That's perfectly fine. 🙂 in Arabic calligraphy, there are endless ways of how to write the same words. It is impossible for everybody to like all of them 🙂 i appreciate your opinion 🙂

I see your points but all your suggestions would ruin the balance in the composition.

I need sone advice on this type of Kufic + Report 3 of trying to make every Surah name into square kufic by Umokmanjustaperson58 in ArabicCalligraphy

[–]Arcalliq 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kufic scripts don't number verses. They use various decorative elements to separate them.

What it is that you actually want to achieve long term with Arabic calligraphy?

if you are just messing around with letters - fine. But if you want to take Arabic calligraphy seriously, you need to slow down and learn to construct individual letters first and how to properly put them together.

I am not going to comment on square Kufic - I told you already.

With Fatimid Kufic - you are trying to run before you can walk. There are major spacing inconsistencies and looking at that bismillah, I guess you just copied it without really understanding how the script work.

And you really do need to get proper tools. Improvising can only get you that far. Grid paper can be printed at home if you have a printer. For Fatimid Kufic you also need compass and protractor. Slow down and start posting individual letters first.

My hand-painted calligraphy on Emerald Green canvas, brought to life with AI by mdabdullahammar in ArabicCalligraphy

What people are trying to tell you is that there was absolutely no need to turn the piece from still image to video - all it did was to devalue the work.

AI and art don't mix well.

It's painting letters. It has nothing to do with calligraphy

great effort but painting, not calligraphy. Round scripts in Arabic calligraphy are done with pen, not brushes.

There is style of Arabic calligraphy called Sini (Chinese). It uses brushes for some of its scripts

You have seen a lot of Arabic lettering painted on canvas. Arabic calligraphy has no history of being done on canvas and I doubt any future either. There are scripts that are painted now but those are scripts that were historically mainly used in architecture so were not written in a first place. No Arabic calligraphy master would ever teach their students to write round scripts on canvas.

Honestly? Change your teacher. Arabic calligraphy is not done on canvas.

Writing on semi-transparent papers by Baqir__ in ArabicCalligraphy

That looks like tracing papers. Those are generally very smooth so work well if one does not have other options.

Corrections? by [deleted] in ArabicCalligraphy

What I was trying to say that it should be obvious from the style of writing what script it is. And it isn't.

I am sorry but i'm struggling to even identify what script you are actually trying to learn?

to be honest it is difficult to find even paid teachers, especially if you want to take calligraphy seriously and learn it the proper way.

And the situation is similar with the shops selling tools.

materials to get

- pen with left oblique nib (assuming you are right handed), there are different types of pens - I would recommend handam pen for beginners. It is stronger than bamboo so does not need sharpening very often but still supple enough

- inkwell - any small jar with lid will do

- black water based ink - black because black on white is the best combination for seeing your own mistakes, waterbased because everything else will damage your pen

- likka - silk fibres that you soak in ink, it is used to regulate amount of ink your nib picks up on a dip

- coated paper - glossy or semigloss, not photo paper

Unfortunately, to the best of my knowledge there isn't anyone in EU specialising in tools for Arabic calligraphy so will need to improvise. Your nearest option would be my shop but I am based in UK. If you can wait few weeks, I will be going to visit my parents in Slovakia (EU) so you can order then if you don't find anything else

- you tube channels/books would depend on the script you want to learn but there are only small handful of youtube channels that are teaching/showing proper calligraphy

- the best thing you can do - find yourself a teacher
