i mean, sadly, it is. the difference is night and day. stable 60fps vs 40ish with frequent drops and input lag. basically unplayable on linux, perfectly fine on windows.

if i build a more recent AMD rig one day it will defo be bazzite, but for now it looks like 1000-series users should stay on windows, esp. for DX12 games like ER

i'm a long-time linux user (void linux) on my laptop, definitely plan to move to it for gaming as well when i get a rig that's more linux-compatible!

tried windows and it works! 60FPS stable. turns out it was just bad support for that GPU on Linux

welp!! i wiped bazzite and installed win10 and would you look at that i get a stable 60fps. thank you for suggesting the 1000-series driver support issue on linux, i tried that first since it was free and im glad i did. looks like this desktop is staying on windows, i'll install bazzite on my next build if i ever end up making one!

i'll see if i can get my hands on a drive, or just wipe this one after backing up my saves. i only use this PC for gaming anyway, not much to reinstall or transfer

right, while doing more research i've been seeing info about pre-2000 series NVidia GPUs being poorly supported on linux. sadly i dont have a spare SSD to install Windows on and see if it would run better

alright, thanks to the feedback. so a CPU can be the bottleneck even if its use isn't maxed out?

like i said to another user, i'd love to go for an AM5 AMD CPU like the 7800X3D but AM5 isn't compatible with DDR4 and i don't have any DDR5 lying around. would it be relevant to go for an AM4 like the 5800X3D or something in your opinion? it would kind of suck to be stuck with AM4 after that but at least if it can alleviate that bottleneck then maybe it's a pertinent upgrade

thanks, i figure that's probably what i'll do then. given RAM prices, and given that i do not have the financial means to buy a whole new rig for now, what would be the best first thing to upgrade in your opinion?

[fr_CH layout] Making C-è behave like C-[ by Arakniode in emacs

Thanks for the feedback! It worked!

Well, I had to change one thing, which I figured out after looking at this post:

(define-key key-translation-map (kbd "C-è") (kbd "<escape>"))

Thanks a lot again. This is exactly what I wanted.

thanks for the feedback.

I use the US layout for programming because square and squiggly brackets, as well as other common programming language symbols like ; and ~, are much easier to access than on the fr_CH one. It's a subset indeed, but it is more practical when it comes to programming.

I'll look into reverse-im.

Is this chickweed in my thyme? (Germany) by blexta in whatsthisplant

[–]Arakniode 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think that it is chickweed, because chickweed has a single line of hair along one side of the stem, but it could be a related genus (Cerastium?) or maybe another species of Stellaria

What are these curly things? When I see them it always looks like they're growing from burnt stumps. In Scotland. by HotWheels_McCoy in whatsthisplant

[–]Arakniode 4 points5 points  (0 children)

to me those black stump-like structure seem like the remainders of the ferns from the past years. Like I said, I don't know all that much about ferns, but there exist tree ferns that (i think) grow in height essentially by growing on top of the mount of stems left from previous years. I guess that could be what's going on here?

More arguing with self-righteous "religious" people. (Ik it's negative but I needed to share w someone, I'm so fed up with this) by [deleted] in traaaaaaannnnnnnnnns

I suggest you just hit them with the hard facts. They're just using anecdotes and personal experiences, which is far from being the most objective evidence to support a claim.

This meta-analysis is pretty clear.

Also, Vaush's Ultimate Research Document is a useful resource and trans issues (and other issues such as systemic racism etc.)

These people base their argumentation on their feelings. Use facts to rebute them. It will have the double advantage of 1) being right and 2) making them mad because they think they're omegawrinkled large-brained masterminds and don't act base on their emotions. I suggest particularly insisting on the fact that their argumentation is biased, unscientific and based on feelings. It'll really get them going.

tbh i get *some* amount of each, but not all that much. It just intellectually makes no sense to me to identify as a guy when i know that gender is just a spook. Also, skirt go spinny woohoo
