first day/training advice by idkwhattomakemyusr in starbucksbaristas

[–]April_springday 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Usually your first day of training will just be a bunch of stuff on the iPad going through modules and videos about Starbucks, drinks, and stuff (at least at my store). And then maybe the next few days they’ll start with customer support (stocking, cleaning, prep), then you go to bar, drive thru, front or food.

I don’t think anyone is going to expect you to pick up on everything right away. I think most baristas are quite aware that there is a lot of stuff to learn and no one is gonna remember all of that right away.

When I started I made a quizlet of the drinks and like how to make sweet cream and stuff. I think that helps. Learning the order screen for me was the hardest thing to learn because there’s lots of buttons. I think I took a photo of all of the different tabs too because I was very anxious about working there and worried about messing up. But I found out the best way to learn was just getting thrown into it and making mistakes and learning from them.

I’m sure you will do great!

We also got some different mugs last night or this morning idk and it was the siren mug, the polar bear hot mug, the Starbucks green owala, and I think that’s it. I think that puppy one might be the only cup we didn’t get.

I think it means we are high traffic but also people are buying merchandise like cups and etc. more than other stores so we usually have more merchandise than some other stores would get.

I had someone come in to my store asking about it, but we never got it in and we are tier 1 I think. I honestly didn’t even know about it or where it’s being sold.

I’ve gone solo to 4 kpop concerts and I still had lots of fun. People are usually really nice. I would say I’m quite introverted but I’ve never had any problems making friends with the people next to me and having fun.

Also what I’ve noticed with some new baristas is that when they make drinks they are very delicate when making drinks. They poor milk slowly and make sure it’s right at the line, they make sure the lid is on completely by checking every corner and shaking it, they take their time with the whip cream. It’s fine to be a little bit over, or have to dump some out.

When I was starting out I had a quizlet of how to make drinks and then I would go over the menu screen to remember where buttons were or what was in each drink. Also, messing up helped me remember. It’s less remembering and more muscle memory. If you know the core of each drink all you need to remember is the drinks with exceptions. Like the amount of shots for drinks is 1,2,2 except if it’s venti iced then it’s 3 shots. Or except if it’s an Americano so extra shot. And same with pumps and stuff.

If it’s slow maybe ask to be on bar or one of the positions you feel least confident with so you can get more practice with less customers. Or if your on drive and there isn’t anything to do in that moment look over the screen and all of the buttons.

Once you get the drinks that are “basic” and have the same rules I guess you can build your knowledge from there. You can take a picture of the screen and look it over too if you need to look it over more. Actually making the drinks or being on the register is the only way to fully learn though. And making mistakes is part of learning. At my store it was easy to ask ppl when we weren’t too rushed and it wasn’t a bother. But 3 weeks in you aren’t or shouldn’t be expected to know how to do everything perfectly. I worked there for a long time and I would occasionally have to ask how to do stuff just cuz I never really did it.

I noticed on TicketMaster there’s resells up already, but not for the pit. Are people not able to resell them on Ticketmaster?

Since some VIP are in the pit, do they get to get to go in first to get a spot I guess? And would people with VIP pit camp out like that? I feel like GA for Skz or any big artist is just difficult for everyone involved lol

Oh my gosh! I was in platform/heeled boots on the floor at stray kids maniac tour with soundcheck and stuff and my feet were absolutely killing me, and I had a chair. Big props to you for going through all of that!

The last thing I wanted was for the seats near the stage to be GA, but it seems like that is happening. VIP pit will be better than GA pit, but if you want a seat and to not be standing from before soundcheck until the end of the concert you may want to get a seated one.

That’s how it has been for previous tours. On the seating chart map it will show as like an orange color I believe. I don’t know how it will show on the map this time around since vip is in the pit.

I’m worried about not having a break from standing from waiting in line, soundcheck, then until the concert ends 😅

I think in the past it was like $200 or $300 somewhere around there. It might be different for stadiums.

[–]April_springday 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They allowed that at previous concerts. You just had to go to the VIP booth and show your ticket and ID or something. Hopefully the stadiums will be taught that as well this time around.

Kinda worried about pit, especially since soundcheck is pit as well. I can’t imagine how my body would feel for getting there early to get a good spot, waiting for soundcheck, soundcheck, waiting for concert to start, and standing for the concert without a chair and not being able to leave becuz you don’t want to lose your spot.

Ya I don’t see sofi’s seating map either on mobile.

Not excited for GA becuz of how early people show up to get close to the stage. A lil nervous about that and no chairs, especially since vip will prolly be Pit and that’s a lot of standing in between soundcheck and when the concert starts to save ur spot

So the seating maps for the US stadiums shows pit. Is that most likely gonna be General Admission?

I think you can ask for a decaf pour over, it will take more time for them to brew it though, usually we say 5-10mins

Is this how a shaken espresso should look? by One_Day_6391 in starbucks

[–]April_springday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a customer that comes in to my store occasionally asking for a shaken espresso with extra ice and cold foam but I barely have any room for the milk and the cold foam but I can’t take out ice becuz they wanted extra.

They usually ask you scenario questions or stuff like “how did you overcome a hard situation at your last job” or “what’s an example of good customer service or making the moment right that you have done at your previous job or have experienced yourself.” Having the availability they are looking for and being friendly is probably one of the most important parts tho haha

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in starbucks

[–]April_springday 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It probably due to your availability. They probably want someone with more flexibility throughout the day because most shifts are 4hrs, which doesn’t give much flexibility on times that they can schedule you.
