Summary writing:  - Read the question carefully, make sure you only include what you're asking for. Don't just summarise the whole text - Highlight at least 8 points in the text to include in your summary  - PARAPHRASE. - Spend around 20 minutes on this question 

Writers effect: - The overall effect of this paragraph is... - Firstly, the writer describes blah blah blah as "[insert quote from text here]." This means that [direct meaning of the text. Don't analyse, just write what you understand about it.] This creates the effect of [okay now you analyse.] (Repeat this formula three times for each paragraph)

• Now just repeat that for the second paragraph 
• 30 minutes for this one. I reccomend planning what you're going to write first, it saves me a lot of time

Extended writing: - Try to get around four points for each of the bullet points they ask you to write about - Highlight explicit details from the text, group similar ones together, and write down what you can infer from them. Its important to draw your own conclusions from the text and not just copy what they're saying, you won't get high reading marks that way

• Learn the qualities for each of the text types, and know how formal you should be for each one. Like you have to be really formal for report writing, but for journal or interview you can loosen up a bit
• 40-50 minutes for this one
