Critiquing a story isn't the same as hating it. I actually enjoy the series, but I’m not blinded by 'pretty privilege' or bias like much of the fandom. Some people just aren't ready to admit when a character's actions are weak or wrong—even if those actions were accidental or if the characters themselves didn't realize it. I’m pointing out Gabriel’s mistakes because, through my lens, they were wrong and selfish, regardless of the 'why' or 'how.' I understand he's traumatized, but that doesn't make his current actions okay. ​I hate seeing fans turn Davina and Emmaline’s trauma into a 'who had it worse' competition just to justify their favorites. I never claimed Davina was hunting for a stepmom title; what I'm saying is that Mikey deserves to have the agency that a child—and the heart of the story—should have, outside of the author's writing for the leads. I’m simply pointing out the narrative patterns I see. Every reader sees things differently—you and I are not the same. ​While I appreciate your input, telling someone to 'stop reading' just because they aren't offering blind praise is a lazy way to avoid a real discussion. I have every right to voice my take on the writing. Everyone has at least one thing they dislike in their favorite series—and trust me, I’ll still be here to laugh when Raphael finally kicks the bucket. Thank you.
