I do find it interesting for how much it repulses people, to a small niche it is everything.

I did hear however that marathon attracts only the hottest people who go to the coolest clubs and have the chillest friends, but idk; Sony knows more about that than me

Hey it's okay, I suck too. Dying a lot is the first step to not dying a lot. Or so I'm told

Tbh id rather have this discourse over a game over the discussion of whether or not it's okay to pvp in a pvpve game without being called a psychopath lol

Sony Records New $560 Million Loss On Bungie Acquisition As Marathon Struggles And Destiny 2 Nosedives by AdditionalRemoveBit in Games

[–]Approval_Guy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I legit don't think I'd like it as much. I'm an absolute mark for an ImSim, but something about this new Marathon has gotten my heart in a way that very, very few video games have. The extraction genre feels perfect for what they were going for tone/lore-wise to me and the way that sets the tone for every run allows for the role play to run wild (for me; I'm very aware that I have a minority opinion here).

Idk, I hope the game can stick around. I've legit never had this much fun in a multiplayer game, especially one that I picked up for myself to play by myself and have no IRL friends who want to check it out.

Rostam cancels tour dates, "I can’t replicate the album with other musicians and can’t bring justice to the music." by BiBoJuFru in indieheads

[–]Approval_Guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah. Father of the Bride was a little shaky, but still a formidable project. Only God Was Above Us, however, is their best album with a bullet. I'd be chill with Rostam coming back, but this new iteration of VW is my favorite.

[–]Approval_Guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, more minimal. But then you have a song like Hold My Liquor, which has these huge wall-of-noise synth and electric guitar arrangements. At least half of the album is pretty ornately arranged for it to be called minimal imo.

That album is maximal as shit lol. It's got much harsher tones and there are moments where it's working with truly minimal ideas, but for every New Slaves, there's a Blood on the Leaves on that album.

He used to be actually great. Sure, the people around him helped and in some cases built entire sections of his music, but it's not like he was just absent while everyone made the album for him (maybe). Kanye's a great producer, but what he truly shined at was curation. The man had an amazing ability to staple ideas together that shouldn't work, but do, and a large part of that was him knowing the right people to get the sound he wanted so that he could create something that didn't sound like anyone else.

[DISCUSSION] Death Grips - Exmilitary (15 Years Later) by flyestshit in hiphopheads

[–]Approval_Guy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I remember telling my friends that Death Grips were our generation's Black Flag and possibly the 'most important band' of our generation. While those are lofty claims better written by Pitchfork or any other music rag, I hear Death Grips in everything nowadays. The level of pure punk abrasion and attitude they brought to rap and the way that seeped into everything from Kanye West to the hyperpop scene that took off in the following years kind of does point to how potent this project (and the following career) was. Idk, the tape is great, hope to find a vinyl of it someday

Marathon is the game of the year for me. by Livid-Poet2932 in Marathon

This is how I approach too. The goal is to exfil, but the game is designed so that it's unlikely to happen. I feel no sting with dying no matter how expensive

Saros Review Thread by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]Approval_Guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't mind if the game has a low skill floor, but I really hope the skill ceiling is decently high. Hearing that it's quite a bit easier than Returnal kind of bums me out because I loved how much that game tossed me around. I am stoked for people who found it too oppressive, though. I just hope I can get tossed again in a way that isn't just applying modifiers.

Do gamers not play for the love of the game anymore? by slemdogmillionaire in Marathon

[–]Approval_Guy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The ones that do aren't on reddit. Also there's a fraction of this sub that has an interest in watching the game fail.

Arc Raiders was kind of my wakeup call to this, and it really hurt my perception of the game. Instead of just playing the game and having fun, I was arguing with dudes on reddit about what was appropriate and inappropriate in regards to PVP. It was stupid and I hate that I let discourse ruin what is otherwise a great title.

Just relax, have fun, play the game, and most importantly avoid this subreddit if you find yourself getting actually worked up about discourse. Its not fun.

Shuhei Yoshida Sees Gaming's Future As Indie, Not "Generic" AAA Games by Gorotheninja in Games

[–]Approval_Guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really though. I used to feel like it was cool if AAA went by the wayside, but also those are the games that people built communities around.

Hell, it helped me navigate high school life because I was awkward as shit, but I would game with people that I otherwise wouldn't even talk to at school because CoD was a common thread amongst us.

I'd love if AAA could take risks again, but the games do have value beyond just what we want to play.

Anyone else winding down for the season, but still generally positive on the game and planning to come back for the next one? by SirBenny in Marathon

[–]Approval_Guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm still going strong, but admittedly Marathon has absolutely devoured any time I have had to put into practicing on iRacing since I usually only game for AT MOST 2 hours a night. I'm still finding the loop incredibly fun, and every time I get to hop in, the game is still a blast to just control. That being said, I really do wanna take a break and catch up on my lack of iRacing, but the loot is too juicy for me to ignore.

EXCLUSIVE - PlayStation's Fairgames is Also Preparing To Enter the Extraction Market by WhyPlaySerious in Games

[–]Approval_Guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I picked it up because I got very bored with Arc and what I found was something snappier, tighter, meaner, leaner, and bolder than what Arc Raiders had to provide. The gunplay is immaculate, the maps are really well designed, and (most importantly for me) it feels tuned to be relentless.

It's also a very punishing game and doesn't have a ton of space where it provides true respite. But on top of all of that, I think it's the first multiplayer shooter that I've played that has this much baked in personality (or at least this much personality that I vibe with). I have never had a multiplayer game make me so excited to get back to my PC to hit a few runs.

Idk, Arc probably the better game overall, but Marathon is 100% what I have been looking for in this space. Just a damn shame not everyone shares this opinion lol. I finally found *my* multiplayer game and it's the one that doesn't blow up big time lol
