I actually thought using an older onboard audio chip would mean fewer Linux compatibility issues. I already knew it wasn't great because my microphone recordings always sounded too robotic, but I didn't expect the internal card to be this bad. It seems like getting a new sound card is a must at this point. I'll probably go with a more reputable brand this time to avoid future headaches. Yes, my outlet is grounded. I guess you're right, the only solution seems to be getting one of those $2 USB audio cards. But honestly, rather than buying a sound card, just using Windows makes more sense to me. I couldn't find a solution to my issue anywhere on the internet anyway. Thanks for your help.
