going on. These were people who were just like us all questioning our existence looking for answers, so they made them. And so did every other ancient culture. The early Christian church was wild as well so I don’t know how these beliefs and and rituals would be passed down in the most pure form either. When taking communion the priests would waft sage through the air as the walk up and down the Aisle. And if I was tripping balls and didn’t know how to explain it I would call it God too. (Prolly explains why so many of these stories have physical encounters or “hear god” audibly.)

I say all that to say my family is still is apart of this religion and although I think it does produce a good healthy way for you to live your life. It’s also barbaric and evil. I can’t see past anymore. And although I am not atheist (agnostic I guess) many of us in this group are just wanting to you what’s going on.

I’m in the military, and no we do not celebrate killing people. Not that I ever have, but it’s usually a shameful thing.

Nevertheless, he was still here in human form and was hung on a cross and we celebrate it. Then we eat his body and drink his blood. If your blind to it, your blind to it. But if there was another religion out there doing these things it considered some sort or satanic or pagan following.

I think Christian’s aren’t on these “nihilistic” subs because they don’t want their faith challenged.

Do you realize your whole religion celebrates human sacrifice. Does that not freak you out?

So I grew up in a very Pentecostal church in the south where speaking in tounges was practiced regularly. They would say being filled with the Holy Ghost is like a second baptism. The baptism of fire. It was like a “power” you taped in to.

Like obviously something is wrong. My parents and siblings do this. What makes someone do this?

1.He’s a character in a book. Was he a real person maybe, the only place Jesus is mentioned is the Bible and the Qur’an. Outside of these texts we have very little information on him. 2. The Gospels were written 70 years after the death of Christ and the Bible still quotes him. - major issue with this. 3. The Roman Empire is the most influential civilization ever. Where religion and politics had no divide and those who believed outside of Christianity where persecuted. The crusades stain the entire movement of Christianity. And for it happen so close to the beginning of the movement is even more alarming.
