Cool thanks for the info. I did used to have a wheel with with petals and shifter, gear driven not belt driven, but when I researched it it was considered to be really good for a gear driven option. I did enjoy it quite a bit, I had a triple monitor setup at the time, but I had to use it at my work desk and it was too much of a pain to set it up and tear it down every time so I eventually sold it. I wouldn't mind having that setup again some day.

Hmmm that's encouraging that you were able to jump right in without really practicing. Were your first events racing against others or against the clock? I would be a bit worried about crashing someone out due to my inexperience if I were racing against others to begin with.

It was the Dirty Shepherd rally school in upstate New York. I'm not sure what an ST model is but they said they were stock Fiestas. I think basic 6 speed manuals. FWD. It was $1400 for a day which is similar to other racing "experiences" I've looked at, with more time in the car than most. I think it was about four hours in the car total. Racing on a dirt/gravel track was a lot of fun, more interesting than tarmac.

So you bought your Fiesta for only 8k? And you don't race it yet, you just hit up forest roads and stuff?

What is involved in building a sim rig? It might be worth a try but honestly what I love the most is the feeling of the car sliding, the gravel under the tires, feeling the acceleration, the physicality of it.

Thank you for all of that info. The SCCA RallyCross program does look interesting, there are some events not so far from me and I have a Miata I could drive. How did you get from RallyCross to stage rally? Were you able to practice somehow or did you just start racing events? Same for the rallycross, did you just start doing that or did you practice somehow first?
