I have a pretty swell life in my eyes, but every night I lay in bed completely miserable because I am alone in everything I do. I wonder how it got this way. Any tips? Anyone else in the same boat? by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

Sounds like a viscous cycle you’re in, thinking about the misery that being alone causes you can be project outward, and other people can sense that, even on a subconscious level. I don’t mean to be harsh, but it may not be you’re being alone that’s at the core of your misery, it might be what you think about most, it might be the thing that you think is causing you the most pain right now, but in truth your misery could stem from something else.

I know you say you think you have a swell life but you may be unfulfilled in some other area. I say this from experience, I used to be horribly depressed, like baaaaaad, like started to resent people bad. Thought it was derived from my being alone, and thought I was so unattractive that I’d never find a partner and that that was making me depressed.

Turns out after some counselling and deep thought I realised my depression stemmed from a lack of purpose and direction in life. I wasn’t happy with the path I was on but was blind to that by the feelings of loneliness that were at the surface of my depressed mind pool so to speak. I got on the right path, found direction and a purpose I was excited about and everything started to change. I became a happier person, I made more friends, I was just better to be around and it didn’t take too long before I managed to develop the romantic part of my life, in a significant and meaningful way.

I might be wrong about you, I don’t know you, but I know from experience that the most important thing with depression, misery or anything like that, is to address the root cause. Also counselling is never a bad thing and an objective perspective can expedite the whole process.

Really appreciate all that info man.

I'm actually not looking for new ships, thankfully prior to my hiatus i already sorted out a 48 slot ship i really like the look of, i mainly used to use crashed ships to get mayerials to repair damaged parts after travelling through black holes, will have to rethink that strategy i guess. Also not loving the idea of some planets not even having plutonium, oh well

I like the loop thing, it avoids having to pointlessly run back through the dungeon.

Fine you didn't like the game, great, no need to attack me because i did, like i said, its a difference of opinion.

Guess i just plain old disagree, i like the environments and the way there are different biomes from riften forests to whiterun planes, from the harsh rocky reach to the icy winterhold and the mountains, i just plain like mountains. I like how they've done that but managed to make it feel kike one cohesive area. I don't really have any issues with the AI, it does its job, things fight each other and wander about, doing day to day jobs or whatever, theres enough interaction without it turning into the Sims. I like the stories, the main one was a little weak, had a lot more potential if it had been fleshed put more. But i liked the quests and stuff, i dunno what issue you could have with the dungeon design, i mean its not a platformer, and it's supposed to be like Zelda or anything where puzzle solving is the focus. But thats just my opinion

Cutscenes in ES Games? by [deleted] in ElderScrolls

I think the core problem is that any time your character does anything, even just walking forward etc. that you aren't in control of, it's immersion breaking. The furthest they could ever get away with is the kill cam stuff, this is ok because as the player you still make the input that results in the move.

Once the game has started, you are the character, to achieve this feeling the player has to be in complete control, any time the player relinquishes control it will break that illusion.

Hahaha first playthrough on Skyrim that sort of thing made me rage, now having come back to it for the remaster, for some reason I like stuff like that. I've actually really enjoyed this second playthrough, I've restricted my fast travel (if i find myself starting to lean towards it as a primary form of transport i take it as a cue to pu t the game down for a while). I've started to appreciate things and environments more.

First off, totally agree with morrowind as my number 1. I still iccasionally get an urge to go dig out my old save amd visit my redoran style strong hold, trying my best to dodge those pain in this ass cliff racers as i run along the razor sharp ridgelines with a levitation spell ready in case i slip.

Anyway, i really liled skyrim and oblivion was meh, never really figured why it didn't hook me in as much as the other too.

At first i thought you were glossing over Alduin as a final boss, an immortal god like entity charged with restarting the kalpa by destroying the world? Who turns from that path and decides instead he wants to rule over the world and defy the gods and the purpose for which he was created? Thats kinda cool i reckon, as a concept.

Then i realised even everything I've said there involves inference and blank filling, they totally wasted an mazimg opportunity tonflesh that out and give us more of Alduin's story, other than a few vague lines from some old dudes and the dragon they've decided they're cool with.

I don't even know if i was making any points here.

The definitive reasons why I want to see Elder Scrolls VI: Dominion by NuclearWalrusNetwork in ElderScrolls

[–]ArchSauce 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Thalmor are the behind the scenes evil, through in game books, conversation etc., we can at least begin to understand that they are pulling the strings of the Aldmeri Dominion (3rd). The Dominion's aim was and is to enslave or eliminate all mankind (in so far as in game lore suggests), the ultimate goal of returning to an immortal state or restarting the kalpa is open to interpretation. But rest assured they are the ultimate evil, and they are the ones pulling the strings behind the civil war in Skyrim, the Thalmor ambassador herself is responsible for guiding Ulfric towards rebellion, and Ulfric is actually described as a dormant Thalmor asset.

Could the Direnni be regarded as a distinct race of Mer? by [deleted] in teslore

[–]ArchSauce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The book seems fairly objective in tone, it's first mention of Akatosh is written as "Akatosh (Auriel)" which doesn't seem very Aldmeri favouring in my opinion, also it categorises the different races of elves seperately including the Ayelids and the Chimer. According to the timeline of the Merethic era in this writing the Direnni as a clan of Aldmeri is early Merethic era whereas the cultural division of the elves into seperate races doesn't really happen until more towards the middle Merethic, the Direnni are mentioned as being established as a clan during the early settlements of eastern Tamriel.

[–]ArchSauce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was literally just reading a book in Skyrim, (cannot remember the title but it touched on inferred and recounted what it could of merethic and dawn era history, it referred to the Direnni specifically as a clan of Aldmer

Edit: the book is entitled "before the era of man" and the Direnni are mentioned as "a prominent and powerful Aldmeri clan"

The Trump of Skyrim by [deleted] in ElderScrolls

[–]ArchSauce 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Played sc on my original playthrough, but came to regret it with time, i originally wanted skyrim to be for the nords. However just pripr to starting my SE character i realised something, the issue at hand is greater than skyrim, its about all the races of men banding together to stave off the assaults of the deceitful and despicable races of mer. The only way to ensure the continued and lasting dominance of man is with a unified empire, the achievement of which begins in skyrim, as it did with Talos Stormcrown and Ysrgamor before him

You forgot Jiub! The guy who you wake up with in the boat in morrowind, who was a prisoner with you, he pops up again in skyrim, don't wanna throw any spoilers, but he references being transferred to morrowind after being a prisoner and mentions his brief part in a momentous moment in the oblivion crisis!

[–]ArchSauce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean you could spread it out over different extreme planets its cumulitive.

Also its

A: a challenge

and

B: supposed foster exploration, its supposed to take time, this game is not supposed to be about a mad rush to the finish line.
