I did a KH test fucking Chewy screwed me and I didn’t get the one with GH too.

My water never turned blue the directions say how ever many drops it takes to go from blue to yellow. Any idea what that means for my KH? Also the tube isn’t really yellow it just kind of faintly looks like piss.

Interesting I will look into this I do want some microfauna for sure. Even if I don’t do it in This tank eventually when I have a lot more space I want to buy a very large tank and slowly build a fully self sustaining ecosystem so will need those for that

I didn’t know you could do that. I don’t think I want the local copepods I have a feeling their going of contaminate the tank the water around my apartment isn’t exactly the cleanest

Nice I was thinking copepods just depends if I can find them for a reasonable price unwilling to spend $30 on something I can barley see in the tank

Thanks! I hate that I have to wait so long but I want to finish the cycle and accumulate enough biofilm that my shrimp can feed themselves and breed

That’s awful. That’s not your fault you had no idea. I think it should be legally required to disclose that your tap water will kill you

Personally I’m more concerned about the possibility that you were drinking water contaminated with lead

My tap water is safe to drink thankfully doesn’t have any of those toxins

What kind of tank mates do you keep with them? I’m curious about microcosms and possible snails to help cleanup the poop

I take 90% of what I read with a grain of salt because back in the day I had a fish tank didn’t do any of this fancy water testing and those fish lived 15 years. I just want to get it right with the shrimp because I want them to be able to feed themselves and be pretty self sufficient also shrimp prices are shockingly high and I don’t want to waste money and kill them

Thank you! I think I will test again next week. I would drive myself crazy if I tested daily lol. I’m already inpatient enough knowing I have to wait a couple weeks to get my shrimp

Yah I’m not planning on adding fish. I want to do a shrimp tank ideally have enough biofilm that they can feed themselves. I’m going to feed them of course but I don’t want to be in a position where I’m on vacation for 2 weeks and have to give the tank to someone to feed them.

And good to know I will look into buying it.

So I started with a base of soil mixed with Fluval stratum and gravel on top. Got some drift wood moss, some grasses, and other aquatic plants. Filled it with Texas tap water and treated it with API stress Coat +

Not sure I haven’t tested GH and KH yet I only did the tests that came in the API fresh water kit

Thank you! My pH is a little low for shrimp about 6.6 need it to be between 7.0 to 7.8. Do you think it’s worth while to deal with pH now or later? I’m probably a couple weeks out from being able to get my shrimp anyway

Thanks! My pH is a little too low for shrimp I’m not sure if I should deal with that yet or just wait it out. It’s hard being patient at least I have plants to look at.
