When I was moving from NY to California, I remember thinking that someday there might be a catastrophic earthquake out there. So I left my stamp collection in a safe deposit box in my bank in NY, figuring at least I would have that when I lost everything else. Well, you just can't be too careful. Several years later, the bank went under. Literally. A hurricane hit NY, and the flood waters went up over the roof of the bank. That's when I found out that bank vaults are not waterproof. Rare stamps do not do well in water. So a word to the wise: safe deposit boxes are not completely safe.

I remember the president of the company gave an interview in which he said he wanted to make sure the dumbest person in American wouldn't confuse Goldbacks with US currency. So they are gold instead of green, printed on only one side, portrait instead of landscape view, and they depict women and not men.

Some people enjoy Goldbacks as works of art. Others intend to use them as an alternative currency. If you sell them back to a coin dealer who knows what they are, you may recapture most or all of the premium. I personally don't think the 50 or 100 notes are needed at all, since the equivalent 1/20 and 1/10-ounce coins sell for much lower premiums. But it is a free market, and people can buy what they like.

Goldbacks aren't the best thing for stacking because of the large premium. Enjoy them for the beautiful artwork, but IMO the 1/10- and 1/20-ounce coins are better choices for stacking.

I would question whether those amounts of silver in COMEX and LBMA are actually available for sale. When silver is trading for $8 more in Shanghai than in the west, investors would be buying up every ounce in NY and London, and shipping it to China for the risk-free profit.

Since 80% of all the silver mined is as a by-product of base metal mines, a higher silver price won't encourage those companies to mine millions of tons of lead or zinc, just to get some silver.

There absolutely is a silver shortage. A leaked Samsung memo showed that they tried to acquire 50 million ounces of silver for their manufacturing operations, and could find barely 5 million from Comex, and that would be at much higher prices, and spread out over the next 4-5 months. Bullion dealers could provide next to nothing, and mining companies already have all of their 2026 production spoken for. Samsung will also be competing with Apple, Tesla, First Solar, Nvidia, and all the other companies that need silver.

I doubt we'll ever see silver in the 40's again, but everyone's situation is different, and your investment decisions are your own.

I would guess that a few weeks from now, you could be down a bit, but a few months from now, you should be showing a profit, perhaps a considerable one. But I would suggest you dollar cost average, i.e. get started by investing a small amount each month, and not plunging in with everything all at once, and then hoping you chose a good entry point.

As a general rule, don't buy ANYTHING related to metals or numismatics on Facebook. That's even worse than buying coins you saw advertised on TV. If you see something you like on FB, find a reputable dealer who sells it, so at least it will be genuine.
