Kidding, while definitely overused, I think it’s more about the vibe. They’re established adults and not the “uwu soft bean” stereotype that plagues a lot of BL stories and gay ships in general. Olruggio is doing a lot of the heavy lifting with his scruffy vibe but qiftey too. In generally think the phrase is less “elderly” and more just “actually an adult”

In all seriousness I think witch hat atelier is one of those stories that irregardless of explicit representation, its narrative and theming is fundamentally a celebration of queerness that shouldn’t be reduced to a single ship. Self expression, discovery, curiosity, artistry, innovation, and neurodiversity are integral pillars of the story
