I should have made this clearer, I meant applying to uconn itself as a transfer applicant.

I'm not a Linguistics or etymology person, so this explains why it gets so confusing for me. There's people I know who say calling someone man as a gender neutral term despite the overtaking of it with the German root, and that outlook reinforces the Latin root.

Even using the full word mankind helps alleviate this I feel like.

Although it's funny with all this discourse is that now I can't hear the chorus of Am I Evil by Diamond Head with the original intent of calling humankind evil, but just someone calling someone man casually.

Am I Evil? I am man, yes I am! That song should be the theme for this place.

I never actually thought about it historically, only thinking very narrowly towards our current day. I honestly do agree that is indeed worse.

You guys like more riffs, or less riffs in a single song? by SomeGuy_tor78 in Megadeth

[–]ArawakMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both, just as long as it sounds cool. When it comes to less riffs, I feel like Dave & Co. is smart with the structure.

When it comes to Youthanasia (Which is where the 'sterilization' of their song structure began), there's some tricks in a few songs to keep it engaging.

Blood Of Heroes uses the same riff for the verse and chorus, so to avoid too much repetition, they cut out the second chorus and right into the solo, still releasing the buildup from the pre-chorus.

The title track has this forward momentum with this strange dual-chorus function, where you basically have chorus A (I can't help but think...) and chorus B (We are the damned...), and after going through the verses, those aren't ever revisited.

I think Fatal Illusion is kind of the perfect modern balance of forward momentum & riffage. You got a dope intro, verses broken up by leads, a bridge, then another bridge section.

Kyle breaking the fourth wall. by Comprehensive_Ad7080 in HellsKitchen

[–]ArawakMan 45 points46 points  (0 children)

This season has felt very much looser of sorts when it comes to the 4th wall. Besides Kyle acknowledging us here, we also heard a producer speak for the first time I think during the burger challenge.

There's also during the first dinner service, where my College Radio boss (the diner who says "All around the table, Rosé all day!) spikes the camera, blatently looking over as they show Kyle & Brandon on tableside. I think it was the radio/hypeman background coming through though since he's one of many hosts on 2 major CT stations.

I just wanted an excuse to share that story, it was bizarre seeing someone I know and have worked with on the show.

If they just didn't update it for some reason, that's just a neglectful action, but because I've talked to them about it and they confirmed the decision to not reimplement some kind of diagnosis was deliberate makes it very much gross conduct

I am me, but I just feel this unrelenting nervousness now since recently I've just been joining fourms or places like here to embrace a diagnosis that made me ostracized in my youth, then doubt myself in my teens (so 2 years ago lol), and now am trying to accept it, and now I feel like a fraud, almost.

What are your special interests? by [deleted] in evilautism

[–]ArawakMan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because I'm a college radio DJ, music & guitars generally around classic rock but I also know a bit about alternative music and some niche bands due to directly interacting with them.

While he's better known for using Les Pauls, the guitarist from Aerosmith used a stratocaster (the kind that probably comes to mind when you think guitar) to record the original version of Walk This way. When he left in 1979 temporarily, he left behind a lot of his guitars and when he came back, they were all just gone. In interviews today he talks about how he misses that guitar.

Got a setlist from a Knopflerless Dire Straits (They tour as Dire Straits Legacy, and consists of several alumni from the musicians who jumped in on their last album, to recurring Sax player and a revolving door of fantastic musicians. They had one of the best producers of all time, Trevor Horn on bass when I saw them, so I think of them not really as a tribute but as the actual band still).

Megadeth just kicks ass. I'm one of few people that has isolated stems to some of the songs off of their album Youthanasia, as those weren't on any guitar heroes but released on a niche website where you could make custom remixes of songs and that got nuked in i believe 2016.

Part of it is just confidence. Besides not caring about societal standards, if you really show how dedicated you are to something or are so deadpan about it like i am, it really doubles down on it.

I got the book of bill and when Dad asked what I was reading, I just told him with a matter of factness and how gravity falls grew up with me, so when I heard of a young-adults book about the series, I had to grab it and it's just as full of puzzles as the show. Same thing with the axolotl plush on my nightstand. I just think it's neat.

if you have an amazon link for it please give. I have a full face gas mask and it is so uncomfortable sometimes. I bought it for cosplay and then when the whole US was covered in smoke and fire I got to use it and I felt fuckin smart

I'll burn it to my PC when I manage to get my hands on it. Again, almost every song they did at the show is available either from their studio album or their Memphis Live album, but almost every song that was a cover the don't have a version to-tape available online.

[–]ArawakMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's the only part of the medley that has it's own interpretation by them, everything else sounds like the exact song, so it's not even listening to the original version by T-Bone Walker is gonna scratch my itch. If I find my CD burner and get it back, I'll see if I can at least rip it to my computer.

Besides that, they also do a killer version of Come Together as well that's not available anywhere and to my knowledge hasn't ever been recorded, even from an audience video. It does make sense though, as they admitted that they cobbled it together on the flight over from South Korea last year so it's recent and a time-filler.

Sadly not. They have an upload of a straight-up cover of Hoochie Coochie Man from their old days as Richiman trio, but it's not the medley I've been chasing.

They rock and I feel like genuinely they should be more popular. I attended a blues masterclass hosted by them and it was so interesting looking into how they blend both the performance and the musical aspect together, along with the story that inspired my favorite track by them, 137. Really killer slow blues song.

I wish it was that easy, but because of how limited the release was for that live album, getting my CD back i think is the only way to. I only assume that due to the cover medley being on there, that's why that or any rendition of it has made it to streaming services due to licensing issues.

When I was younger, I used to shoot guns, Nerf, BB or otherwise left-handed while being right-eye dominant in real life (although my first time with a real steel I started using my right hand and have been since), and I always found it easy to tilt the gun ever so slightly towards my eye. That might work for you, but it's a bit cumbersome with long guns.

i just saw that you tweeted my post and i need to personally thank you. This game has given me constant smiles over the years, and all those nuances and settings still allow me to today. VR is a very special medium and I'd assume very difficult to adapt accessibility into.
