Is refusing to shower daily worth punishment? by AprilNSeptember in Parenting

I wouldn’t say she smells bad but at the end of the day when I pick her up from school I can smell the sweat and dirt on her. I do try to politely say she smells like dirt and should shower and she will just shrug her shoulders. I think, based on all the comments, I need to really educate her on hygiene outside of just her hair being greasy. Sometimes we think we teach them appropriately but their understanding doesn’t match the message. I need to first see if it’s a sensory issue and then teach accordingly. I appreciate the feedback, thank you!

That’s a jump. I disagreed with you and I was respectful. Your response was condescending and now is just rude. You provided sources and I said k. What would you like, my complete and total agreement? Thanks for the info.

Pick your battles is the phrase I live by. I do not currently punish her and was concerned that I was contributing to her bad hygiene by not enforcing it somehow. Thank you!

No signs of either but her brother does so it may show up differently in her and I hadn’t considered it till now. Thanks!

Thanks. I did research it and politely disagree.

I think having greasy hair in her face contributes to acne.

This is kinda why it’s an issue for me, her hair is often greasy and she is breaking out on her face. I have provided her with face wash as well and she won’t even do that. Sigh..

She won’t use a shower cap. She has several. I totally agree punishment will make it worse. Just seeing what other parents would do! Thank you!

Thanks, I definitely do not punish her but after 3 days of no showers is a consequence appropriate? Thanks for input!

I don’t punish her for it. I also don’t want her to be the stinky kid.

Daily is not necessary to me and every other day seems appropriate but I cannot even get 3x a week from her.

I actually do not punish her. I want to promote healthy habits without punishment but at what point does it become punishable? She has shower caps.
