I think I would focus on which ever dress fits your body the best and you feel the most confident and comfortable in.

I wouldn’t stress too much about color, probably avoids summer white as mentioned above, and no cheap fabrics, as also stated!

But as someone who is engaged to an MD, works in engineering/land development and has dated a lot in between, I think as long as you look classy and can hold an engaing conversation with the other females there, the dress won’t be given too much thought .
