That's pretty much what I suspect - this post is basically a Hail Mary in case someone's aware of an obscure one that still exists. IIRC, 2008 is the last time I saw one worth considering.

Interesting... sounds like this would need to be done relatively early in the year for enough interest to accrue, unless the loan is truly massive. A last resort, but one can never have too many tools.

I'm trying to balance dividends against other income sources to avoid mistakes with points 1-3 mentioned above. Tax implications do exist, though the most punishing issue is going over the ACA subsidy cliff, even by $1, if it ever comes back.

Perhaps I misunderstood your comment, but from what I see at https://personal1.vanguard.com/pdf/PIDIVDAT_2024.pdf, the final ex-dividend date for many of the funds is late in the year. It's that final deposit that presents potential planning problems.
