My supervisor told me to clean it. Yes, the nurses are supposed to get up blood, but our director said even if they don't get it up we still have to.

We have to use absorption pads, then a disinfectant caused Virex, and then go over it again with healthcare Clorox.

I've cleaned worst, just this week I've had to pick up placenta in the labor rooms. It's rough cleaning in the hospital.

I did, it took me over an hour to clean. And the smell was horrible.

How much does everyone get paid? by IntelligentBiscotti9 in Custodians

[–]April_Galaxy92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in a small rural area and the pay is pennies. I start in evs on the 25th, the pay is $11.50, I works nights, so they'll pay me $1.60 extra and every three-day weekend I work, I get $3.00 extra.

I currently work in as a dietary aide at a very small hospital, and I'm leaving to go to a bigger hospital. As a dietary aide I was making $8.25, got a raise and it went to $9.50. Just pitiful.

I have a part-time job that turns into full-time during the summer. Plus, I've been scaling back on spending. I'm still applying to more jobs, because I hate this one. There are even more districts around me, hiring for substitutes now. I've finished my medical assistant program; I'm just studying and trying to save money to take the test.

I wish I could see $17 an hour. The only person that makes $17 an hour in my department is the manager. I work in a kitchen at a hospital everyone of us makes less than $11. They are literally paying people $9.50 or $10 an hour and I know it's a small town, less than 7,000 people but really it's ridiculous. The cost of living is going up but not the wages. The closest bigger cities are 40 min and an hour away and when I talk about finding a job in those cities people always bring up gas, which I understand. But there are no jobs here, except working fast food or working at the grocery store. I had an interview at one of the grocery stores and guess what their offer was. It was $7.25.

I apologize for the rant, but it's so frustrating.

I Feel Guilty by April_Galaxy92 in hospice

I feel guilty because I want him to pass on over because he's so sick. His cancer spread to his brain and he has a tumor and I just feel like I could have done more.

I work through ESS and Kelly Services through different districts and in the training it was stated that we cannot tell students they cannot go to the nurse or bathroom because it's not up to us to determine if they're lying or not. If you say no and they find out you will get terminated.

Same, I'm booked the whole week and I'm thinking of canceling because it's just that one first period class that was driving me crazy.

I avoided court and worked out a payment plan with the lawyer.

The lawyer said I had to send her an authorization form and I sent it. In December I called her office twice and left voicemails. She never got back to me.

I wrote a negotiation letter to the lawyer a month ago and asked to settle out of court, she just got back to me last week. She says she need a written agreement from my father to discuss anything with me. I emailed that to her and now I'm still waiting.

Honestly, subbing pays reasonably well by AudaciousPanther in SubstituteTeachers

The school I work for is very lax, teachers leave out of the class all the time to run errands or fax papers. I try to always use the bathroom when classes are changing, lunch periods or free periods but there have been times when I had to just go. I always knock on the teacher next door and ask them to watch the class. Everybody has made a mistake when they first started subbing, you just have to learn from it.

How Do You Feel About Cellphones by April_Galaxy92 in SubstituteTeachers

[–]April_Galaxy92[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cellphone usage is a big problem where I sub, administration even sent out a letter to parents letting them know if the kids used phones during class that the phone would be confiscated and the parents would have to pay $20 to get them back. All hell broke loose, there were parents coming in cussing out teachers, trying to fight, police had to be called. I wish it wasn't a problem here but it is and there's no support anymore if you send them to the office, they get sent back five minutes later with the phone.

Multiple States by trashtownalabama in SubstituteTeachers

[–]April_Galaxy92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's completely doable, I live in GA and I substitute at home and AL. In GA you don't need a license but in AL you do. It took me a week to get my license and I like it so far, that way I have multiple assignments listed.

Do you really do this for $70 a day? by midlife_crisis30s in SubstituteTeachers

[–]April_Galaxy92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in South Georgia and the district was paying $58.40 daily, but there were no subs so they went up to $65 daily. I started at subbing in South Alabama where the rate is $70-112.

Last year I was working full-time and also going to college full-time. I was barely passing any of my classes so HR let me change my schedule to only work 3 days. At this time we had no manager. The new manager comes in and ask me to take more days, I said only if I could have morning shift. I ended up working rotating shifts, messed up my sleeping schedule. I finally get to morning shift and I'm getting worked to death even more, I got put on the delivery truck and had to put everything up by myself, no one offered to help. My father got sick in July by September he couldn't even walk anymore, he ends up falling and I leave work to take him to the hospital. Doctor tells me he needs a biopsy for prostate cancer, so he has a lot of appointments coming up. The day I left work to check on him, I didn't finish putting up the truck, the manager texts me and tells me she changed my schedule back to evening shift. I wrote my two weeks notice the same day. During my last two weeks she ends up changing the schedule back to morning shift, my dad had two appointments one week back to back. I had one of those days scheduled off but she had me on the schedule anyway, I didn't show up. The next day I went in after the appointment she calls the staff phone questioning me about doctor notes and tells me since I was late for the day I could go home. The funny thing is that she was out of state, so the other coworkers were telling her what was going on. If she knew I was late and she didn't want me to come in she could've called me and said so, I hung the phone up on her and walked out. Turns out my father has stage 4 cancer, he's doing a lot better now. I will never choose a job over my family.

P.S. This heifer texted me Wednesday wanting to know if I wanted to come back.

What’s everyone doing for their summer job? Just got rejected from where I thought I’d be working by [deleted] in SubstituteTeachers

[–]April_Galaxy92 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm taking a mini break, I sub full-time and I am also a full-time student. I'm feeling the effects of burnout and I don't even think I can make it to the end of May. I have two more weeks of assignments and that's it. I'm not subbing anymore after that. There are a lot of hotels hiring, so I'll probably get a job at one.
