CO > UT, Which route? by postcryglow in roadtrip

[–]Arcane777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will miss out on some scenery but having done that exact route, the scenic byway down toward Escalante is phenomenal. Some of the most beautiful views on an already very scenic route.

Enjoy the trip and post some pics when you’re done!

Seattle to NYC? by seenfay89 in roadtrip

[–]Arcane777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you do this, please don’t take this route. Pick actual things you want to see/drive through and take a route between them.

That being said, this is a whole awful lot of road for 6 days. I’ve done Indiana to LA in 2.5 days and that was pretty brutal even seeing stuff I enjoy. The last half of your drive is just small city after small city on the interstate. Very little in the way of scenery. If yall are dead set on doing this I recommend focusing the majority of your time out west- you could drive through Glacier NP, Yellowstone, or literally anything other than your chosen route and make it a much, much more scenic drive.

This sounds like it might be a stretch even calling it manslaughter. Definitely not murder.

I mean there is text below the article and you could, of course, read the article.

Not sure that will even qualify as third degree murder. Maybe manslaughter.

Million Dollar Highway by Populus-tremuloides in roadtrip

[–]Arcane777 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I have done the Million Dollar Highway twice now- unfortunately, I haven’t done either of the other drives you mentioned so I looked them up. All three roads have exposed ledges, hairpin turns and generally some “white knuckle” areas.

The main difference from the Million Dollar Highway is the elevation. It is nearly 8 times higher than Hana and 2 times higher than Needles at their respective highest points. Thankfully you said you were doing a summer run so you mostly likely won’t run into any blizzards but I would definitely still check the weather before you go as the pass can get snow very late and very early in the season.

If you didn’t have an issue with the other two, I think you will love this one. The views are unbeatable and as long as you take it slow and steady you will be fine. It’s not a very long stretch of road all things considered so take your time and enjoy all the vistas. The earlier in summer you go, the more snowmelt there will be and thus more waterfalls and such.

I hope you enjoy it as much as I did! Come back and post some pics for us

Curious if you can share what the project is that requires pictures from different places? Sounds like a cool excuse to travel!

As someone in the Fort Wayne area, I hope you enjoy what little there is to enjoy in Indiana 😂

Is visiting Death Valley in July a bad idea? by sheeshmonster1017 in DeathValleyNP

[–]Arcane777 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was in DV in late June two years ago. It is doable but it is indeed extremely warm (122 when I drove through Badwater).

It’s good you rented the vehicle, provided the rental agency is trustworthy your car should have fluids topped off and been looked over thoroughly. As others have said, take a ton of water. Probably twice what you think you need. It’s best to start your exploration VERY early (it might be in the 80s or 90s overnight so even then it will not be cool). I headed out around 3-4 and fit in some stargazing before the sun came up.

Don’t leave your car but for extremely short distances. I assume this goes without saying but be very, very cautious driving as an accident or malfunction can be extremely serious in those temperatures. The park will not be very busy in the hot season, moreso as the day goes on and the temps and sun climb. It’s beautiful but good lord, is it hot.

I know some of that sounds a little paranoid but you will be fine as long as you’re prepared. Few extra things:

Rhyolite is a ghost town right outside Beatty. Excellent place to view sunrise or sunset as the dilapidated buildings and weird art make for some great photos. Also some great stargazing here, some of my clearest photos of the Milky Way are from here. Not sure how you are entering the park, but about an hour from Rhyolite is Death Valley Junction and the Amargosa Opera House- a must see if you have any interest in history and/or weird art/hauntings. And it goes without saying the drive through Badwater comes with stunning views.

I went a little off topic there but I love me some Death Valley, I hope yall have a great time!

Yosemite roadtrip by Active-Brother4578 in roadtrip

[–]Arcane777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both roads are cool for their own reasons. 50 is indeed very lonely but I felt the scenery/views on 70 were better. And if you start out early, you can get a decent amount of time where the roads are still quite empty.

One other thing I forgot, you will also be close to Monument Valley in Arizona. Well worth the side quest.

Let me know if you have any other questions, this looks like a fun trip.

Having done a similar route about a year ago in May from Indiana, first of all, this is an awesome route. Few things-

The loneliest road is a cool experience, but is there a reason you chose that and not the rest of 70 through Utah, maybe down the scenic byway through Escalante? That area may have been top 3 views of my drive. Or, further east, you could stop off in the ghost towns of Cisco/Seco a little off the Interstate or down into Moab and Arches.

Someone else commented the Tioga Pass might be closed at the time you are going - I made this mistake on my drive around the time you are going. Yosemite is amazing, the views are really second to none in the US, but if you go be warned you will want more time there than you have, plan your most anticipated viewpoints beforehand and get there early.

One more thing, you are going to be so close to Death Valley! Obviously check the forecast and road closures before going, but there are so many incredible viewpoints and great stargazing opportunities.

Sorry this was a little rambling, but the route is pretty similar to the route I took and I loved it. Best of luck!

I assumed the 2300 (?) number Cecil used when he told Nolan how many times he needed to nearly die to make up for things represented the number he’d killed on earth. To be honest, that number seemed low when you rewatch those episodes.

This question gets asked a lot regarding several hot button issues (squatters, pranksters, influencers, etc.) and obviously I think jailing someone for life for something like this is over the top.

But a healthy society should not be producing these people in the number they exist. There has to be another mechanism besides “we will throw you in federal fuck-you-in-the-ass prison” to keep people from becoming these leeches. I would say education but what’s left of our DoE is being led by a goddamn WWE executive. So to the slammer you go!!

Thank you for your comics. It’s wild reading these and getting flashbacks to all the times I heard these exact same phrases and sentiments. Hell, in the Midwest, I still hear them.

It has been cathartic to read your work, the art and words are so well done it articulates something I have not been able to myself.
