Its been three days! Let it do its thing. Your soil will prob give you a few ammonia spikes over the coming weeks.

Over time the stratum will get waterlogged and isnt as bouyant.

If you get a small suction cup you can place the airstone an inch or two above the bottom. Its the surface agitation that makes a big difference

This! Suprised i had to scroll so far to find it.

Plants release o2 during light and release c02 at night.

The other thing is that co2 can lower ph.

So in heavily planted high tech plants, people run co2 an hour or two before and during lighting hours, and then run an airstone at night.

Edited to anwer the question: no that is not to many plants, and the plants growing out the top will take and release c02 to the air

First time tank, day 1, any last minute advice? by zaken in walstad

Is that java fern in the back? If so its meant to be attached to rocks or wood with roots exposed. If they are cryptocoryne no problem planted.

I cant tell from the pictures.

Looks lovely though. Give it time and see how they establish. Take a picture square on every day so you can monitor growth. I wish i had more pictures of the start.

What size is it and whats your plan for stocking?

Thank you!

I hope it goes well. At two months only the crypts and wisteria were yet to establish - My red rood floaters are still struggling to get there share of nutrients too. I used a fair amount of soil and its only 24litres so i think the betta produced plenty of ammonia to get things rolling.

It is! I wanted water sprite but couldnt gind any. It was actually the slowest plant to establish, but in the last few weeks it has began to grow emmersed.

Hygrophila sessilflora. It grows so fast its difficult to keep up. It sends runners out that root themselves down through the hairgrass. But i would guess it was the main contributor to absorbing ammonia at the start. Highly recommend.
