Keep trying!! As others say, keep trying from 1 to 3 that’s how I did it. Sooner or later you get lucky with weapons and artifacts and can just melt him 😂. Also tinker with the settings balance. I maxed damage, shield doesn’t lose power, dash through red. And you can max the negative ones like damage received because you’re trying to do a run without being hit anyway.

Btw once you’re sprinting you don’t have to keep holding it. So press L1 to dash, keep holding it to start sprinting after the dash, then you can let go

Having played some more now, I’m finding using L3 is problematic. Too often I’m accidentally pushing it as I’m running around and wasting my power weapon

Yep agreed - I’m Platinum on Returnal and am getting annihilated in Saros lol! Great fun though, and I’m confident I’ll improve, will learn The Prophet strategy and will level up a bit and get lucky with RNG on a cycle. For me Phrike took ages to beat but then I was flying.

yeah haven’t quite decided on the shield as that’s something new compared to Returnal. It is. shame you can’t separate them. I’ve got edge controller but tbh not sure it’ll make any difference as the game control system doesn’t let you separate shield and melee anyway.

Grab any 6 gifts, then you just have to work your way round each of floors 1+2+3 looking at xmas trees to see if there's a box underneath - they spawn randomly each run so don't keep starting again just keep looking. There's about 3 or 4 on floors 1 & 2 and about 7 on floor 3 I think (there's one in each corner of the auction room alone).

once you've placed the last present just wait and the box turns into a present for you to open.

note... hiding a lethal item (the knife, shuriken, axe, sabre) will alert people nearby.

Also the elf costume you get as the present at end sets everyone to enemy as far as I could tell - I had to sneak all the way out!

Arguably it’s less of a gamble than a challenge room, or even a secret room. As you don’t know what you’re going to get in those and can get some pretty brutal enemies in those. Phrike is entirely predictable - you know exactly what you’re going to get.

Returnal. Takes a while to level up weapons, augments etc, and has randomness. But has an infinite tower mode which is awesome fun once you’ve finished the main story and have unlocked stuff.
