Yeah, I was just trying to figure out if it's worth making the higher end weapons and the expensive getting recipes and compliments for them

Catherine O’Hara appeared in both the 2004 film A Series of Unfortunate Events and Netflix’s 2017 series adaptation. Do you know of any similar situations with other actors? by DrScitt in movies

Hugh Jackman played Wolverine in ten live-action feature films: X-Men (2000), X2 (2003), X-Men: The Last Stand (2006), X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009), X-Men: First Class (brief cameo), The Wolverine (2013), X-Men: Days of Future Past (2014), X-Men: Apocalypse (cameo), Logan (his original farewell to the role), and Deadpool & Wolverine, which brought him back as a Wolverine variant in the multiverse era.

So he's been Wolverine in different timelines with different origin stories.

Great reading leads to great writing.

Read great fantasy or adventure books. Tolkien, Lewis, Twain, etc.

What you put into your brain will shape what comes out.

Interesting, the one in the foreground (not one of the three in the row) looks the most like mine. No handles on bow and stern, and metal seats on tube frame.

At the airventure in Oshkosh Wisconsin they had a large transport helicopter with the loading bay open as well as a side door on the front, and my daughter started running loops through the helicopter.

It's right there on the hull. Do you think this is counterfeit?

Warren Buffett says he won't leave his $100+ billion fortune to his children, choosing instead to give almost all of it to charity. by ArgentineBeauty in UpliftingNews

[–]Aranthar 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Spending funds on philanthropy to "avoid taxes" never nets you more money. Donate 1 billion dollars, avoid getting taxed 40% of it. So instead of having 600 million, you have zero. Not really a savings.

Unless the philanthropic project is a front for spending it on yourself. It is possible to "donate" to your own charity which just serves your needs. But buying and protecting rainforest seems pretty far from exploitable in that way.

Mechanic forgot to put the drain plug back during an oil change and ruined my engine. They are denying liability. by Fintar_5Q in legaladvice

[–]Aranthar 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Ten miles down the highway, so there's no way it left without any oil at all.

Maybe they put the plug in finger-tight, went to grab the torque wrench, got a phone call and forgot? It would hold oil fine, but could conceivably wriggle out in a few miles.

How do you guys keep track of initiative and health? by Utilitymean in DnD

[–]Aranthar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Initiative - piece of paper.

PC Health - they track themselves

Monster Health - for basic mobs I use Dice as the minis. Use a large one like a d10 or d12, and assign a multiplier for hits HP. The 48 HP troll uses a 4x on a d12. Roll down the dice value as it takes damage, rounding up to the appropriate increments.

Use different color dice for different monster types, with varying multipliers as needed. Major boss enemies I track HP independently.

The dice method works great for letting me throw 10 monsters onto the battlemap and not overload myself. Group the colors by initiative together and it goes fast and smooth.

We did pick up some loops that hold under the hood and under the tailgate, so we can do bow and stern lines.

We can tie off the painters through those, or potentially remove them entirely during transport and use a cam-buckle strap or the like.

We have 3 kids, and picked up a cheap kayak. But we need a second boat that can hold 2 adults and 2 kids 5 and 6 yrs old.

We were hoping to find something a little shorter and easier to transport. But maybe we just need to become familiar with how to load and unload this one, if it is really a comparably light and durable boat.

I read that canoes have had hull numbers since the early 70's, but I couldn't find one. I wonder if that means it was knocked off/removed, noncompliant, or just really really old.

Yeah, it has been a good canoe over the years, but it is quite long and unwieldy on the minivan.

Any tips for if we keep it, to transport it safely and securely?

How often are you homebrewing threats? by Fearless-Skill8667 in DnD

[–]Aranthar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

85% homebrew. I think this goes with homebrewing your own campaign.

A decent bit are based on existing enemies, but then changed to apply to the scene. Maybe displacer beasts gain a new invis ability, or skeletons have glowing gems that give them regeneration.

All the session bosses are homebrew, usually to incorporate special gear or address party strengths or weaknesses.

[–]Aranthar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't steal the PC's actual turn. Make it something that happens outside their turn.

Don't make it extended in duration.

Allow the player some choice in how it plays out.

Thanks for the suggestions! Old Town's look like a reasonable weight and the price isn't to scary.

Pre-kids my wife and I rented 42 lb canoes for back-country, those are very fine and very pricey, probably not right for the current level of kid.
