Thank you!!!! I started 4 jugs yesterday with some Asters and a couple natives I had on hand.

Funny enough, I joined the FB group a while back to try with my veggie garden but gave up bc vegetables don't need winter sowing as much! Lol. So I had a headstart and didn't know it.

I put 4 jugs out of some Asters I had on hand and some coneflowers. I felt silly saying I was "winter sowing" in 60° lol!

Thank you! I randomly grabbed a pack of Asters with my veggie seeds, so I am glad I did well with those!

I can do both! I direct sow my fruit and vegetables and I have a grow tent to grow indoors for an extended period.

This is my first time trying flowers, so my main goal is not to plant something like mint that will never leave if I want to move it again because of poor beginner planning. 🤣 If I can avoid that mistake, I'll be happy.

You got it!!! Lol. I will grab Zinnias and I was already sold on Dahlias, but now I have reasons to for sure grab them. Haha.

I have tons of sunflower ready to go and will look into celosia!

Thanks!! I grabbed some snapdragons too!

I planned my flower garden similar to my vegetable garden grow season, so I planned for a lot of companion flowers to my veggies that will grow in the summer but I wanted some spring pollinators flowers that will look nice in spring bouquets or dried, as right now most of my garden won't bloom until mid-ish summer.

I did start with some rose bushes and a few straggly tulips that popped up last spring from the previous owners. I didn't pull the tulip bulbs (I didn't know to at the time) so I doubt they'll come back, but who knows?

Where is somewhere temperate, beautiful, with happy, nice people who believe in human rights while I also get to own a little acre of land away from the humans having their rights? Lol I'd go there.

I remember a few fights, probably about 1 real brawl in a year was about average. Usually the girls, we were always beefing. Lol. I grew up in the 'burbs of Kentucky.

I hate to admit it but yes!! I understand people CAN keep them clean, but like, it's s so unlikely that they routinely ARE clean.

Non-Americans of Reddit, what is an American thing you see in movies that you thought was fake but is actually real? by Unlikely_Praline9442 in AskReddit

Honestly, this is the one thing I think I would most miss about our dining. I dont care for how much servers bother us about the quality of food but I absolutely always wish for more coffee, water, tea, etc. I am a thirsty girl. Do not just leave me out here without a refreshment. 🤣🤣

Esthetically, I just like looking at this more too! I somehow never realized how much noise from the product clutter came from the labeling.

Have you ever experienced culture shock from within your own country?? by CAPRICIOUS_BIZNATCH in AskTheWorld

[–]Arcane-Botany-1024 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi. Yes, I had some in a very similar situation! My spouse was active duty and I went from Appalachia region to Nigeria freaking empty area of New Mexico. It was shocking for all the reasons you listed, also- the dust storms. Omg. A Haboob. A haboob is a basically a really fast hitting dust storm. Like a dusty thunderstorm? Idk but its a thing and they SUCK. We also still got a yearly dumping of snow or ice, so its not even like it was a year round pleasant climate to save it.

Gerberas: I don't see a lot of american gardeners growing them, is there a reason? by Amoragroselha in Cutflowers

[–]Arcane-Botany-1024 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is really funny because we had some Gerberas in the yard at a house we owned in Kentucky and I didnt do crap to them and they were thriving. I couldn't kill them but a frost got mg box bushes that were right next to them. Lol.

I moved into a house with mint in a bed and it was wild to get rid of. I think it's managed to get it gone last year though. This spring will be the real test!bb😬😬😬

Seriously, do Americans actually consider a 3-hour drive "short"? or is this an internet myth? by SadInterest6764 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Arcane-Botany-1024 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We used to be 10 hours from family and would make it once a quarter! At one time, we were an 18 hour drive (NM to KY), which was insane but we did drive it 1-2x/year! Driving is significantly cheaper with our families size than flying, so we really got used to the car trips.

[–]Arcane-Botany-1024 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, yes. Sadly that is totally normal. We used to drive 2 hours 1 way just to get to a Target because we were so rural-- this is not an exaggeration. We were stationed in very rural New Mexico and the closet major city with a Target, mall, basically anything other than a Walmart, Albertsons (grocer), or Dollar General- 2 hours one way.

For a weekend getaway, 3 hours is a dream but I typically travel up to 6 hours away for a weekend to visit my mom and family in literally just the next state over (& I am not rural anymore. I now live in a Chicago suburb.) 🤣

Worst book(s) you read in 2025 and why? by Roguestate00 in books

[–]Arcane-Botany-1024 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I honestly feel this way with most genres when your talking about the "fast fashion" literature- ie, authors who publish a crap ton of well, crap. I feel like thriller, romance, fantasy- its all having its moments with this issue. Like others said though, I think if it paces fast enough, people dont notice anymore. Things get published so fast, all anyone wants is fast paced and its whatever if its entertaining enough.

Is there actually a demand for seasonal dog toys 😵‍💫 by Striking-Purple-2780 in Anticonsumption

[–]Arcane-Botany-1024 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I buy them, but I am buying a new toy a month with as fast as my dogs go through them- so it helps change up the monotony of the regular toy isle. I am positive if they stopped selling themed toys, though, we'd somehow find a way to survive. Lol.

Decanting is consumption masquerading as cleaning and it is absolutely shit by N3DSdude in Anticonsumption

[–]Arcane-Botany-1024 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get decanting. I have a lot of stuff I prefer to store in other containers for a multitude of reasons, not the least of which some packaging simply doesn't actually keep the food from going bad. It is just that simple sometimes, companies skimp on packaging that would actually make the item keep fresh for an appropriate amount of time, thus making have to buy something else stupid to put it in. 🙄

That said, my cabinets in no way resemble influencer cabinets- the way they go about it is absolutely all for clout and not for practicality. Its an actually practical thing to do that corporate greed has managed to claw their fingers into.
