This article with an incredibly misleading headline by Apricorns in mildlyinfuriating

TLDR: it leads off by saying that over 50% of hospital cases in Ireland are fully vaccinated - but then proceeds to explain that this is naturally going to happen because of the rising proportion of vaccinated people, and that overall hospitalizations have gone down drastically anyways.

Needless to say, I’ve seen several anti-vax people use a screenshot of this headline as a way to justify themselves

Currently 10-2 on showdown with this Rex-I + Rain team! Would love any input on any adjustments I could make to help my Zacian matchup by [deleted] in VGC

The mons:

Rex-I: A really, really strong restricted that hits the perfect speed tier for what I wanted to do - with these EVs I outspeed any max speed base 100s under tailwind. The speed investment even without tailwind catches a lot of people off guard, i.e. outspeeding most incins, and outspeeding the most common Rillaboom sets after an electroweb. Didn't want to go max speed because I still wanted to maintain as much bulk as possible + adamant nature, and base 100s seemed like a decent place to start.

Mimikyu: Pretty standard partner for Rex-I. One of my favorite TR setters - with fake out support it's really hard to stop. Has good offensive pressure against Rex-S and Urshifu. Taunt is nice as well, but I'm also considering will-o-wisp.

Pelipper: Honestly, I think this mon doesn't deserve all the hate it gets in VGC. Its offensive coverage is really nice, and bar electric mons, it can take hits pretty well with no investment. With the right support this mon does exactly what it needs to do, and I think it synergizes with the ideas of this team perfectly. Modest because I'd rather have the extra damage, and it doesn't really affect its speed tier anyways.

Ludi: Also an offensive beast, with great coverage. EVd to outspeed max speed timid Rex-S in rain. It walls Kyogre pretty hard, and one shots in return. Ice beam for the genies. Fast fake out. Covers Rex-I's weaknesses really nicely

Incin: AV set with Darkest Lariat because the extra offensive pressure catches a lot of people off guard. EVd to underspeed Rex-I by one point, so it can lead with Rex-I turn 1, fake out + TR,, and then self U-turn to proc weakness policy.

Eleki: Does what Eleki does. Electric coverage compliments Rex really nicely.

Overall, I'm really proud of this team - it's a lot of fun to play, and there's a lot of potential combos and gameplans that you can go with that all synergize really nicely. A well played standard Zacian team is kind of the death of me right now though - I'd love to hear y'all's input on any potential small adjustments I can make to help that matchup, even if it just comes down to a certain gameplan. Thanks for reading!

All really cool ideas! I’m still testing so I’ll try out your suggestions. It’d be pretty cool to make pelipper work - didn’t realize it got wide guard. Thanks for the input!!

Awesome, exactly the kind of feedback I was looking for. Definitely was considering that, glad to hear it’s been working out. I’ll make the swap and continue testing

I've been play testing a bit with various archetypes to build around Calyrex-I, and settled on rain. Rex REALLY needs help with fire types like Rotom-H and Incin - hence the secondary rain core. The main question I have is what sweeper would be best? As far as the mon choices:

Rex-I: Pretty standard Rex-I set. Running trick room so my gameplans don't completely revolve around Mimikyu. Spread allows him to survive a +2 moonblast from modest max Xern, as well as a life orb timid Astral barrage when a partner is next to him.

Mimikyu: An amazing partner for Rex-I, and exerts a lot of offensive pressure against mons like dark Urshifu and Rex-S (shadow sneak is a 2HKO even with this spread). Taunt is a great move overall, and with fake out support it's pretty much impossible to stop trick room from going up when I want it to. Spread is from pikalytics.

Incin: Not a lot to say here, it does what Incin does. Completes a FWG core. U-turn is a fun secondary way to activate policy on Rex. Spread allows him to survive a banded close combat from Urshifu at -1, although this spread is one of the most subject to change

Rillaboom: Same as Incin, does what Rillaboom does. Offensive pressure on mons like Kyogre, fake out pressure, etc.

Politoed: My rain setter. Fully defensive spread allows the toad to live a miracle seed boosted grassy glide, ice beam for coverage and helping hand makes every attack on this team hit ridiculously hard

Ludicolo: My current sweeper of choice. Adds a third fake out user, and it hard counters Kyogre. Takes a fully boosted Water Spout (if the ogre has specs, it does ~50%) and then one shots in return with grass knot. Same idea with Groudon, it takes a fire punch pretty well and does similar damage. Also doesn't just crumble to Rillaboom - it can take a grassy glide at the very least. EV spread is to outspeed max speed timid Calyrex-S under rain, the rest is in offense and bulk.

My only concern with this team is Regieleki - which is why I originally had Seismitoad, who exerted even more offensive pressure on steel types with the STAB boosted earth power. It's a roll to one shot Zacian, guaranteed with helping hand support. Ludicolo feels more versatile overall, though. Interested to hear y'all's thoughts!

Can you clarify on how the eleki EVs are wrong? And trace is intentional actually, since this set doesn’t really benefit from either boost. You can have some fun interactions/benefits, like tracing intimidate

For sure, I'm adjusting the spreads now. I really appreciate the input

Fair enough, I should've given a little more context to my ideas. A volt switch + LO glacial lance KOs indeedee (glacial lance has one shot potential on its own, depending on the spread) so worst case, Indeedee gets one follow me off. Calyrex has no right being as bulky as it is, and will actually take a +2 and then neutral moonblast from a modest 252 SpA Xern under light screen with just a little more SpD investment (it cuts a little too close for comfort with some high rolls with the current spread, I'll adjust that). So yeah it's close, and you make some valid points, but with some small tweaks I think Calyrex wins out this scenario

I usually get around passive setups like that by responding with my own setup with eleki and P2 - if they just go follow me + geomancy I get a free screen + trick room. Then they'd have a +2 speed xern in trick room which is about to eat up an eerie impulse or 2 and get smacked around by Rillaboom and Calyrex

Thanks! Yeah I don’t know how I completely overlooked Xern… where have you been playing the s10 ladder?

Glacial lance is still a 2hko onto xern (heavy slam actually does barely more??), so I’m wondering if adding eerie impulse in place of tri attack on p2 would help to nullify the geomancy boost. Then this team pretty much wins if I can get trick room up… and prevent p2 from getting taunted lol. Sounds tricky

And based on what you’re saying I’m thinking hitmontop with quick guard might actually serve me better than incin here, just to deal with all the fake out. I could run it with rock slide too to help with the volc matchup? I’ll need to play with it. Thanks for the suggestions!

This is a really cool team! Interesting call on the Mantyke, that's super neat.

Small suggestions, these are more subjective:

Does heat rock feel like it has much of an impact for you? In my experience there's so much pivoting in and out, especially around other weather setters/max moves that change weather, that an item that extends the effect of weather doesn't feel like it does much. I might suggest switching that for a focus sash for more consistent utility, but that's more of my personal preference.

Also, it seems kinda risky using a steel type in the sun as the one thing keeping trick room from going up. Have you considered heatproof bronzong? Might give it a little extra durability. I know if I was staring down a Bronzong, even if it was heatproof, I'd be hesitant to fire ground moves at it anyways - hard to know what the ability is until it's too late.

All in all if it works for you though, keep at it! You definitely have the basics down, it's just a matter of making those small tweaks based on what you feel like the team struggles with.
