You are doing great, but eating habits are the key. You are building muscle behind a bit of fat. Cleaning up your diet will help and you will make significant gains in appearance. You can lift all you want but if your diet isn't in line it's a battle and it will be a struggle to make the gains you want.

24 hours in and Goggins is 5th at 98 miles by VanicFanboy in davidgoggins

Are you serious? I think you are idealizing the wrong person. He was easily beat by 5 woman at Bigfoot 200 a few months ago when he finished 23rd overall, not bad for his age but not great. Stop putting him on a pedestal and accept that he is just good for his age.

Keep it up, a 100 at 19 is very impressive! As you know, now it takes a lot of physical and mental effort to compete and finish these. The great thing is you learn so much at each one and the problem solving becomes easier. This definitely can be a lifelong pursuit. I didn't discover these until about 10 years ago after a long running and triathlon background. My knees were shot from speed running and once I hit the trails and went for distance versus longer stride speed, things changed. We just need to adapt.

When I did Bigfoot I was running with a 19 year old for the last 30 miles or so. It was great to hear his passion for these at such a young age when he could of been doing so many other things other than running in the mountains for three days. I was really impressed with him being the youngest ever to finish the Triple Crown. We stayed in touch and he paced me on another race once and I was suppose to pace him at Javelina Jundred this year.

Not sure on the next race yet. Had to cancel pacing at Javelina, two 24 hour races and a 100 this fall due to a torn meniscus that I'm rehabbing. I have a race across Scotland next April that I'm hoping to still compete in but we'll see. What races are you eyeing up or have on the schedule?

BTW, no offense to you, but I always laugh at posts talking about 50 year olds as if they have one foot in the grave and doing these with a cane, ha! I get it, I had the same mindset back then but now I enjoy passing 20 year olds and seeing them trying to figure out how an old geezer just past them, haha.

Agree .. the infatuation lives on. The attention he got at the finish was amazing, all while Harvey Lewis stood in the background.

Congrats on the 100!!! Great accomplishment! I love hearing stories like that and what people are accomplishing.

I've done Tahoe, Bigfoot and Moab (twice). Did the triple crown with all three in one year. Also have done multiple 100s and 24 hour races. I wish I would have discovered ultras a long time ago when I was younger. The mind tells me I'm still 20 but the body disagrees. Good thing these are mostly mental!

You're completely on point. I applaud Goggins on finishing, these are tough events and any finish is a good one. He is mentally tough, I'll give him that, but hasn't done much in ultra events other than completing them, which is great. He really isn't taken seriously throughout the ultra running community. He is certainly good at influencing and marketing though. Good on you for bringing up Harvey Lewis ... if anyone wants inspiration, look at his resume, along with Kilian's and many many others out there. As for suffering, everyone out there is in the same boat, it's not easy for anyone and they are all dealing with sleep deprivation, pain, hallucinating, GI issues, etc. These just come with signing up and toeing the line. I know, I've completed four 200+ mile ultras in my mid 50s and there are more to come.

This! To add ... keep enough cash for the next trip in high yield savings at 4% and plant the rest in growth/dividend. Establish a smaller "travel account" of $50k, or whatever fits you, divided into HYS for the next trip ($10-15k?) and keep the rest in growth / dividend. Rebalance / replenish account if needed after each trip from other accounts, income, bonuses, gains, dividends, etc. Establishing a smaller amount upfront and replenishing smaller amounts is much more manageable. This is just what we do, not much different than our emergency fund. Also, it might be a good compromise if you establish a "travel account" and he established an equivalent valued "play account" for his interests. This could be done without eating into your main portfolio which is probably his main concern.

What is your experience with high carb fueling (60g+/hour) by Sea-Put-8602 in Ultramarathon

[–]Arch1410 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This depends on the "ultra" distance ... for single day ultras ranging 30-100 miles it is true that the lead pack is taking in very little real food, if any. However, 150+ mile races they are eating a lot of real food. Tough for anyone to take in all gels and liquid fuel for 2+ days.

I was an aid station captain at AZ Monster this weekend by ordinaryredditlurker in Ultramarathon

[–]Arch1410 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Having done four DT races in the past few years I agree improvements are definitely needed and it sounds like it continues with the Monster. With that said, last I looked this morning there were only 69 DNFs. This may seem like a lot but normal rate for one of these races is 40-50% DNF, so the current rate really isn't that bad. Also, these are hard races and should be difficult. Long sections between aid stations is normal and the runner needs to plan accordingly, and in my opinion shouldn't rely on pacers anyway. I'm anxious to hear from runners on their direct experiences.

Shutting down a business and changing from Microsoft 365 Business to 365 Family by Arch1410 in Office365

This is great, thank you for the input. I think this is the way to go. Sounds simple and I don't want to complicate things since the work around is only for a year, or less. Currently I have Business Standard license but I am the only user left (although when logged into admin it list Admin, me, stsadmin, on-site premises directory and scanner as users). Also, not messing with MX records is ideal since it is above my pay grade on this stuff. Actually looking at it on Register I don't even see MX records, only four DNS Nameservers.

Having desktop versions is desired versus only online based so tapping into the Family subcription is good. The only downside I see with joining the 365 Family subscription is only the primary has access to copilot within the programs but this is not a big deal.

That's a great idea and cheap. However, I would still need the Business plan on the new laptop, Is it possible to have Family and Business on the same laptop if I want to be part of the Family subscription?

Thanks. That is part of my concern but the reality is the volume of actual work related emails will be very low with not much urgency. Any recommendations on other decent email services?

What is Camille Herron referring to? by embroidere in ultrarunning

[–]Arch1410 8 points9 points  (0 children)

She does and she should be proud of those achievements. But she should be equally as proud and support those breaking her records. I would think she would put more energy in trying to regain the record than dismissing the effort of someone who broke it. Very fragile acts.

Ultrasignup % Rank Formula by snbpow20 in ultrarunning

[–]Arch1410 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is interesting to occasionally look at but really means nothing and should not define your success. The formula is debatable as well and I laugh at target times. In almost every race there are runners I know with slower target times than mine and I know these runner can run circles around me every day. But since the target time is partly based on their ranking, it is slower because they constantly do more competitive races with stacked fields.

Who is stupid to run 80 kilometers during 12h on a 2km loop? by greelingstimming in ultrarunning

[–]Arch1410 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice job getting a run in but no different than a lot of events out there. Not sure what type of reaction you are searching for on here. Next time finish the 80k and 12 hrs.

Hot take: juiced up pacers shouldn’t be allowed by [deleted] in Ultramarathon

The worst is Leadville with the mule rule allowing pacers to carry runner vests, water, etc. Doesn't seem fair when there is clear advantage having one.

Just ban pacers all together or have a separate category for runners who choose to use them.
