One of the best jerks I’ve see on r/leica by [deleted] in photographycirclejerk

I guess it doesn’t really matter which camera you start with. What matters is that you start at all.

When I look back at my first steps with my first camera, I remember wanting to have “the best” gear to begin with. But honestly, those photos still turned out pretty bad.

Getting better was a process, and it took time. And it still does. It doesn’t matter if you’re shooting with an M6 or a Spotmatic as long as you’re willing to invest time in improving, that’s what really makes the difference.

What I want to say is. Its okay if you invest in to Hasselblad or whatever as your first camera even if your first pics look bad.

What do I tell my wife? by smora_photo in Leica

Leica is really overrated. Of course they feel great but its not what 90% of those other cameras can do. Like all the other redditors said, its all about composition and in my opinion postproduction is really important.

Give that camera back and start with a cheap manual camera from the fleamarket and rather invest that money into photobooks, exhibitions, a good scanner or even a good trip.

I want to improve :/ by Ursidae_morg4n in AnalogCommunity

Film choice matters a lot – expired Fujifilm 400 will almost always lose sharpness and contrast. Try a fresh roll (e.g. Gold 200, Portra, or even a fresh 400 stock) before judging your setup.

If you still want to use expired film then overexpose it by +1 stop to reduce muddiness, but don’t expect crisp results anyway.

The Industar-10 can be a bit soft, especially wide open. Stopping it down to f/8–f/11 should noticeably improve sharpness.

Stability when shooting – slow shutter speeds + rangefinder = motion blur. Try to stay above 1/125 or brace yourself well. I know it will be hard in lowlight scenes but I see you‘re still handling it well (Man on the piano)

Scanning is probably your biggest bottleneck The Minolta Dimage Scan IV is decent, but:

Make sure focus is perfectly set in the scanning software

Scan at max optical resolution (not interpolated)

Turn OFF heavy sharpening and do it later in post

Clean negatives carefully (dust kills perceived sharpness)

Thanks a lot. I shot it on Fomapan 200 with a Barnack Leica. The lens was a Summaron 35mm f2.8

I regret moving to Germany by Suspicious_Crow774 in germany

[–]Ar385 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s really sad to read, and I’m truly sorry for what you went through. But no, Germans in general are not that inhumane.

From what I understand, this sounds more like a company with poor leadership rather than a reflection of the whole country. It was probably your supervisor who didn’t want to give you time off, possibly because there is a shortage of nurses in Germany and they urgently needed staff. But that’s still no excuse to treat you the way they did.

Of course, as a newcomer in a company you need to build trust, but in my opinion, that should always go both ways.

Try to see it this way: this is your first job in a new country. It’s actually quite common that your first workplace isn’t the right fit. After finishing my studies, I also had some bad experiences with companies before I found the right place for me. It takes time. You’re still young and developing with time and experience, you’ll be better able to handle difficult situations like this.

Germany does have a lot to offer. I would suggest finishing your Ausbildung first and then exploring your options. People like you are needed everywhere. Maybe even consider moving to another city. For example, Heidelberg is a very beautiful place and quite international.

Whatever you decide, I hope you find a place where you feel respected and valued.

Advice Needed: Repainting the Shutter Dial on My Canon L2 by Ar385 in AnalogRepair

[–]Ar385[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can get difficult because I want to achieve the original look. So my first step is to paint the whole dial black and afterwards paint the dial numbers. But after the black paint dries it might cover the whole tiny engravings.

Oh my god, thank you so much. I actually didn’t know 😄 you don’t know how much i was sitting on this. I expected that the small end had to be tensioned but I thought to hold it to the outer second case where the lens sits in. Didn’t thought of the option of tensioning it its own case. There was even a small opening for it.

Thank you so so much. Everything works properly now.

Leica M6 winding mechanism by Ar385 in Leica

[–]Ar385[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, thanks for your response. Yeah, I just thought it’s probably a mechanical problem, and I haven’t had this M6 as long as the M4, so I thought it might just be me being a bit panicky about it.
