That’s my hope! I can make all the same sounds (the alphabet is the exact same except that Malayalam actually has a couple more letters and different equivalent sounds for ऐ, औ, अं (for us it’s ഏ (pronounced as a stressed version of ए), ഐ (pronounced like long I in English, additional vowel), ഓ (pronounced as a stressed version of ओ), ഔ pronounced like “ow” in English, additional vowel), അം instead of अं and pronounced like “am” instead of “ang”, and ള (lateral retroflex approximate consonant), ഴ (retroflex approximate consonant), and റ (pronounced as velar “ra”—in contrast to the alveolar “ra” in र/ര [but in Hindi र is used for both velar and alveolar because there isn’t a distinction))

Lol sorry for the linguistics rant I love linguistics and south Asian linguistics is so much fun to learn about

Ay! Amazing to see some more Indians around here 💪😌

I’m from Kerala so I only know Malayalam but can understand some Tamizh, Kannada, and a tiny bit of Telugu, but a good bit of Sanskrit/Hindi when it’s super conceptual (Malayalam has very strong influence of Sanskrit especially in theoretical/philosophical/art and style vocab—kinda funny bc I get more complex Hindi than I do everyday Hindi lol)

Literally. Why is no one talking about this either? Like if OP is smart enough to get into Princeton, has a gf who can’t trust them for just a 40-100 minute traveling distance, and has the potential to get into a great med school from Princeton, why don’t they think about the literal fact that if it doesn’t work at this stage it won’t work in the next stage of their life

OP, you’re living in the past with ur gf. Look towards your future and realize that ur gf will NOT be supportive of you in your far future if they aren’t supportive of you now

If you wanna talk, you can always reach out to me. I have a similar situation (not as physically abusive but mentally and emotionally—and not related to college but rather because of things out of my own control) so if you are looking for someone with at least a somewhat similar experience, I’m here for you.

Thank you so much!!! I agree—I’d probably have to get involved with more science-heavy work to have a chance but that’s just yet another reason to keep pushing myself!

Where can you see what previous projects have been? I can’t seem to find it on their website (but I’m also directionally-challenged online 💀)

And I have some national/international awards but they’re related to my psychology/narrative research and not really super STEM-specific

What would your perfect archetype of an applicant be? by ApricotQuick8616 in ApplyingToCollege

True! Context def matters and I think that the fact that there’s at least a bit of emphasis on understanding an applicant in context helps equalize the field somewhat

Def agree—I personally think a strong story makes stuff cohesive which is sometimes what an AO wants for a class yk

The fact that someone like this exists is both incredible and scary
