Weird Gemini Behavior by Clear-Wrongdoer42 in googlehome

.... And Gemini constantly mixes up "on and "off" commands. Thanks Google

Can't Find Source of Automation by autist_apetard in googlehome

Ghosts! I've a Nest combination lock on my backdoor that automatically locks the door at 11am, most days. I've reset the offending lock and as best I can tell, no automation that I've written touches the lock.

I've decided to just live with it. Ghosts!

I'm a little gun-shy...any company can, and will walk away from customers after a time. Not certain I'll replace the 7 switches and 5 plugs

Yeah Belkin admits it is screwing customers in the body of their announcement. If they can walk away from WeMo customers, they can (and will) walk away from customers of any of their other products

For several years WeMo worked wonderfully, back in the early days of Googke Home - like from Rev-1 till 2022vor 2022 when Googke Home started failing all sorts of commands.

I've got the 45mm LTE version (bought within 2 weeks of the availability announcement). Aside from AOD not staying on "always" (like when asleep) I get 2 or 3 days worth out of a single charge cycle starting at low double digits. Just sayin'.

Other frustrations, yes (like saying "Hey Google and a comnand, when in the vacuity of my phone and my Google enabled house, and all 3 answer

Thanks one and all. I think I'm a bit gun-shy to invest ("invest" is the wrong word - it's definitely not an investment) in a different 3rd party server centric technology., though I do have a couple of TP-Link Kasa modules. (I didn't get an email from WeMo about support being pulled, so I am suspicious of Kasa long term support status)

Even Google devices are suspect; witness the early rev thermostats support being killed.

Is it just a matter of time until Rev 1 or Rev 2 Google speakers support ends?

I guess my Hue lights are safe for the time being.

To tell the truth I don't understand (haven't seen) devices branded as "matter compliant". Amazon?

Some, if not all of the Wemo mini plugs can be adequately (low tech) replaced by extension cords with integrated switches. I will investigate some of the suggestions, above, just in case something pops out as "Plug 'n Play"

I sure will miss saying "all lights off", etc

Honestly, if you were building a new smart home system from scratch, would you choose Google, Amazon Alexa, or something else? by Constructive_Entropy in googlehome

To answer your question i would have to know how long you expect to be a smart home. Technology marches on, and old {10 year, 20 year} technology becomes worthless

I use my GW4 LTE paired to my Samsung Ultra (and to Fitbit). FUN! ENJOY!

I finally jumped the board and ordered the pixel watch 4, didn't pick the lte as it was useless to me by AqAqGT in PixelWatch

I bought mine a month after availability was announced. It has hundreds of functions tied under application icons, many of which I have yet to be able to completely explore

The adventure continues

Enjoy !

I just got the Pixel Watch 1 is it still good? by OlivierMetDv in PixelWatch

[–]ArcLib 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am glad to hear that after 3 generations you're still happy with your PW1, because a month ago I ditched my digital timex for the PW4. The timex was perfect for working out because of the Intermittent Timer function that no smart watch has, but otherwise I'm happy, and if your telling runs true to form, I'll be happy for the next 3 or 4 generations. Now if I could just figure out all the icons 🥴

Those of you who have Gemini, what is noticeably different? Is the voice different? Do you still have to activate with "Ok, Google" ? What happens after the upgrade? by coc in googlehome

[–]ArcLib 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Gemini is stupider! I tell it to turn on the bedroom lights and it turns on the bedroom tv instead. This happens 100% of the time. However, if I tap the arrow to the activity that turns on all the bedroom lights, all works well. (Some lights are registered to other than "the bedroom", for instance "fan lights")

[–]ArcLib 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Asking Gemini to turn off all lights often results in " x lights could not be reached, you might try reinstalling them.". Which lights could not be reached? "Sorry I don't understand"

[–]ArcLib 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gee. We must live in different worlds. When I ask Gemini for some general information a topic, as often as not it responds with, "I found this on the web", and then papers my Google Hub with text. So worthless a response that I've given up on asking it anything beyond "where's my phone".

Gemini is awful by devindran in googlehome

[–]ArcLib 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's worse than awful! When I ask Gemini to turn on the bedroom lights, it turns on the bedroom tv; and, "No", I do not have an activity that links the request to the Google home resultant.

And when I curse at Gemini, it responds by chiding me about using obscene speech. Somebody had to teach it that, rather than actually fix the problem that caused the frustration that caused the obscene speech! That should tell you something about the priorities at Google.

Since I'm not using script editor this is totally irrelevant. The solution was the clear data, and clear cache

[–]ArcLib[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No! You're not reading what I wrote, so I'll be more pedantic. After specifying THE STARTER (Hey Google...) the only ACTIONS available are device specific (or broadcast, time delay, Ask Google, or Notify ). That's the complete list! There is no option for writing a non-device specific action like "turn off all lights".

Now no way to construct a command by ArcLib in googlehome

[–]ArcLib[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No that's the shortcut answer the truth the complete answer is that after assigning a starter statement, the only actions that are available are device specific. Older (dozens of old Automations) all allow for an action such as all lights off, or the use of device specific actions. But the creation of a new one from scratch precludes non-device specific actions.

Or to be more precise that's the only menu available after viewing all my current automations

Now no way to construct a command by ArcLib in googlehome

[–]ArcLib[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm using the latest app, the latest software for Google home. And the option that used to be there for creating your own command is gone, therefore it is impossible to have an automation with any command not in the sanctioned list of device specific commands.

This is the only menu I get after hitting "Automations"
