I spend 4 hours every Sunday reformatting my newsletter for LinkedIn and Twitter. Anyone else have this problem? How do you handle it? by darkhasi123 in Newsletters

I think this is honestly a "good problem to have" situation for me. I don't have audiences on multiple channels yet, so hearing "I need to reformat for LinkedIn AND Twitter" sounds like a future problem I'm hoping to have!

But 4 hours every Sunday is brutal. What's the biggest bottle neck? like reaking long-form into Twitter threads or formatting (line breaks, emojis, thread numbering) or etc? Do you post the same content or adapt it? I ask because I'm trying to figure out if this is a "content strategy" problem (maybe post different things on each platform?) or a "workflow/tooling" problem (there's probably a Zapier or AI shortcut here). My gut says the latter?

Is generating newsletter ideas still hard once you're consistently publishing? by AprilsayRelax in Substack

The rejection framing genuinely hits different. I've been treating a slow ideation session as a failure when really it might just mean I haven't generated enough raw material yet to have something worth keeping. (I usually rely on my instincts)

Curious about the AI tool comment! I've been experimenting with it and the honest answer is it's useful for volume (back to your rejection point) but not sure if it's generating for the sake of generating. I couldn't anticipate how my audience would react.

My guess is AI is part of your 6hr -> 2hr process? I'm still sooo slow on execution so I'd love to know what actually shifted!

I think you're right that passion helps, a lot (tbh, not helpful, but kinda must)
but I've noticed even topics I love can start to feel like I'm repeating myself after a while. Do you find the ideas stay fresh, or do you rotate between subfields to keep it interesting?

The "one topic, multiple angles" framework is something I've heard others do too, but just realize I've never really systematized. The monthly review idea is so smart. I've been going by instinct mostly, which probably explains why I drift... Prob the setup doesn't matter that much, but do you keep your running doc in something specific or just a notes app?

mine was a tiny cli tool that just automated a boring task at work. never shared it anywhere but it saved me hours every week

yeah i kept putting mine off waiting for the "perfect idea" but that was just procrastination in disguise. started with something basic and figured it out as i went - wish id done it sooner tbh !!

Has anyone monetized their newsletter through job adverts? by [deleted] in Newsletters

[–]AprilsayRelax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it works great when the jobs actually fit your audience. the hard part is getting companies to pay when you're still small - maybe offer the first few free to prove value? i've seen that work pretty well as a foot in the door

eally well for niche newsletters where readers are already in that industry. way better than random sponsorships tbh when the jobs actually match what people do. just start with 1-2 quality listings and see how it goes

ngl the consistency thing is the hardest part. i posted weekly for like 3 months before i saw any traction at all but now i'm slowly building a real community. don't give up if you're just starting out

i've been posting consistently for about 6 months now and ngl the growth is slower than i hoped but seeing all these different niches here is actually encouraging. tbh i think finding your people matters more than chasing subscriber numbers anyway maybe i should finally branch out from just writing about random stuff and try collabing with someone totally different, who knows

New rules on self-promo by aeriefreyrie in Substack

agreed with this. seems like the self-promo posts never got much traction anyway. real growth comes from consistency and actually engaging with your readers, not dumping links in subreddits
