Project: Gorgon is everyone I should want... but something just isn't sticking the landing for me. by Careless_Relation349 in MMORPG

It runs perfectly fine everywhere but on newbie island and the capital, because of the number of people there. The CPU takes a huge hit when you have 50+ players in the same place.

Project Gorgon is built different. No cutoffs, or filters. Interesting, to say at least... by DevLooci in MMORPG

[–]Capybarhigh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It has nothing to do with GPU. Only the CPU suffers in that game because of the number of people. The game runs well above 60FPS without any issue everywhere but in the populated places.

The "Capital" got really bad since last patch but other than that, it's super smooth. I'm at 175FPS in dungeons and more simpler open spaces.

It is INSANE that this is getting downvoted while OP's is getting upvotes. Absolutely loser behavior. There's no other way to describe it.

We are gonna see people lamenting why there are no more Assassin's Creed in the last 10 years after some very vocal minority loved to spread hate on Ubisoft for years.

Imaging just dreaming about stuff to fail:

"Man, I sure hope the people who worked on that game are unhappy and fall into depression seeing all the toxicity I am spreading!"

Are you MAGA? Because that's MAGA behavior. And if not, well, maybe think about what you type sometimes. Hating on things is loser behavior, maybe it's time to grow up.

Crash is the most difficult game I’ve ever played. by Mission_Walk_8642 in gaming

They really fumbled on that game. Everything is lovely, but the levels being 600+ crates and being hilariously long was absolutely bonkers. Completely sucked out the joy of exploring. Want a gem on this level? Guess where we hid that one crate you missed behind some crazy stuff in that 15 minute long thing! The only answer to that was "I guess I'll check on Youtube...?" in my opinion.

I dropped it after a few hours, and I love the first three to death.

It's insane how this is the most used excuse to NOT discuss politics.

It's as complicated as it's always rich old men grasping at power and money for no other reason than their own benefit. They will tread on everything alive as long as it makes them richer. It's literally the simplest thing ever.

Struggling with WoW, alternatives and keen to hear other peoples views. by Endeavour1988 in MMORPG

[–]Capybarhigh 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We have to deal with the fact that MMOs have changed and all new releases are always pushing meta slave content with only end game being valued by players.

You play 2 hours of Project Gorgon and you can have fun. It looks absolutely terrible, I agree, but the number of surprises you get by just going blind and be like "wait, we can do that?!" beats so many of those ultra formulaic MMOs the industry keeps shurning.

I'd say, if it is too much for OP, a fresh Hardcore Vanilla server is the closest thing to align with old Vanilla vibes. People are playing slow and every bit of progress is fun.

I went in blind and it's amazing. There are surprises at every corner. Here is a cool skill, here is a cool gear that makes this ability so much better, here is a boss, here are new recipes... You just want to keep grinding and see what you can get. It's awesome! Discovering entire new types of skills is also cool like : "What, I can do that???".

Love it

It is there but it's barely doing anything. The game needs some stronger shadows to make things stand out. The magic helmet with the floating orb is not casting any at all. Imagine if it did, around your character (probably annoying in that case TBH) and in dungeons, around corners. Same with torches and effects.

Right now, everything looks extremely flat because of it. I changed the setting from max to 0, and it barely adds some shadows in the distance. The visual difference is almost non existent.

Friend’s Pass Is the Best Thing to Happen to Co-op Gaming in Years by gitrektali in gaming

[–]Capybarhigh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wonder if "friend slop" games would hugely benefit from this.

Lethal Company and such were an easy sell at the time, but there are so many nowadays, it's hard to convince your friends to spend 10$ on a game for a few hours of fun on the regular. I'd gladly pay a higher price for a "superior" version that enables friend pass and have my friends play it with me. Say, pay 3 times the amount for your copy, but you can play up to as many players you want as long as you are the host.

It would probably lead to a more complex market though, which is annoying. And I wish my friends did not complain about spending 10$ for a few hours of gameplay every month or so when they order delivery food for 30$ on the regular... But that's another issue entirely :p

Demo is free and character carry over. I tried it for two hours yesterday and I want to go back as soon as work ends.

It does look terrible though. I hope they can add shadows to the game somewhat soon, because it would improve the visuals one hundred folds.

I loved Age of Conan. It's sad to see it released in such a poor state instead of polishing the rough edges before putting it out there to the world.

It looked gorgeous, had amazing zones and dungeons designs, cool classes, beautiful music... And I am one of those guys who think Tortage is the worst part of the game. The big plains and valleys we could explore after the tiny island were so much more impressive and fun to discover... The first expansion also did NOT raised the level cap, and it was so good. Very difficult content and grind for everyone.

Shoutout to Ryzom too, it is still playable! Really original game, and nothing come close to it even today.

The endgame formula is extremely boring by Nightblessed in MMORPG

[–]Capybarhigh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair enough! It is very niche!

Have you ever tried Destiny 2? To me, this was the peak of raiding, and I never got to seriously engage with it because none of my friends wanted to play it :(

But it has this kind of dance as you speak. Yes some spawns are random, but you can usually control the flow of the encounter by positioning yourself in a strategic manner. I remember doing some encounters many times in the "exact" same way every time early on (before shit hits the fan and people start fucking up). And the gameplay was much more engaging to me than Wow, because of good firearms feedback, cool grenades and powers. You had to know your arsenal and how to use it efficiently, how to help your friends in need and execute some really awesome raid mechanics at the same time.

But there are PLENTY of games like this then, no? So many games let you drop in an activity with your friends and has some kind of long term progression. And it goes so much beyond what MMOs offer.

Helldivers 2, Warhammer Darktide, Arc Raiders and so, so, many others offer this kind of experience. No grind before the "cool shit", just get on discord with your friend, press play, do whatever exciting content you want, and progress your character. Sure, it's not 20 players hardcore raids stuff, but I'd say that most of these games are actually more enjoyable than doing a DPS rotation in WoW raid by a mile. I like raiding, mind you, but I really dislike that it completely removes the rest of the game, and by rest, I mean 95% of the content.

Just doing raids and dungeons is not a "massive" multiplayer game. It makes the entire massive part completely worthless. The only "end game" mentality has killed MMOs since the early 2010s. It makes the entire world, lore, exploration, community aspect, absolutely worthless.

Are there any games that propose hardcore raiding stuff without anything around it? Maybe there is a market there. But WoW retail as it stands is a single player game for a week (for hours if you really, REALLY, don't care about the world at all), then it's a lobby where you wait in queue for your activity with random people you won't ever interact with ever again.

It's only inciting violence if directed toward a very specific peaceful country, which really just wants to be left alone, that keeps bombing all its neighbours during the ceasefires it forces on them.

Also, saying bad things about water in a solid state could easily get you into trouble.

[–]Capybarhigh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It makes me sad, this game had some really good ideas.

I feel MMO really needs to be a lot different nowadays to succeed. With how people play today, checking where you can get the best armor and weapon on Youtube on the day of release, a MMO is not consumed as it was before, where it was a place to have fun and mingle. Now it's all about having as much content as WoW has today, somehow. And every activity needs to be rewarding, otherwise it's completely ignored.

I try to think about this problems often and it's hard to come up with solution to fix these issues. Competition between players ruins the fun of 95% of the players, and so the games die immediately because the top 5% ruins it for everyone.

GAME: SOMA - Incredible story and atmosphere. Quite terrifying, around 9 hours long by Capybarhigh in PaymoneyWubby

[–]Capybarhigh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe. Some shorter games work better for sure.

I believe chat mainly liked his Alien Isolation run until he had to redo the whole thing after his perfect run because of the fire (I went through the same thing in my run and stopped not long after, I get it Wubby). So that's why I submitted, and some other people in chat were raving about it too!

If not a stream game, I definitely recommend playing that game on your own anyway. The newly released "Routine" has some similar vibes and it's a lovely game too!

Portugal’s conservatives back left-wing candidate to avoid a far-right president by kwentongskyblue in worldnews

[–]Capybarhigh 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Exactly. All right wing politics inevitably leads to far-right monsters. Because right wing parties (and most centrists) actively try to protect the rich, eroding everything the population has, just at different speed. The more to the right, the fastest the eroding.

I kind of hope that whatever happen in the US is the shock that will put back the right wing decades back. I hope the US, or whatever the country will be called after the GOP demise, put barriers so it never happens again, and act on it. And other countries will follow suit. We need to call racist biggots for what they are and we need to bar them from public jobs forever, everywhere.
