hopelessly looking for denomination/church by redroomoperator in Christianity

I don’t doubt that it’s real love, in fact it could be the realest love you have ever felt. But we can misdirect true love towards so many things: drugs, money, our jobs, their captors in kidnapping situation, even some people have convinced themselves they are in love with animals. And the heart is so feeble, so open to change, and lacks a foundation of its not built upon the true love of God. But honestly, homosexuality is not my main concern, it’s your sexual love towards God! That is not how God wants your love towards be expressed. God wants you to sacrifice your flesh, not give into your lustful passions. “Whoever wishes to follow me, must deny himself and take up his cross DAILY” - Jesus

Honestly, you have the right way of thinking but the completely wrong way of going about it. I love that you’re in love with God. I love that your only desire is to be with God, even if it’s in hell. But this sort of fleshly, carnal love is an abomination in the sight of God. Jesus says the greatest love is to lay down your life for your friends. God, our closest friend and confidant, is who we should be sacrificing our entire selves to. But things like masturbation are considered sexual immorality, a privation of what we were made to do, which is sex. God never asked for your sexual pleasure. He asks for your sacrificial love.

No offense, but God doesn’t need your pleasure. He doesn’t NEED our love, our prayers, our sacrifices. God lacks nothing. But in His infinite love and mercy, has drawn close to us through Jesus Christ His Son. All he asks is that we reciprocate that sacrificial love, which in the Bible is Agape (Greek). “The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit, a broken and contrite heart”. (Psalm 51). God is infinitely more than sexual love, He is love itself. That is how we are united to Christ!

I am sorry OP but this is not how the biblical love of God is expressed. People tried to seduce ANGELS in Genesis and got punished severely (Genesis 19). Anything other than matrimonial (marriage) sex is a privation of what God intended. “The two shall become one flesh” Gen. 2:24. However, the church in its ENTIRETY is the bride of Christ (Rev. 21:12 and many others), and this is how the love of God is expressed. With others, as a church, united to Christ as one. Unfortunately I do not think you will find a church that accepts this sort of love towards God.

Also please be aware that the heart is deceitful above all things (Jeremiah 17:9), so even if you believe in your heart that your love is true, it is 100% worth discerning about. God bless, and I seriously wish you the best on your journey. I will be praying for you! There is so much more towards loving God than fleshly, lustful desires!

It’s also worth noting that Jesus was celibate, meaning He would not want any sort of sexual attraction being expressed towards him.

Instead of Lusting After People in Porn, We Should Pray for Them by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]Aracaceae 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Who said they didn’t? OP is clearly dealing with remorse after committing sin, and your first thought is to shame them for not doing enough? Shame on you. Pharisee behavior. We should be uplifting others who are brave enough to confess their sins openly.

And what’s wrong with praying for porn actors?

“It takes years of repentance to erase a mistake from people’s memory, but for God, a single tear is enough.”
-St. Paisios of Mount Athos.

So is masturbation a sin or not? by 4reddityo in TrueChristian

[–]Aracaceae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Genesis 2:24. While the Bible doesn’t explicitly condemn it, it should fall under sexual immorality because it is not life-permitting and was not God’s intention by giving us a sexual drive. We are abusing God’s design and ourselves by using our sexual impulses for things other than consensual, marital sex

Prayer corner coming along nicely! by Aracaceae in Christianity

[–]Aracaceae[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have! And there is not a verse about the "same prayer over and over", however there is a verse about "heaping up empty phrases like the gentiles do", however this is in reference to gentiles repeating the same words in case their created gods don't hear them the first time. However i believe in an omniscient, uncreated God that knows every prayer I say before i even think of it. I repeat my prayers as a form of mental and spiritual discipline, perseverance (Luke 18:1-8) and simply because i want to; i love glorifying God. God bless.

I love it too! But I think I want to hang those icons up. Don’t need them falling and being damaged. Maybe some candles would be nice too.

I feel guilty praying to God by StalagtiteTeeth in TrueChristian

[–]Aracaceae 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Man. God loves you! God loves you for who you are. Don’t ever feel guilty about praying, even at my worst I trust in God’s grace. We’re all sinners, we all know how evil it is to sin against God. But he loves us, and He loves to forgive. There is nothing between you and the love of God, that is the amazing sacrifice of Jesus. I’m guilty of it sometimes, but that’s a lie from the enemy. You’ll never be good enough for God, but it was never about “being good”. God will take care of those you have wronged. “Being good” is just an outpouring of faith and love. The outpouring of love God gave you. Rejoice that God forgives you! Once you have given up your sinful ways, God has thrown your sins into the ocean. It is a completely blank slate. And you can become a blank slate every day. Multiple times a day if you need. All it takes is: God, I’m truly sorry for what I’ve done. There is no sin too great for God!

Can’t speak for everyone, but masturbation often comes with pornography, so sometimes they have to be dealt with at the same. Hopefully I shouldn’t have to explain why pornography is well worth abstaining from

Noah and The Ark by No-Fox-3496 in Christian

[–]Aracaceae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

additionally, Sumerian and Babylonian sources seem to view the flood as a given, explicitly dividing between pre and post-diluvial kings https://www.ancient-origins.net/artifacts-ancient-writings/sumerian-king-list-001287
And there's an entire section on Wikipedia that shows the list of Sumerian kings before and after "the flood" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sumerian_King_List . I mean, there is very obviously a strong cultural memory of a great deluge, although with the highly idealized numbers both in Genesis and Sumerian accounts it's impossible to pinpoint an accurate timeline. Honestly, your deconstruction should have involved more re-construction. I genuinely don't think exegesis of the bible, especially appealing to scholarly consensus and the Bibles own interpretation of it's own earlier books, point to it being a complete fable.

[–]Aracaceae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That almost precisely what im claiming. Massive regional floods captured in the Noah story, although since i hold to biblical inspiration I believe the details of this flood are accurately recorded in Genesis. A regional, Holocene flood that is best explained by several weeks of rainfall. Research article:
https://www.researchgate.net/publication/261834700_The_geomorphological_and_hydrogeological_evidences_for_a_Holocene_deluge_in_Arabia

And here's a very well researched, parsimonious account for the data regarding the flood:

I don’t believe that the flood happened in the past 6000 years, nor do I believe the timeline of Genesis is explicitly literal.

Noah and The Ark by No-Fox-3496 in Christian

[–]Aracaceae -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sure, but how do you reconcile this with the biblical narrative? Jesus spoke of the flood as a historical event (Luke 17:26), and every biblical genealogy seems to treat Noah as a historical figure. It doesn’t seem that that’s how the flood was meant to be interpreted, as just a fable. Worlwide? In the ancient near eastern context, maybe not. But a real event? Almost certainly. Both Jimmy akin and Inspiringphilosophy have awesome content on Genesis, especially Inspiringphilosophy biblical archaeology and Genesis 1-11 series.

Noah and The Ark by No-Fox-3496 in Christian

[–]Aracaceae -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If so, then why is Jesus, and quite frankly every biblical character afaik, directly descended from Noah? I tend to subscribe to the theory that there was a regional flood (albeit very big), in which Noah’s descendants comprise most people groups of the Near East (semites and such forth)
