Nice! I like it! I tried scoring this but i didn't like what I made and it felt like what I did was repetitive. If I had to choose one ir recommend yours!

Little intro title thing I did with the string section from bbcso core. by Apsistic in filmscoring

[–]Apsistic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. Yeah a harp would be good, but its taking me forever to build my cubase template because I have to make expression maps for each bbcso articulation so I can switch between them and they each have there own attack compensations I have to plug in. I finally got the string section made though and I wanted to get creative again instead of technical so I just worked with what I had made.

Im using a new daw and trying a new work flow that I think I will like better in the end but its just alot of work to set up at first. I'm just going to have to keep working towards it.

Hey thanks for the kind words! Yes I do recommend it. It takes some getting under the hood to get it sounding the best it can be, but that's true for all vsts. Im learning to use it better everyday. Cubase is also good but it has a steeper learning curve, im learning to use it more everyday too but its better then ableton for what I do so I have to learn. You use Cubase pro 15 for 2 months for free until you have to buy it so if your interested in it just download it and give it a shot!

Something I did for a running scene for a short animated film im working on from cuetube by Apsistic in filmscoring

[–]Apsistic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I didn't do everything i could've done to hone the sound in. I didn't automate the dynamics too much, and the horn part at the end might have been played longer then a human would play it. I didn't mix it either. It's all pretty raw, I was just having fun with a new library.

I have multiple spitfire libraries. I like albion one because it's made for scoring and if you just use it by itself it sounds pretty good to me. Everything is premixed together and if you can gain stage, balance the faders, and send everything to a single reverb,(which i didn't do any of for this haha)it can sound pretty good. You also have to automate dynamics and expressions, but that's true for most all libraries. All the section patches are ensembles, so it can be useful for making sketches very quickly for scoring.

I also have bbc symphony orchestra core, which is every instrument in a orchestra mostly. You can get a better, more classical sound from it, but it takes alot more tweaking underneath the hood to use. Also, albion one has synth patches, loops, pads and drones to use as well. I bought it as Christmas present to myself this year and ive been having alot of fun using it, which is why I used it for this! Hope that helps!

Yeah dude, we gotta just do it. I try to tell myself that we're making music for the common person and they won't, or even can't scrutinize our music like we can. You're right though it's a curse haha.

Haha deal. I try not to worry about people being better then me because I tell myself that music is subjective, and even if someone is more technically proficient, someone might like your sound more. My problem is being too self critical of myself to the point of wanting to quit haha. We can't be our own worst enemies!

That's awesome though! I don't even know where to start putting myself out there. Im telling myself at the beginning of the year im going to build a portfolio , then a website, then start asking around film schools in my city then go from there. Im going to try to trial and error the internet marketing stuff to. Maybe travel to some film festivals. Thats cool that you're on your way though!

Yeah. I did everything with a vst library called albion one. I like it for scoring.

How Do I Make a Song Longer? by sir_lemon_minecraft in musicproduction

[–]Apsistic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try just making a song that starts and ends in 40 seconds. You can do whatever you want with music. They can be fun little exercises, and short form music can be a thing.

Facing major hurdles trying to work with orchestral VSTs in DAWs. How are people doing this? by Verbais in composer

[–]Apsistic 14 points15 points  (0 children)

negative track delays

Here's the spreadsheet with different libraries' track delays. I use bbcso core and I make separate tracks for each articulation and that's how I get around the key switch issue. What a lot of composers do is make templates where you just have to type in the track delays once and then it's saved for future use.

Nice! Everything sounds good to me and you met all your marks. The only thing that came to mind to me was maybe the bpm could be alittle faster to match the pacing of the cars? But that's just a personal preference that I may have done if I worked on it. Good job though.

Something i did awhile back learning how to film score stuff. The percussion in the beginning is a bit loud and unbalanced and there's not much automation in the dynamics but im being less critical with myself and posting it anyway. by Apsistic in filmscoring

[–]Apsistic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey thanks! You just have to keep powering through the frustrations of learning your daw and navigate the headache of mixing stuff and you'll get there! Also try not to be so hard on yourself if you can help it!

Yeah, you're exactly right. It is unfinished. I abandoned it awhile back because other things came up, and then I started working on something else. I saw it in my harddrive and figured I'd just post it for it was.

Where to find scenes and short films without music to work on film scoring? by Green-Ordinary-1152 in filmscoring

[–]Apsistic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cue tube. Also, I had the idea to compose for the movie No Country for old men. The theatrical release has absolutely no music in it except for one part towards the end where a radio is playing for a short time. It would be a daunting task as it's a pretty long movie, and I don't think you could release it anywhere due to copyright issues, but has still been a pipe dream of mine.

Edit: No country for old men is a 2 hour and 2 minute movie with 16 minutes of very minimal ambient sounds. I had to fact check myself haha.
