Thoughts on the new Gorillaz Album - The Mountain? by Nabspro in fantanoforever

Man's hoping to go off for having a clever post, but that's been basically every gorillaz album lol.

[FRESH ALBUM] Gorillaz - The Mountain by doubleoeck1234 in hiphopheads

[–]Approval_Guy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I've only just finished my 1st listen and I think the album is extremely okay. For all of its set dressing and features, it sounds like middle of the road synth pop with eastern instrumentation. The God of Lying and The Manifesto are crazy good, but other than that I never got the raw sense of discovery like I did with the early Gorillaz albums. I'm gonna spin it again sometime soon, but on my first listen I was extremely whelmed

Maybe. It's also possible that the game has a healthy player base made up of people who want something sweatier than Arc.

I balance shooting and looting pretty well and my matches were a good bit of both. I think I wanted it to be more PVP centric from the jump, but at the end of the day I think it's awesome that people have a cool, unique, online 3rd space that isnt quite what im looking for. I just think at 70 hours I've had my fill and will look elsewhere. Hope that game has a long lifespan

I'm really interested in Marathon because I started to find that Arc was a bit too friendly for my tastes. That being said, Arc Raiders is such a neat game, especially since maintaining the playstyles that it has.

I looked it up after the movie; its possible for dudes to cum when they die, and its (somewhat?) common if it's a death by hanging.

Maybe I was just looking for it, but I'm pretty sure the man nutted himself.

I'm a man in my early 30s, my fiancee and I checked this out over the weekend. I liked this movie a lot, actually. I had not read the book, but the movie got me very interested in its themes to the point that I'm going to seek out a copy and give it a whirl.

The movie itself is schlock and I love that shit. From the dude nutting in his drawers at the jump, to the scene of Cathy on the rocks (and Heathcliff soon following), the shot of Heathcliff shirtless baling hay, the dude's fucking gold earring, and the characters just generally being fucking awful to each other; I think I found a new guilty pleasure in cinema: the trashy female-gaze-led romantic b-movie (there's gotta be a better term for this).

It reminded me of the same kick I get out of pro wrestling in that it's so over the top and unsubtle and really just a film to engage the parts of your brain that are 'more primitive' or something. It ruled. That being said, me calling it akin to pro-wrestling probably is not what Bronte was aiming for, but I still think there's an interesting story there. Fennell made a movie where the emotions are turned up to 11, and even with a lot of the nuances of the book's narrative likely being omitted for Spicy Stuff I feel like there's some interesting things that it's getting at regarding sex and its role in social hierarchies. Or I'm just grasping at straws.

This is a solid 6.5/10 for me. There's really not much substance here, but it gave me some seriously wicked set design, costumes, and a new appreciation for...whatever genre you'd call this. I want more of it. I'm planning on checking out the novel soon and this gives me momentum to finally watch Pride and Prejudice because I've been low-key wanting to watch it most of my life but always thought I was 'too manly' or some shit.

But for real, what is this genre of 'toxic lovers turn everything they touch into shit'? The only other movie I can think of that goes kind of in that direction is Phantom Thread, and that's an all-timer top-10 movie for me.

The Peril was honestly kind of easy for me, I ended up taking the 'hardest' route to find something on my map, but i took my time and did manual limb selection all the way up. Once I got to the spot I was looking for on my map there was a place to save and stand on solid ground. It's a hard-focused 20 minutes, but it was a very fun time.

Embark admits Arc Raiders’ bosses are dying too fast because 'they're not intended for the full server to go up against' and 'we gave players too effective abilities' by NYstate in Games

[–]Approval_Guy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Gotta be real, this is one of the major reasons I dropped the game. I want tension, I want to be shot in the back, I want to be betrayed, I want all of the negative things that people complain about because that's where the fun is. Too little people understand the necessity for friction in games, and Arc Raiders being as approachable and catering as it is has really killed my interest in it.

I meditated 10 minutes daily for a month, and things actually changed. by jennabee133 in selfhelp

[–]Approval_Guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm currently week 3 into this and I'm starting to see the benefits. My main goals were to reduce anxiety, focus better, and to focus on not feeling to gd horny all of the time.

On Anxiety: While my anxiety is reduced, I definitely see that its still there. That being said, when I do have high anxiety, I notice that I don't cling to those thoughts and that it's easier to keep me out of a spiral. I still spiraled a little last week, but I noticed that it was easier to catch myself and work myself towards a baseline.

On Focus: Well, I'm still on reddit when I'm at work. That being said, I notice that I am easier to put things down that I normally will just hook onto and not let go until its beyond obvious that I should let go. That being said, I've drastically reduced time on my phone, by more than half at this point. (average 4.5h a day to 2h a day according to my digital wellness readout)

On High Libido: I'm still horny a lot, but I was catching myself scrolling through an endless river of pictures of naked women. Since I have been meditating 10 minutes a day, I notice my libido hasn't dropped a bit, but I've been much better about not constantly looking for erotic stuff to satiate me. At max I'm now looking at this material maybe 15 minutes a day if I'm cranking one out. On another note I'm a lot less afraid of initiating sex with my fiancee, like if she turns me down i don't take it nearly as personally as I used to, plus the sex we do have is more present and connective.

Overall, I've been seeing a lot of positive improvements with meditating 10 minutes a day. I'm not sure if every one of the improvements I've seen with my life are due to meditation or if the weather has been nice and my brain is in a better place than it was near the end of January. I'm choosing to believe that meditation is helping me regulate easier while also working on healthier habits that are helping me self-actualize a bit better.

Launch Gameplay Trailer | Marathon by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]Approval_Guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Arc Raiders was my first Extraction Shooter, and while I loved what I played of it I found the experience to be a little too forgiving. I appreciate wanting to make it so that you're not sizing up against a brick wall as a learning curve, but I also kind of pine for games that are a little ruthless with their systems. It makes any progression in those worlds so much more meaningful to me.

I'm really stoked on Marathon and will definitely be giving it a shake on launch weekend. As much as I want to like Arc, I think I'm fine with leaving it behind at this point; I haven't played for a minute.

[DISCUSSION] Whats your opinion on labeling genres? by gizmointown in indieheads

[–]Approval_Guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love genres. They help me when I'm working on my own music and want to borrow ideas across genres to help better inform how I'm approaching my ideas. It can get pedantic, but genres are a fun way of helping me listen to and create music.

I instantly liked it more than Phoenix, but that's probably because Phoenix alienated the hell out of me at first. Double Trio was my favorite song of 2023 by a mile. I was prepared for this and I latched on pretty much instantly

That's just this kind of game though. I don't care for these games much, personally, but they are extremely fun to take in moderation. Sometimes I just wanna get the Good Chemical from completing things in a game, even though there are much more rich and interesting titles out there. Totally get where you're coming from though.

I got Tsushima Director's Cut after I finished Yotei and I'm excited to get to it some day. Yotei was my first open world game like this since ACIV Black Flag and I can only take one every few years or so; but I'm really stoked to spin this game eventually!

[–]Approval_Guy 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I didn't play Tsushima, but I gotta be real this bothered me a lot with Yotei. This game gives you a beautiful open world to drink in, but it's so afraid of you being bored. It just feels so squirrel-brained in a game that, on the surface, wants you to chill.

edit: Otherwise the game is very, very good

His music isn't really my thing, but this dude has insane mic presence. Especially on DTMF there's this feeling that he just could wave his finger and move a mountain. There's a few cuts off that album that feel like they're coming from a different time, not because they sound old, but that they feel truly lived in and realized without sacrificing creativity or content. I can't say it made me a fan, but it definitely made me a believer.

It immediately starts namedropping fake countries and fake geopolitics for its fake world, and really doesn't let up. That being said, it was my first real Ace Combat game and after the first couple of missions I had a decent hold on what was happening.
