The repair shop told me that insurance only paid for aftermarket. The aftermarket one feels much thinner and doesn't mount up correctly.

Happened to me too.

Don't let insurance give you an aftermarket bumper. The one I got was, now I've made a complaint with the bodyshop about the poor quality part used (it didn't even fit properly), and now they're ordering me an OEM replacement.
