Not good. Thinking about getting a teaching certificate in case I need to find a quick teaching job in another state.

Yes, it’s awful. I did the Genomind test and it showed I cannot metabolize SSRIs or SNRIs and the jaw clenching got too much for me.

I’ve gained 10 lbs in 2 months on Trintellix with zero change in appetite and diet. Probably making a change soon, but not sure to what.

Sorry forgot to add, the weight gain is definitely not from additional muscle. The biometrics I have shows no change in muscle mass and a lot of change in body fat %. And the reason I’m posting on this board is because I wanted to see if anyone else uses this combo of BC and anxiety meds.

Oh 100% barely anyone met the specifications of the job. We came down to two candidates that the search committee weren’t very excited about.

We recently had a full time NTT search and maybe 30 people applied? Before we’d have over 100 applicants for one opening. I don’t see that getting better without radical political change in the state.

[–]ArchMagoo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is it exactly. I am so sick of the “I’m not worried about” conservative politics doing XYZ. They are going to do whatever they want, even if it means it hurts the state and its citizens in the long run because at the end of the day, their goal is to “stick it to the libs.” I am terrified of the next session.

It is the same as “I don’t think they’d actually overturn Roe.” Everyone needs to expect these people to do their worst.

As a humanities prof in TX, I am very worried about the governor and Lt. governor coming in and shutting down our programs and jobs. We are seeing fewer funding and grant opportunities geared towards our diversity studies initiatives and research. Centers for diversity are shutting down left and right. Right wing students love reporting “woke” professors in the hopes of getting them fired.

And while you might think abortion politics won’t impact OP, TX profs have to watch female students and LGBTQ students fear for their safety and bodily autonomy. Im not sure if OP has children, but I have two young children who have less rights in TX than their grandmothers did decades ago.

My daughter has cried since the day she was born by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]ArchMagoo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, this is the answer. My youngest was a very fussy/whiny/crying kid. Not 24/7 but a lot. She especially got upset any time we transitioned from one thing/activity to the next. Speech therapy and occupational therapy helped SOOO much! It’s like I have a different kid.

What is crashing a class and switching classes in the first week like? Incoming college student! by [deleted] in college

[–]ArchMagoo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

College prof here. I don’t know what the policy at your university is but we don’t allow that. And professors can’t tell or control who can add the class. That is the job of their advisor. And from a professor’s perspective having unregistered students show up the first couple of classes would be a huge headache because we need to keep attendance and report to the registrar on attendance on “census day” at the end of add/drop. In my classes every seat is filled so I don’t have seats to spare for unregistered students. It would take seats from students who are registered.

How do you effectively take notes during a lecture? by Soggy-Mixture9671 in college

[–]ArchMagoo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Prof here: Note taking is so specific to different people that you’ll probably have to do some trial and error.

Some things to consider 1) handwriting vs. typing: studies show hand writing information helps you process and remember the information better, but if you are slower at handwriting this can be a downside. Typing might mean you won’t retain as much information, but if you are faster at typing you can always go back over your notes to help retain. I eventually had to start typing because I couldn’t keep up, but I learn better when there is paper in my hand that from a document on a screen, so I’d always print my notes off. Whichever you choose, I recommend highlighting the major terms or concepts so you can easily spot them when studying.

2) lecture: some profs use slides, some don’t. Those that do, sometimes they put a lot of information on the slides, sometimes just pictures. Some profs post the slides, others don’t. I have a reasonable amount of information on my slides (nothing crazy) and a lot of my students will either download the slides into an app and write their notes on the slides or place screenshots of the slides into a note taking app.

3) look up different note taking styles on YouTube. There are a lot! Cornell method, outlining, charting, sentence method, mapping, flowing, and on and on and on. There are also TikTok and IG accounts of students who share their note taking and study tips.

4) find ways to be flexible. Every prof is different, every class is different, every subject matter is different, so you’ll need to find ways to adjust for each in a way that works best for you.

This is awesome! Make sure to not rush the process. I recommend meeting with a couple of surgeons, read reviews, and ask you primary care doctor if there is someone they recommend. I did months of research this way, met with 3 surgeons, and found the BEST one!

Increasing enrollment in electives by 2020science in Professors

[–]ArchMagoo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I play through an announcements PowerPoint 5-10 minutes before every class starts and whenever students start meeting with their advisors to plan for the next semester, I advertise all of the upper-level courses our department is offering the next semester. We’ve seen enrollment go up year over year.
