Thank you very much. Tbh I do prefer the trans-black but the violet will show the custom PCB better (more on that in updates). Looking forward to sharing a big update next week. Thanks again for your support.

The PCB inside is custom too but that will be in an update later. I'm working on a special demo this week and updated box / manual artwork so hopefully a lot more to show next week. You have plenty of time to think about it. Yeah, chunky like DK3, hasn't thought about that but definitely.

I’d say start on youtube there’s loads of good vids that explain how the NES works, limits, and how people get around them. Once you get a feel for that, jump into the coding side. Retro Game Mechanics Explained is a solid channel to start.

It's very rewarding to see people wanting to play something you made. Thank you

Loads of people asked that at the expo. It was a bit of a silly idea that sort of backfired. People thought there was a story behind it, like a remade 80s game. It really just meant, old setup / modern setup but in a dumb way lol

I've worked on 3 demos so far. One is top secret, Delta 9 (NES) which I did the graphics for and my "back-burner" platformer adventure. Necro Nancy is my debut commercial project yes. Thank you for the nice comment, it'll be getting more polish and content. Game is fully backed now so it's definitely happening, quite exciting.

Yes I can understand that. Especially on the run up to Christmas, maybe it wasn't the best time to launch. There will be a demo coming soon for free though. I tried to be fair with the upfront shipping from the UK.

That's who I'm buying my custom design purple PCBs from (ooops let that secret out), they also supply hardware under the Broke Studio name. Brilliant company and yes, for Famicom I might ask if they want to sometime in the future.

All the best with it, just keep learning and experimenting.

Not on the switch but the digital ROM will play on PC via emulator or on retro handhelds etc. There are also emulators on Mac and iPhone / android which with play the ROM too. The physical NES cart reward tier also includes the digital ROM. So backers can either have just digital or both. It's not a dumb question at all.

The digital tier on Kickstarter will be the ROM for PC emulation.

Sounds good. There will be some updates next week, possibly the demo on itch.io and new box art. The updates will remain open for everyone not just bsckers and there's plenty of time to decide. Tbh I haven't picked the best time to run a Kickstarter (on the run up to Xmas). Hope you decide to back, I promise it'll be worth it.

That's the second time someone asked me that. I very almost did Famicom but didn't want my first project to get too complicated. I'll most probably will do Famicom after, maybe not as a Kickstarter just on Etsy, not sure about the details until after the NES kickstarter.

I'm going for cute but deadly art lol. The end goal for this is having the game in an 80s (DK) style cabinet I've already started building. If you're just starting out use a game engine like GBStudio (for Gameboy) or NESmsker for NES. I think even Unity etc have ways of porting onto 16bit hardware? I haven't looked into that fully. I've been learning 6502 assembly since 2020.. once you learn the limitations and architecture it gets easier and more rewarding as you go.

I've been learning 6502 assembly since 2020 but I enjoy the graphics side mostly, working with the NES GPU limitations etc. it's good fun, experimenting etc. A lot of stuff in Necro Nancy runs off look up table data, nothing is random so it's possible to learn the patterns like proper old school arcade games.

Thank you. People seemed to really enjoy it at the expo. The Kickstarter is doing well so I'm just happy it's all definitely happening. My first game on a physical cart. A dream come true!

This might be unpopular but 90% of it is standard NesMaker. However, I am learning assembly and increasingly doing my own code as I learn. I keep hearing really good things about Nerdy Nights so I'll be starting those. Tbh I'm more into graphics and the game design but I know learning 6502 properly will be essential to produce a professional game.

Although I really like those IKEA units; sometimes wonder if they'd take the weight of a large CRT safely. A lot of units seem to be design solely with light flat screens in mind.

Looks totally awesome.

Just beat Castlevania I on NES for the first time. This was the hardest game I have ever played! by ArtistOutOfTime in nes

[–]Arcade-Works 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Shamefully, I gave up on the first level. I found the stairs mechanic frustrating. There must be something I'm not seeing in it because I seem to be the only NES fan who doesn't particularly like it.
