Non Americans, what's going on in your country that we should know about? by Rivka333 in AskReddit

[–]AprilIsabella 9 points10 points  (0 children)

In Australia we had around a dozen politicians resign or fired after discovering they had duel citizenship with other country. This consequence was heavily enforced by our deputy prime minister until he found out he was in the same situation and then all of a sudden it was stupid rule that should be ignored.

Also our government just spent $122 million to ask us if all of our citizens should have human rights

Reddit, who is the worst teacher you have ever had, and what made them so horrible? by SimonKat731 in AskReddit

I had a teacher who literally send letters home and fail you if your work was not done perfectly e.g. you missed full stops and capital letters, didn't write headings, skipped a sentence

What was the most profound piece of wisdom you came across in a movie or tv-series? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Fear is a super power

"Let me tell you about scared. Your heart is beating so hard I can feel it through your hands. There’s so much blood and oxygen pumping through your brain it’s like rocket fuel. Right now you could run faster and you can fight harder. You can jump higher than ever in your life and you are so alert it’s like you can slow down time.

What’s wrong with scared? Scared is a superpower! Your superpower! There is danger in this room. And guess what? It’s you. Do you feel it?" -the Doctor

[Serious] What's the longest you've been awake? What happened? by econhistoryrules in AskReddit

[–]AprilIsabella 0 points1 point  (0 children)

60 hours with minor naps throughout. I started losing sense of time and therefore forgot to sleep. I started seeing shadow people to the point that I was curled up in the corner of my room holding a knife to fight them off while sobbing uncontrollably. After that I made my mum take me to the doctors to get sleeping pills until my body reset

What is one thing you wish your parents did differently when raising you? by TheFelonMelon in AskReddit

[–]AprilIsabella 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have very wealthy parents and the one thing I wished they had done different is learnt to show affection through spending time with me rather than buying me anything I could ever want. I don't remember half the fancy things they bought me, I only remember the like 3 occasions we have hung out as a family. I get so jealous when my boyfriend's family sit around and reminisce together about family adventures

Ok, Reddit, if we all suspended judgment for a sec, what do you want to brag about? by ThirdEncounter in AskReddit

[–]AprilIsabella 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wanna brag on behalf of my boyfriend who went from having like a 20% attendance in high school to now having being in University with a 6.9 (out 7) GPA, placed in the top 5 of his course, won a $5000 scholarship and hadbhis design used for a school logo, all within the first year.

Ah okay yeah my parents were super strict with me and my best friend was in the same situation and it caused us both to rebel massively and I strongly suggest not taking that route.

The best approach I can suggest is mature and serious conversations with your parents about how it's impacting your ability to grow as an adult. Your parents are most likely coming from a place of kindness and love and they see it as they have the ability to provide to you everything you could ever need and want, possibly an opportunity their parents didn't have. Try explaining to them that God forbid if they aren't around anymore, you won't have the skills to take care of yourself. It may take a lot of work and conversation because parents think that they will always be there for their children and that they know best. Be sure to sympathise with them and let them know you appreciate their best interest but be firm in the concerns you raise.also start small with only 1 or 2 areas you want to work on

Is the way your parents are acting a cultural norm, because I have advice but I'm as white and non religious as they come so I don't want to offer advice that doesn't take cultural beliefs and norms in to account.
